Hi Ken. Having despaired of the keyboard on my Sys 1 for some time, I came upon your video. It took an hour, a bunch of Q tips, and your incredibly clear and concise video, and it now works perfectly. Thank you so much. This is brilliant.
Thanks so much I'd watch previous videos like you and my attempted fix didnt work. Cleaning the contact on the keyboard surface didnt work, but thanks to your video cleaning the button inside the rubber strip solved the issue.
I had to disassemble and clean contacts twice, basically you have to clean the carbon pads and the rubber contact pads with ISOPROP untill there isn't ANY black residue on the isoprop dipped cotton buds, get a new bud as soon as it gets too black ..mine is working like new now...also you can clean the ribbilon cable ends with isoprop and tge sockets with some white photocopying paper dipped in isoprop. Hope you get it sorted. ✌️
Wow. Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have never had the confidence to open up my own synths to do a repair and thanks to you I managed this quick fix with no problems! You are a hero for this video!
Thanks !! My friend !! My first key doesn’t work unless I push down hard in the back. You showed me all I need to do without worry !!! Have a great day ! You make a positive difference in peoples’ lives !!
How are the keys? It worked for me but after a while, the same problem returned. After cleaning it 3 times, i gave up. I still have to find a permanent solution.
@federicorosandi9634 sorted m8, just have to keep cleaning the carbon pad with a cotton swab , as soon as it starts going black , replace the swab and keep cleaning untill the cotton tip is white... Peace.
Many thanks - yes have same problem with the keys - however midi out to kbd is better anyway as you can have greater range and velocity - still it is a hugely underrated synth imo
Honestly, the System-1 is a great synth but Roland really dropped the bar in the quality of its keyboard. I've tried this method a few times, but the same keys start to get faulty again months after. I just gave up and hooked up an external midi keyboard instead. It sounds good and all but the keyboard design is just awful.
I tried everything and it is still the same, and Roland has no spare parts for me to buy them myself, they make me send it to the technician and the cost is very high for the repair, also practically all the potentiometers fail they go crazy...the quality of this synth is the worst I have ever seen in my life..... 500€ down the drain

Many thanks! Cleaned contacts and now it's working a lot better.
Thank you! Other people were saying to use tape to add more pressre to the contacts but i didn't like that idea.
Thanks !! My friend !!

Thanks so much for this video I was about to throw my system one in the pool lol
Could you point me in the right direction I’ve got Roland so1a that won’t turn on …
Make sure you clean up the tape and connectors DECENTLY.

with a 5-pin midi sync cable, just hook them up and set them at the same midi channel and works fine

Buy a carbon pen, it's like a carbon glue that makes another track
😮😊
