Literally every single European nation has a dirty laundry list longer than the US and also doesn't give out trillions of dollars in aid every year. You should see if you can export your hypocrisy or use to fend off the Russians. Its the best thing you got.
Let's start with calling it US-American history, since the former refugees from Europe killed many actual 'Americans' or deported them to remote areas before taking their land and then betrayed the british crown with huge support from France. after that they were bold enough to call themselves 'Americans'. that's also funny since the USA isn't even the largest country of NORTH America due to Canada, which is not the target of US dad jokes by accident. and back then the USA didn't even steal those 5+ states from Mexico, including California, Texas and more so it was even smaller at that time. now the greatest worry of US-Americans is the 'illegal immigration' by Mexicans, who will always be more 'American' than those white ex-refugee colonists could ever be. but it's like that with every country, they don't wanna deal with their dirty history in any way, which is actually quite toxic.

I applaud the effort to engage with political satire in a language you don't speak, especially when it targets your own political system. Satire and comedians play a crucial role in society by speaking their minds without fear of repercussions. They have the unique ability to critique and challenge political systems through humor, often exposing uncomfortable truths. When politicians, who are elected by the people, begin to suppress these voices, it signals a move towards authoritarianism. If comedians are silenced due to political pressure, it's a warning sign that freedom of expression is under threat. In a healthy democracy, satire serves as a vital tool for fostering open dialogue and encouraging societal reflection and change. I am German - you need to keep in mind - even for a German Pispers is not everyone's cup of coffee. He talks very fast - almost mumbling - and you need to have some political understanding of world politics. Anyway - keep it up!
The phrase Pispers is refering to is a bible quotation (O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.), which has found its way into the german language as an ideom. In German the verb "gehen" from "vorüber gehen" is used as well in the meaning of going by as passing by. So, this joke is quite untranslatable, especially if you take into account, that Wolfgang Schäuble sat in a wheelchair, which is why Pispers says "what kind of cup rolled by us..." It's just as maggou90 said: You really had no chance without speaking German and some good knowledge about german politicians of that time.
i knew that idions with the verb rolling even before that ... cuz a 'cup' in itself cant walk, but is cylindrical in shape i.e. it can roll. so people used that even before as their normal way of saying that idiom. might just be the "uneducated lower classes" that at least tried to apply logic in this metaphor
@@eyeofthasky Ähm... In fact, the "cup that passes away" is more likely to refer to the hemlock cup that Socrates died from. There are other expressions that refer to this. For example, "to drain the hemlock cup to the dregs" or "to drink the hemlock cup anyway". And since Socrates had already been dead for 400 years when the events described in the New Testament took place in Palestine, it is highly likely that these expressions had already entered ancient usage...
@@melchiorvonsternberg844 Hey, good to know, so thanks for educating me, I guess. ^^ I did know about the "Schierlingsbecher" but it didn't come to my mind, because it's typically called a "Becher" and not a "Kelch", like in the expression Pispers used. Yeah, the truth hurts. Sometimes ignorance is bliss, no? But then again, you can never unsee this and the world suddenly takes on a whole new form, something you've never seen before. And all of a sudden, the world is so much more ... complex, depressing, and at the same time ... intriguing. I've gone through a similar process myself, despite living in Europe. Pispers is a leftist and has no clue about capitalism. His criticism is targeting central banking which he is mixing up with capitalism which is actually the opposite = socialism = financing an elite.
Ryan, I hope you will be ready for the next part. For me that's the most heavy part of them all, and I was aware of the content before seeing/hearing it.
As a Brit born in the 1950s who learnt a fair bit about the history of the British Empire from people who had actually lived and served in the civil service or army in those countries, and from people born in the Subcontinent, I was aware that Afghanistan was always the place where foreign powers suffered a debacle. It happened to the Ancient Greeks, the Persians, the Mughals, the British, the Russians, and more recently the Americans and their (more or less reluctant) allies. Afghanistan is a place that no external power has ever managed to defeat or control.
Incorrect. Alexander the Great had no problems suppressing the Afghans of the ancient World and it was the fucking Indians and fighting elephants that cock blocked his chance to rule the whole world. Also, the Mongols, whose empire rivalled the British empire in size, had minimal problems with the Afghan tribes. Finally, Sean Connery & Micheal Caine also conquered Afghanistan courtesy of Rudyard Kippling's excellent "The Man Who Would Be King"....but your poetic point still stands, despite its lack of factual truth.
Volker Pispers had the best, strongest and truthful political cabaret program for over 10 years in Germany. An absolute mastermind, stright into the face and no fear of telling the truth. He gave an interview, where he stated, that he wondered about people loghing at his show, when he told such anoying and inpopriate storys about the truth of politics and economy.....
I was told Pisper stopped doing these shows because he got fed up with people just ignoring it. They all laugh about it but in the end he was telling the truth. And everyone is laughing about it and afterwards will never think of it again.
For me as a german its always difficult to hear something like that from a fellow countryman because we can't manage anything in our country at the moment 🎉kind regards ✌️

If you want a German speaker to help out, I gladly volunteer. Even though I'm working full-time and raising to kids with my wife, spreading Volker Pispers' message to an American audience is important enough that I'd happily make time to help out.
Piepers was a legend! And yes, in these days I would celebrate his appearance. But what is it good for, when people don’t change their minds after visiting such a show. It is good for a laughter and maybe nice to get a verbal punch but after all it’s the people, who need to act. George Carlins once said: It’s not the government that sucks, the people suck.
The cup of the possible president refers to Matthew 26;39 “My Father if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me." The literal translation of the German version is "Let this cup go by me". The "has rolled by us" refers to the fact, that Schäuble - the guy he is talking about - sat in a wheelchair for the rest of his life after surviving an attack in 1990. Shortly before this show, he was considered as a candidate for President of Germany - a mostly ceremonial position in this country.
With Pispers you took up the tough stuff. Kudos. Apart from being filled with wordplay (tough to get for a non-native) he's so darn cruel. I once saw him live on stage. It's the laugh he's causing while hitting you so hard in the guts that you nearly choke. I fully admire him for that. Two important things: he's certainly pushing his narrative very much leaving some complexity out but eventually it's the critical thinking he may start among the audience perhaps seeing the world in black and white in the beginning of his show. And his segment about the US is not all of this work. He's even tougher in bashing Germans and German politics.
A friend of mine (german), who was a soldier in afghanistan, answered the question "Why we went there" -> "That was a drill for what might happen next in the western world".
8:20 some context: At that time, the then interior minister Wolfgang Schäuble, who was wheelchair-bound (hence "rolled by us") was considered a possible candidate for Federal President of Germany (Germany's head of state, but not the head of government; the head of government is the chancellor), but ended up being not nominated because the political majorities had changed and he would have had no chance getting elected.
You are asking what are you supposed to do? I can tell you that you can not do much in that situation. But you can do one thing. You can vote. And you can take precautions and make new laws that regulate what your government is allowed to do. It’s not about what one person can do. It’s about what all people can do together. It’s called democracy.
Voting is the ultimate con. Most people don't vote because they know it is a con. If you vote, you just took the blue pill to make yourself feel better.
the 2 party system in the USA is merely an illusion for the civilians to believe they have the freedom of choice. Because there is not much difference between republicans and democrats. Both support the military industry and the rich.
7.14 Ryan, I have the same thoughts. I think the only solution is an education, where you learn how to think for yourself. I had some great teachers, fortunately. They taught me to consume all kind of information, and to compare it and think critically. I‘m trying to do that, but it’s not easy
12:40 Yes, there are recent interviews, where Bush is a bit more honest about all of this. But nevertheless - what Volker is telling you here is all facts - the papers that confirm all of this, have been unclassified and are available for the public by the US government. I have absolutely no clue, why the information it contains, seems to be basically unheard of by the average US citizen. This is wrong and US media should have reported about all of these lies in depth - but they didn't for some reason. It is way more common for the average European to retrospetively know about this, because media over here did report about most of it to some degree.
In our next lifes, I hope, we well see George Carlin and Volker Pispers together on stage. It will be funny as hell, absolutely eye opening, you will feel miserable and hopefully, you really start to question what your government does behind your back...
You're a nice guy, that's what it seems like. If you ever come to Germany, you're always welcome and invited to our region. Love and greetings from Bochum / North Rhine-Westphalia / Germany. Take care of yourself and stay safe 🤘😃🤘
I have the feeling that you, Ryan, feel somewhat the same (especially in the first episode) when i first discovered what the German Nazi regime did in WWII. All the murder, all the wasted lifes ... for nothing than power, money and ressources. As a German child i had the tears running from the eyes when discovering that also parts of my family, for example my grandpa, who i loved so much, were involved in that. Luckily, he was "only" part of the Wehrmacht (the german military forces) and not of something more evil like the SS. And more so, he was willing to speak with me about what he experienced as a cavallerist (yes, on horses) on both frontlines. In the end one has to question everyone and everything which happens and has to reason about it using multiple, also foreign information sources to get a grasp on whats truly going on. Even if the truth hurts and one has to discover that not everything our countries do is for the good - especially when it comes to a question of peace or war. Wishing you all the best and keep up the good work :)
The cup refers to Socrates (ancient greek philospher), who was forced to drink a cup of poison. In Germany it is a common phrase to say "That cup went past me."

Nice to see you keep going on these. A lot to learn when you rise your gaze over the horizon. This includes every country, not just the USA
American history is like two hundred years old and it is filled with wars, slavery, massacres, genocide and pandemics. Honestly if I want to learn any history of this continent, I will study native Americans.
Yeah because they didnt wage wars and commit massacres among themselves lol
@@alexanderantoninsommerkamp4714 ... "among themselves" - you know it but you don't understand ... verry USA.
Typical self righteous hypocritical European response. Imagine committing atrocities for a millennium and then trying to act like the USA invented them or something. If our past is dirty, yours is monstrous in comparison. Hell Germans were still doing that in the 20th century. You Dutch? French? English? Literally every single European nation has a dirty laundry list longer than the US and also doesn't give out trillions of dollars in aid every year.
You should see if you can export your hypocrisy or use to fend off the Russians. Its the best thing you got.
so like every country

Hey Ryan, don't fret, this is what dealing with one's own country's history is supposed to feel like. We've all gone through it. Some of us more than others. But that is the exact reason why we need to do it.
"Medizin muss bitter schmecken, sonst nützt sie nichts"
Volker Pispers also has a great show about the economy and capitalism.
oh yeah the americans are not painted in the best light in that one either. But i don't know if there's a subtitled version available on youtube
Good job to bring VP voice to US ears.
Hello Ryan,
I usually don’t reach out to the creator of a channel, but I just feel that the way you respond to current events contributes a lot to the understanding between our nations, the USA and Germany. I find your work important and just wanted to let you know that you need to keep going. No TV channel or major publication has the kind of impact that an honest UA-cam format like yours does. Your work is important and will help generations better understand each other. Keep on rockin from Horst near Hamburg Germany
Part 4 Hype!
So, this joke is quite untranslatable, especially if you take into account, that Wolfgang Schäuble sat in a wheelchair, which is why Pispers says "what kind of cup rolled by us..."
It's just as maggou90 said: You really had no chance without speaking German and some good knowledge about german politicians of that time.
i knew that idions with the verb rolling even before that ... cuz a 'cup' in itself cant walk, but is cylindrical in shape i.e. it can roll. so people used that even before as their normal way of saying that idiom. might just be the "uneducated lower classes" that at least tried to apply logic in this metaphor
I did know about the "Schierlingsbecher" but it didn't come to my mind, because it's typically called a "Becher" and not a "Kelch", like in the expression Pispers used. However, in english both words can be translated to "cup".
@@beatus7251 You're right. It's a question of style and elegance of a language. You can also use mug, but that's not a good style...
i love your reactions. as a tip, when you are done with pisperS, there is a very good german satire program "die anstalt"... they also dealt with this topic (among others) - also available on youtube!

'Army of stoners', 'potheads',... is exactly what he said, translated perfectly fine.
Best time of the day: Ryan uploaded a new video 🎉
And of course Iran is only two weeks away from having a nuclear device, like they have been for the last twenty years.
The "cup passing by" is a German idiom from the bible where Jesus asks for mercy from God, saying, "if it be possible, let this cup pass from me"

Jedenfalls wenigstens fast.
Um, i'd say "Got it?"
Volker Pispers is the GOAT
The crazy thing is that it happened again with Nordstream 2.
But no, it’s just being ignored, hoping people will forget about it.
16:00 "If the practicant is bitchy" - That was poorly translated!
A "Praktikantin" is a female intern. Someone like Monica Lewinsky.
True, and Lewinsky was the reason he said that.
Mr. Pispers is the goat. Everybody in germany knows that.
8 000 000 000 mad people on a little blue marble and there is no way out.
"Der Kelch ist an uns vorbeigegangen" ("The cup has passed us by") is a German ideom comparable to "we dodged a bullet there".
And the reference to Schäuble rolling past, is that because 'vorbeigegangen' implies walking?
A friend of mine (german), who was a soldier in afghanistan, answered the question "Why we went there" -> "That was a drill for what might happen next in the western world".
Education is important
8:20 some context: At that time, the then interior minister Wolfgang Schäuble, who was wheelchair-bound (hence "rolled by us") was considered a possible candidate for Federal President of Germany (Germany's head of state, but not the head of government; the head of government is the chancellor), but ended up being not nominated because the political majorities had changed and he would have had no chance getting elected.

Wow!
Volker Pispert is GREAT!!! Saw him live once, shortly before he kinda retired. Another one you should check out is Serdar Somuncu!

It´s frustating...
