  • Welcome to my channel! Today, I'm taking you on a journey through one of the most fascinating and eerie places on earth - the ghost town of Varosha in Cyprus.
Varosha, once a bustling tourist destination, is now a ghost town frozen in time. Located in the city of Famagusta, Varosha was a popular hotspot in the 1970s, attracting visitors from around the world with its stunning beaches and vibrant nightlife.
In 1974, everything changed. Following a Turkish military invasion of Cyprus, the residents of Varosha fled, leaving behind a thriving community. The town has been abandoned ever since, fenced off and under the control of the Turkish military. Varosha remains a poignant symbol of the island's divided history.
Walking through Varosha today is like stepping into a time capsule. The once-grand hotels and shops are now crumbling, overtaken by nature. Streets that were once filled with tourists are now eerily silent, with only the sound of the wind and the occasional bird breaking the silence.
In recent years, there have been some efforts to reopen Varosha. In 2020, parts of the town were partially reopened to visitors, sparking both excitement and controversy. While some see it as a step towards reconciliation, others view it as a provocative move that complicates the peace process.
Walking through Varosha was a surreal experience. It’s a place where history stands still, reminding us of the fragility of peace and the impact of conflict. It’s a stark reminder of what happens when communities are torn apart, and a hopeful sign that perhaps, one day, the town will be fully revived.
Thank you for joining me on this journey through Varosha. If you found this video interesting, please like, share, and subscribe for more travel stories and explorations. Let me know in the comments what you think about Varosha's future - should it be reopened, or preserved as it is?
    Until next time, keep exploring!

This is truly the most fabulous (albeit sad) ghost city anywhere. It is perennially locked in 1974. I assume every building, every shop, every apartment has been looted by the Turks. Turkey is so quick to condemn Israel as an "occupier" and all sorts of rot, but meanwhile Turkey has illegally occupied 1/3 of Cyprus for 50 years and everyone seems to ignore that. So many Greek Cypriots lost their homes and businesses. Down with Palestine and Turkey! Viva Cyprus!

There have always been a lot of bad things in human history. People are aggressive, hateful beings.
But that doesn't mean that my generation or the new generations have to continue to cultivate and live out this hatred.
If we don't stop doing that, we will destroy everything we have left.

I agree . We can't keep on with the hatred. That's what caused this division in the first place . My dad was from Varosha. He moved to London to work , but was in Varosha working ( he was a musician) when the Turks invaded . The family fled and my dad ran to Akrotiri to the airbase . We lost my Granny's house of course but I just feel a great sadness for the older generation who lost their beloved town . The Cypriots, Greek and Turkish should come together , make friends and look after their island because at the moment the British, the EU and the USA are doing what they like there.
