I ended up on stage with Danny during a pantomine he was in at the Bristol Hipodrome in the 1980s. I was one of about 4 or 5 kids picked from the audeince to go on stage and say our names, ages etc and then be given sweets and balloons. I was the littlest and he singled me out to stay on stage once the other kids had gone back to their seats and did some light hearted mickey taking and I remember him being so kind, asking if I was OK off microphone and bending down and holding my hand when I got a bit overwhelmed. I came off that stage barely able to walk under all the sweets so we gave them to the other children around where we were sitting. My mum says when we got home I told her he was a kind man and I would marry him when I got older (I was bout 4 or 5!!). Danny, thank you for a lovely childhood memory, I hope you are resting in well deserved peace xx
No words needed an amazing man entertainer and made his own way in life. He was also a veteran of WW2 and deserves respect for his service. Rest in peace, comrade 😢

Hi Paul, can I just say thank you so much for paying respects, Danny la rue was my gt uncle! He was adopted when young and my grandma found him when younger a lot don’t know full story. I don’t know full story as my Nan died many years ago!! He was a true gent and was happy to find my mum and us as family xxxxx
@@UnusualThings1 your very welcome, am going to try find out from a cousin I have on my mums side and find out more of him. I have great memories and met him a few times he really was a humble gent. It was a honour to have him as a gt uncle and very proud of him and what he achieved xxx
That was so respectful and informative, and to see him buried with Mr Hanson was so unexpectedly beautiful. He spent the last few years of his life on Southampton and was often see around. The first time I met him I walked into a very quiet club (The Mag) on a wet, cold January night in the late 90's. Danny was sat at the bar with the owner. For an hour or so there were just the four of us, he bought us bottles of champagne and entertained us to the point I was aching with laughter. Such a gentleman, very much deserves his place in the greats of entertainment. Thanks Paul
Hi Paul, a few requests please. Would you be able to visit Lionel Blair, Bob Monkhouse and Ronnie Corbett if they have final resting places? Miss them all. Thanks. Another great video by the way. 😊

I remember my mum watching Danny when I was little. I remember having a struggle acknowledging that he was a man dressed up as a lady. When I grew up into my teens it used to fascinate me how he could put makeup on better than ever managed to do…I’m no better today+usually look like a clown when I attempt to get made up now. My mum loved him, as did I…he opened the door for Lily Savage…so he’s got a lot to be proud of…he had a very posh speaking voice as far as I remember, but he was fabulous!!! Rest In Peace Danny…hope you’re looking down+knowing how much you’ve done for the great drag queens who you opened the door for+how much you’re loved by many!!! Still loving your great videos, keep going young man, you’re doing a fantastic job!!! X❤️🙃
I once spoke to Danny on the phone when I was working at an estate events who were selling his house and he phoned up for an update. It was only a brief conversation but he was friendly and polite.
I watched the documentary on Danny recently . Very sad how he went from one of the biggest celebrities to loosing his fortune to two Canadian fraudsters
@@Rob-Benny-Hill I just did a Google search and found the doc right away and I'm a yank. If I can do it so can you. Thanks I advance for not substituting the 'y' in yank with a 'w'.
My Mums Grandad was Irish like Danny La Rue, born in County Cork. My Mum came from a large family of 10, including 8 sisters and two brothers. Born and raised in Stepney, East London. My Mum and her family was fond of Danny La Rue, and saw him many times performing on stage throughout the years. But with the greatest respect, the catholic cemetery my Mum and Sister is buried in; City of London Cemetery & Crematorium has much more greenery there, including Roses next to my Mum and Sisters memorial plaques, and a lovely cafe there and a beautiful church. Apparently, the cemetery is owned by City of London in the city and is well maintained throughout the year. It’s just a shame Danny La Rues cemetery is overlooked by those new developments, and looks like it’s out in the open too much, with hardly any trees to hide the buildings overlooking the cemetery. But there was some beautiful headstones there Paul.
Hi Paul, I remember going to see Danny at a theatre in London about 50 years ago, the show was absolutely fantastic, I also went to the cinema to see Our miss fred a great movie,vi have now got Danny's movie on DVD, thanks Danny for thelaughter, thanks Paul for the story about Danny.
Hi Paul love all your shows. My mother saw Danny La Rue in the 1970s at the Severn Manor In Stourport On Severn. She met him backstage after the show and got his autograph. She's still got that autograph today In a picture frame.
So glad you found his grave. I have been their a few times but have problems finding his grave. Thanks to you I should find it now.Theiers an interesting grave you may want to vist in the cemetery next door .The grave stands out like a shine. It's the grave of a young boy who died in a horse accident you shouldn't have any problems in finding the grave it's very beautiful. Rest in peace danny hope to visit again soon.
I had the pleasure of meeting Dan on his first tour to the Perth Concert Hall in Western Australia in the 70's. Following that meeting, it resulted in Dan and Jack, becoming very close friends with my husband and two children. We had the pleasure of seeing Dan and Jack many times, during our many trips to the UK. ie Blackpool, Nottingham, opening night of Hello Dolly in London. We stayed at Dan's, The Swan Inn in beautiful Streatley, and Waltham Hall. During a further tour of Australia, including Western Australia, Dan and Jack visited our home for lunch. We treasure our special friendship we had, to this day, October 2023. Life brought great sadness with the passing of Jack, Danny, my husband Peter, and at the age of 84 I am now in an Aged Care Facility. So many cherished and treasured memories from the years gone by. RIP darling Danny, our family loved you so very much and we were blessed to have your friendship. ❤❤
I met Danny when I saw him in cabaret doing one-man-shows in, I think, 1999. He was sweet, gracious and down to earth. Thank you for a respectful and courteous video showing us Danny's final resting place. He was so much more than a drag act: his impersonations as women were always done tastefully, and he never mocking or sexist whilst performing in a frock. I never knew his grave is in Kensal Rise. I think he’d indeed have had something to say about the building going up in the background lol.
As a child I saw Danny playing widow twanky in panto at the hippodrome in Birmingham .. in the 70s a true professional and star ... ... Always love watching your channel ...

Great video Paul! A friend of mine called Micky lived in Kensal Rise,he and his mum are both Irish and frequently attended mass at The Catholic Church of Transfiguration were Danny‘s funeral was held. I do remember him telling me they also attended the funeral as they were regulars at that church. Cool car in the start of the video and those tower blocks are hideous and should have never been Given planning permission overlooking St Mary’s as it’s disrespectful. ✝️

As always, thank you for this. I thought Mr La Rue an excellent entertainer, seeing him sometimes when l cut through Cavendish Square. It was very noble of him to repay monies owed when he was innocent of the crime which ruined him. I ALWAYS think of the poem by G.K. Chesterton, which ends "For there is good news yet to hear and fine things to be seen, Before we go to Paradise by way of Kensal Green". Rest in Peace.

Oh Paul. I just love the "If FINK I found it". That accent is wonderful. Thank you for all of your hard work bringing these treasures to us. Thank you Paul. A great video as usual. I always find it very sad when you have to walk away and they are left there all on their own when when entertained so many people in their lifetime. He was a great entertainer. There is a lesson learnt here never sign anything until your lawyer and you have read it. Signed away his life didn’t he. I wonder what happened to the thief’s who did that to him. Anyway the lovely lady looked after him till the end. Thankyou Paul your videos are simply the best. RIP Danny. ❤
What I loved about Danny LaRue was that he was really outrageous as a drag artist but during his performance he always made it clear that he was a male. He was warm, funny and intriguing. RIP, Danny.
Hi ,Paul . A superb entertainer ,though I haven't seen that much of his work . Those new buildings remind me of how ,Woking looked a while back , maybe the building has changed the water table , hence the puddles and so many leaning headstones . I found a new word today ; Coimetromania . Not that I mean to decry your good work , just thought you may like to add it to your vocabulary . I too enjoy a stroll through church yards . Thanks for another fine tribute . RIP , Danny .

Well done Paul, another great video! Loved watching Danny on TV when I was growing up and still enjoy watching him in some of the surviving episodes of ‘The Good Old Days’ where is was a regular performer. Interesting what you said about the cemetery. My wife and I had a few coach holidays in Austria some years ago. Austria is a Catholic country and their cemeteries are amazing. The ones we saw were much smaller than cemetery’s tend to be in the UK but the graves were immaculately kept and usually had a small lantern mounted in front of the headstone that family would light at night, very pretty. Keep ‘em coming!
I was at the Kensal Green Cemetery yesterday looking for my Grandad. I finally found it with the help of my Uncle, it is 72 acres so you could easily spend a few hours in there looking if you don’t know the plot number. Also there are a few famous people there.
Hi Paul. Glad you paid tribute to Danny La Rue. My Mother adored him and he was so very popular. A super entertainer. A most wonderful man bringing us great songs and shows. So sad those Canadian guys betrayed him so savagely . Danny I believe his costume designer really cared . A excellent tribute to a extra special guy. Thank you so very much Paul . Kindest regards.
Thank you Paul for seeking out the resting place of Danny La Rue. I saw him 3 times in Panto in Birmingham, twice in Cinderella and once in Aladdin. He was a fabulous guy and his dresses were absolutely amazing. I remember one of them being covered in mirrors and catching the lighting in the theatre. Very impressive.
A much loved entertainer And certainly set the Bar high for future performers like the late great Paul O’Grady Danny always used to drop his voice throughout his performance so that audiences knew he was a Man & loved making people laugh with his opening “Wotcha Mates” Loved him in the film “Come Spy with me “ A lovely man Thank you Paul I enjoyed this one 🙏🏻💙
Thank you Paul, another good one... Danny was one of my fav. entertainers as a child into my teens. Some of the other entertainers of those decades i would find disturbing (so no naming names... Just like that 😉). Thanks again.
Many a time would we see him in The Post Office in Tunbridge Wells cashing in his pension. A very humble and pleasant man. His fame was never at the forefront and he was so polite to the staff behind the counter. Thank you Paul
I remember watching him with my mum but he seamed to just disappear. Thanks for sharing his story it was very interesting. I do love watching your videos from Holmfirth West Yorkshire 💙💚

Beautiful monuments of their families love.
Amazing entertainer I remember him well , thanks Paul
Hey Paul I've met Danny many times awesome video and doing a awesome job
Great performer. Great guy.
I haven't heard if the Canadians responsible were held accountable for their actions.
Just sayin'.
Yet again, another top piece of work, Paul. It's your work mostly that encouraged me to start my channel.
Cheers Kev, and keep at it mate
Thank you Paul for seeking out the resting place of Danny La Rue. I saw him 3 times in Panto in Birmingham, twice in Cinderella and once in Aladdin. He was a fabulous guy and his dresses were absolutely amazing. I remember one of them being covered in mirrors and catching the lighting in the theatre. Very impressive.
Another fantastic video Paul thank you for all the hard work and travelling you do into bringing us these videos x
A much loved entertainer
And certainly set the Bar high for future performers like the late great Paul O’Grady
Danny always used to drop his voice throughout his performance so that audiences knew he was a Man & loved making people laugh with his opening “Wotcha Mates”
Loved him in the film “Come Spy with me “
A lovely man
Thank you Paul I enjoyed this one 🙏🏻💙
Thank you Paul, another good one... Danny was one of my fav. entertainers as a child into my teens. Some of the other entertainers of those decades i would find disturbing (so no naming names... Just like that 😉). Thanks again.
Ha, my mum always use to say ' he's got better legs than me '
Many a time would we see him in The Post Office in Tunbridge Wells cashing in his pension.
Another fab video thank you Paul x
