- Despite being built around the time of William the Conqueror almost a thousand years ago, Cardiff Castle, with its 150-foot-tall clock tower, remains an iconic feature of the Welsh capital.

There is at least 500 castles in Wales so take your pick. I live in carmarthen and there's at least 20 within a 50 mile radius of me

@@christycullen2355 that's great! Thanks for replying. 💛
I used to walk by that castle almost every day when I lived in Cardiff. About 48 years ago.
I love Cymru.
I have Welsh ancestors on my mother's side.

Come to Wales if you like castles.
We have so many it's unreal
80sargeant There are over 30,000 Norman castles or ruins in Ireland. They are all over the place there.
How can you even focus on the castle with all those other structures around and behind it? Especially that giant football dome!
Yeah, it's pretty sad.
Well that's what happens when you have a castle built to defend and control a town, the town eventually grows around the castle as it becomes a huge city.
You want more remote castles, go to Snowdonia, they're smaller but they're isolated on hills guarding valleys.
The most impressive castles in Wales though imho are Caernarfon, Conwy and Beaumaris. They're much more intact with their original features, although ruins, and Beaumaris is considered one of the world's best examples of a perfect concentric castle.
Beautiful doesnt even star to describe this masterpiece
I like the smaller castle, it’s more homely.
Too bad we couldn't see the inside of these castles.
But ... but ... "This Thousand-Year-Old Welsh Castle is a Must-See!"
@Gareth Fairclough LOL, wow ...
@Gareth Fairclough I just quickly looked up Caerphilly Castle and it's amazing! I now have some more reading to do. Thank you. =-)
From one angle, it sort of reminded me of a castle used in Monty Python, but apparently it was only used in Dr Who.
Because it’s actually a front movie set.
@@18Bees Is nothing real in your world?
Blackadder : Have you ever been to Wales Baldrick?
Baldrick : No, but I've often thought I'd like to.
Blackadder : Well don't, it's a ghastly place. Huge gangs of tough sinewy men roam the valleys terrorising people with their close-harmony singing.
😂😂😂 perfect.
And the Welsh would be very happy if people like you stay away.
I wonder what he’d think today as he looked out across the city.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
Wonderful view 👍🏻
Wish I could watch the full series
gorgeous
It's very good
Cardiff castle, caerdydd , meaning castle of the accord , despite what we are taught about this castle, it was built by the British kings , the Roman invaded the country of the esolog meaning a bounding in prosper , but they got no were Hadrian came to caerdydd to put forth a peace treaty with the British kings and he married a Welsh princess , the treaty was to allow Roman traders to trade in Wales, the British kings still ruled in Britain, the British Welsh records, which we are told don't exist, but the reality is they are in abundance, and they tell a very different story,
The air raid shelters werent tunnled intot he walls, when the roman walls were rebuilt in the 19thC they added tunnels and windows to rflect what theromans may have had, however it was copying constantinople and probably wasnt that elaborate.
Give me 20 of your best men, and it will hold!!!!
That looks like a strong fort , even to this day
It was rebuilt but the man they mention, the outside walls are now like the best ancient roman walls. The video says they tunneled into them, but thats not true, it was built that way, he was copying the walls at constantinople, so they have these tunnels with tiny windows, like the later arrow slits.
Love Smithsonian!
👍
What Romans in Wales ?
Yes, you can see places like caerwent where the original town walls still stand.
😮👍
