Well, Buc IS young in the 1770's. He's only a couple of years older than Bree. But, no, Roger doesn't meet up with Dougal, he meets up with Buc, who apparently comes through the stones accidentally (like Claire did originally).
When Roger and Brianna went back to the 1960s and then they had trouble in Scotland, Roger went back through the stones and met Dougal when he was younger. "Written in My Own Heart's Blood" is when Roger encounters him. Let's see if the television series gets this far.
In 1776 at the end of the sixth book, Bree and Roger have to go back to the 20th century to have their baby daughter's heart condition fixed. They go to 1978 (202 years is the default setting in time travel, apparently) and in the eighth book, in about 1981, Buck accidentally comes through time after taking his family back to Scotland, having failed to establish himself in the colonies. He discovers that Roger and Brianna are there and joins them at Lallybroch, which they now own. To make up for having gotten Roger hanged, he volunteers to help him search for Jemmy when the boy is kidnapped and apparently taken through the stones. They end up in 1739 and visit Brian Fraser and get his help and the help of Dougal Mackenzie in the search. Buck even gets to meet Geillis! So if the show creators get to film all the books, Buck and Dougal will meet! How will that work, with Graham playing both of them?
Yep! Book 8.. Buck and Roger go back and land in time before dougal and Geillis meet. And they meet dougal. Cannot wait to see how they handle this in the show.. if they do a season 8!

Dougal is about the most complex character on TV. I would find myself saying 'he's a good guy" "He's a bad guy" back and forth.
Dougal & Buck both are good to their family members; at least if an outsider is threatening them, they are very protective, but they can be kind, too.
