  • How to lead a good life that merits little (or no time) in Purgatory? The message came in a private revelation in Holy Love Ministry, where messages from Our Lord Jesus, Our Heavenly Mother Mary, angels, saints and even poor souls in Purgatory, come regularly since 1985. This message was given on July 25, 2006.
The Bishop* comes. He says: "Praise be to Jesus."
"Here is the way to avoid a long stay in Purgatory. Always please God and neighbor ahead of self. The soul that becomes self-absorbed--that is, always considering cost to self in every situation--risks having to spend much more time being purified by the flames of love in Purgatory because of his selfish attitudes."
"Therefore, do not be selfish about the use of your time, money or any spiritual gifts God has given you. Be willing to part with any material goods that are not a necessity. Guide those in Holy Love that God has given you charge over. In humility show gratitude when others do you a favor or compliment you."
"These things I am telling you today are the fulfillment of the Holy Love Message through truth and humility. Remember that anger and impatience, jealousy and avarice, are always signs that you are focusing too much on self. These things should be a signal to you to refocus on God and others."
"Pray to the poor souls to help you with this."
*Bishop Ignatius Horstmann - former Bishop of Cleveland, Ohio Diocese.

I fear this the most. This is why we must always be prepared, penance, the Holy Mass, good deeds and of course faith. Lord remember me.

Thank you for posting that. I need to go to confession and then to Mass. I needed to see this, and hope I take time to review it time to time. Very real, solid, graspable advice. I am a work in progress.

I pray for the Protestants who firmly believe there is no purgatory and have no one to pray for them when they go there, if they go there. They would have some of the longest and most painful experiences of that state which they swore did not exist. It's got to be like the atheist who closes his eyes for the last time, (he thinks) and wakes up to eternal horror. Your entire life capsulized into a moments realization that you lived a lie. The protestant lucky enough to enter purgatory finds that they cannot help themselves and there are no family or friends praying for them either. A shame.

That is where you step in and pray for the most neglected or unprayed for. You choose if you want to assist them or not. It is a blessing when you help them, they will help you when they have paid for their sins.

    Where does purgatory take place?

In the New Testament the term prison is used to talk about the Purgatory:
Matthew 5,25-26: "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the Judge, and the Judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.".
If we have not enough mercy for the persons on Earth, we will have to pay in the Purgatory:
Matthew 18,33-34: "...Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee? And his Lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.".
When Jesus died, he went to preached to the poor souls of the Purgatory, here also, the term prison is used:
1 Peter 3,19: "...By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison...".
      Also, more subtle:
Matthew 12,32: "And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.".
This verse means that contrary to the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, some sins can be forgiven in the world to come, expression that means after the death, so, in the Purgatory.
And it's from the Jewish people that we learned that we have to pray for the souls of the Purgatory:
2 Maccabees 12,43-46: "...And making a gathering, he sent twelve thousand drachms of silver to Jerusalem for sacrifice to be offered for the sins of the dead, thinking well and religiously concerning the resurrection, (For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead,) And because he considered that they who had fallen asleep with godliness, had great grace laid up for them. It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.".
So you see, some people are forgiven after their deaths, and the place that they have to go is the Purgatory, I hope that you've learn something today. May God open your eyes and bless you in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Also I forgot an important verse Saint Paul talks about the fire of the Purgatory:
1 Corinthians 3,15: "If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.".
The terms "he shall suffer loss" indicate a punishment, but as the verse says, the person is saved. It's the fire of the Purgatory. ;)

Shawn Ray purgation happens every time a human is in close proximity of God.
Look at the Bible every time a human comes in contact with God . it always change the person.

How to avoid purgatory? How can one avoid something that doesn't Biblically exist? The Catholic Church knows that purgatory is not a Bible teaching. As the following Catholic sources say:
    1. After reviewing what Catholic writers have said regarding such texts as 2 Maccabees 12:39-45, Matthew 12:32, and 1 Corinthians 3:10-15, the New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. XI, p. 1034) acknowledges: “In the final analysis, the Catholic doctrine on purgatory is based on tradition, not Sacred Scripture.”
    2. "There is, for all practical purposes, no biblical basis for the doctrine of purgatory.” (Catholic Richard P. McBrien, Catholicism: New Edition, [HarperOne, 1994], p. 1166)
    3. The footnotes To The Roman Catholic New American Bible Admit That 1 Corinthians 3:15 Lends No Scriptural Support For Purgatory: “The text of v. 15 has sometimes been used to support the notion of purgatory, though it does not envisage this.”
The Catholic Church is a cesspool of false teachings.

Purgatory doesn't exist. Just heaven or hell. If you are born again (John 3:16), you go to heaven. If not, you go to hell. Pretty simple, folks.

Wil liam Bible comes from God for our education and salvation. It is the road map and enough is said there to get us to Heaven. But it doesn't mean that if a particular word is not used in the Bible, the phenomenon does not exist. Purgatory is described by St Paul when he says: everyone's deeds will be tested by fire. He was talking about fellow Christians. So this is what Purgatory is on the one hand - the test by fire. Also Purgatory is a place, it was seen by many Christians who had visions from God over the past 2000 years, particularly described by those who we now call saints. Purgatory is only the pre-room to Heaven. It is a temporary state and getting into there means you have been saved by the blood of Jesus, but that you have none the less done things in your Christian life since Baptism (Baptism perfectly wipes out our past sins) that you first need to be cleansed of. Remember the parable of the Wedding Feast. All were called to the feast, not many came and even among those who came there was a person who did not wear the right garments, meaning he was not yet cleansed of sin. Only the perfectly pure can come straight to Heaven. That purity is achieved through Our Lord's Sacrifice on the one hand and through our perfect response to it, a perfect contrition, on the other. The Gift of Eternal Life has to be worthily received. If it is received at all then you are saved, but if the reception is imperfect (imperfect contrition, life of sin continues in any small way) then it all needs to be perfected somewhere. This is Purgatory. Purgatory is a sign of God's Mercy, it is for those who are saved and once their purification is finished, they will rejoice with God in Heaven. So as you see the concept Purgatory is based on the Bible, the experience and visions of the saints and sound theology.
