Saw Emmylou in concert (along w/ John Prine) last night in Huntsville. She put on a great show singing many of her greatest hits. She has to be one of the most centered, unpretentious performers I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. Totally connected w/ the audience and had some pretty funny lines. About her song 'Red Dirt Girl', she introduced it by saying that she had an idyllic childhood, unlike a lot of country singers, so she had to just make up the lyrics about growing up poor.
She seems to be the one who is always at the right place at the right time with the right people. Such small voice but uses it so well is our Emmy Harris.
I have been an Emmylou fan going back to the Gram Parson years. Its amazing that she was such an extraordinary beauty in her 20's, and is still an amazing beauty in her 60's. And her musicianship only improves as the years go by.
Her best version of this is on the "Roses in the Snow" album. When Skaggs comes in singing his part, it's a cold chill raising experience, never forget the first time I heard it.

In the version sung by Ralph and Emmy Lou in the 2002 version, the first refrain says "Lay down your soul, let Jesus in". The second refrain says "Lay down your soul at Jesus' feet. Is there anything that occurs to you about this difference?

i second that if entertainment is her making innuendo and insulting every contestant, there must be a way to avoid paying the TV licence (aside from not watching tv of course...) but this is what more music should be like though

This song put my babies to bed many nights! They are grown now but I still get that comforting feeling when I hear it! I miss my babies!
Amazing voice. Is there anything this woman cannot sing. Her voice blends in so well. She's not afraid to sing anything.
