    Ha! I was thinking the boys were Brits. Honestly, I am still planning on doing a full rebuild and have been perusing the Internet for this information and I've found tons of literature and videos about rebuilding. This certainly seems to be the very best I have come across. I have watched hours and hours of videos but I have learned more about everything from these fellas. Good job fellas! Thanks so much for doing a good job... -buddy

    This is obviously a DVD rip from the DIY-RE 13B box set, and just for a fun fact Lance Warren (asking the questions) is the new owner of Heathcote Park dragway in Victoria. Right at the start there's a photo of his 3 rotor 626 facing the bench in a few shots.

    Awesome video, every other video I've seen of a wankel is an animation of a fully-assembled one.
    I shuddered when the expert guy was saying about how people sand off the Cd-plating on the rotors though... No-one wants to be inhaling cadmium dust!!!

    Rotors rarely need replacement, unless there has been catastrophic failure and detonation.
    80% of the time they're reusable. Out of that 80%, 10% would ever need to be machined for clearance when you're building a motor for lots of power as well as the apex seal groove.

    Is there a HD version of this? I'd like to see more detail in the wear, but it's pretty blurry at 480p.

  • @rotor13
    @rotor13 10 років тому

    the process is the same, but tolerances are going to be different as the RX-8 uses a different shaped side seal.
    Internal parts are also going to be the same, but the part numbers are different from other RX's so its best to use the specific part numbers for your car.

  • @kinghigh303

    What's the % or engines that need new housings an rotors? (I would think most the time u need to replace the irons an housings ext)

  • @akilae3638
    @akilae3638 2 роки тому

    How do you clearance the bearings?

  • @rotor13
    @rotor13 10 років тому

    theres nothing concrete about the rate of parts that need replacement.
    normally, irons don't ever need replacing but they will need to be lapped. (If you lap them too much, they'll need to be given a new nitriding process as its only a few mils thick)
    If stepped wear on irons is within OE specs, then simply using a lot of valve grinding compound and a lot of time, between two irons to break the mirror finish is enough. Some people don't bother, but its good practice to have good oil retention

    what is the main cause of the apex seals going bad? Check the oil. clean oil must be key?

    • @bevan2645
      @bevan2645 8 років тому

      nah oil cant really get dirty/bad it gets used too fast, its more design of engine. they just wear, correct oil for sure but do more damage doing short jorneys than anything, its no gt engine mind. just design of it really they will never outlast piston rings they go through different abuse

    • @davidhuffman2075

    how much would it cost to buy a 22b rotary engine.
    All in parts to rebuild myself.

    • @Kroged
      @Kroged 8 років тому

      +Jimmy Zeal I think you mean 20b 3 rotor engine. Just look up the prices of everything for a 13b rebuild and then ad 50% on the price.. there are kits available specific to the 20b engine but it's about the same money as double 13b kits. If you were to be buying the whole engine in parts it would be rather pricey as there is a few custom parts for the 20b that will not be found on a 13b engine. These are. the excentric axle ofc, and the center plate. These parts no longer are available at mazda so you would have to look for used parts.

      +Mortalomena no not at all but look up what brink did to the rotary motor what he found in it flaws. i have 2 that i have built based on his information and i rebuilt one at around like 85-90k i think it was.

    • @godfreypoon5148

      +Mark Boesen 55-60k miles? What a crock of shit. 150k if you're doing it wrong.
      And Ernie Brink doesn't know his arse from his face when it comes to rotary engines. Can't weld either. No surprise your engine didn't last.
