The roads in France are a revelation if you're used to those in the UK. There are some poor road surfaces around the place, but, in general they're very good. I'd also say that the traffic is much better behaved too; they treat cyclists as proper road users and not just something that's in the way. It's just a very nice place to go and ride a bike!
