This was the first time I saw Arsenal play football as a kid. I had just found interest in football and my uncle was a Liverpool fan so I just supported them. After 15 minutes of this game I switched my loyalties to Arsenal. I was amazed by how they moved the ball and how they approached the game. Been a Gooner since.
Me too! I was a michael owen fan so started off with supporting liverpool, one game later, I switched to arsenal in 2001 and its been arsenal ever since.
It was actually a monumental win for arsenal at the time cuz they had not scored a goal at anfield for 5 years before this game. It was always their boogie ground. Still is lmao.
Zakaria Rochdi unbelievable player. He was pure class and his passing range and finishing was just sublime. Loved watching him. He had a telepathic connection with Henry.
Ljungberg was massively underrated in football history. Freddie Ljungberg played football in an era where world class players were in abundance. If he is playing now, he would have been rated on par with the likes of Sterling, Hazard, Mane, etc. The kind of runs he made & finishing skills was the kind of runs and finishing Wenger wished Walcott would have emulated. Unfortunately Theo lacked the intelligence, technique, and composure to do so.
The heartbeat was Adams & Vieira. They were the ones who instilled that toughness into the team. But all the other players were capable of taking the mantle when they weren't playing. Pretty much anyone on the bench (except Cygan) could slotted in seamlessly. The depth of that squad was superb.
That was beautiful to behold. It's easy to forget JUST how resolute and strong Arsenal were during this period. With many technically gifted players but always with a mental toughness and character!! We in later years seemed to lose? Beautiful memories for Arsenal fans Thank you Arsene!
I'm a Liverpool fan, but, fair play to this Arsenal side, to play at Anfield with only 10 men for the majority of the game and win in this way is class.
mustafa arsenal From a positive reaction about Ashley Cole's clearance to a poisionous big bloke who wants to get personal. I feel for you. Should I get a doctor?
Remember watching this game. Arsenal outclassed us with 10 men, but I LOVE the squad we had at that time - Berger, Litmanen, Hyypia, McAllister, Owen, Murphy, Gerrard, Babbel ... happy days. Thanks for uploading 👍
Kanu is a very underrated Arsenal Legend. Watch him on the ball, he almost never wasted a possession and always had a clever pass or through ball in his locker. I started supporting Arsenal just so i could watch what he did with the ball at his feet. Amazed me every time as a kid.
@Magare Evans I'm guessing that's your terrible excuse to why this Arsenal team never won back-to-back PL titles and never won the champions league? The reality is I recall they were favoured by officials often to the point it annoyed me so how do you explain that? That unbeaten run wouldn't have happened without decisions. Arsenal can't blame officials, they failed to win the 2002/03 title despite being given TWO offside goals in the SAME potential title decider vs ManUtd in April 2003 which finished 2-2 ManUtd scored 2 legitimate goals to Henry's 2 offside goals (his 2nd, absolutely horrendous decision). Arsenal were somehow still complaining about the officiating at the end of that game even?? And claimed that despite losing the title they were still the best team, so they weren't gracious either. Bad losers and underachievers.
@shubhang kulkarni Oh I've never heard Arsenal babies crying about that game constantly before. I really need to see that again 🤣 No sympathy whatsoever for 2 reasons (1) Arsenal don't go unbeaten long without cheating (2) What Arsenal players did the year earlier was despicable and the game in Oct2004 was all about revenge. I just find it funny how Arsenal cry forever about those games to the point everyone knows about it but people hardly talk about the Henry brace of offside goals game and games like that where Arsenal are heavily favoured because ManUtd just get on with it. Besides even in the 2-0 Oct2004, Cristiano should've had a penalty AshleyCole fouled him it was stonewall. I think ManUtd were worthy of at least a win by 1 goal anyway which is still a defeat for Arsenal. Also ManUtd as an away team have been on the receiving end of many of those types of games going to Highbury, Stamford bridge, Anfield etc...where it lost ManUtd a trophy and/or a record of some sort, you were never complaining about the officiating I'm sure of it. The ManUtd 2-0 Arsenal game didn't lose Arsenal a trophy it just ended an unbeaten record that would've been lost ages beforehand if Arsenal didn't get so much help from the officials themselves.
This was the game that made me start supporting the Arsenal. Winning at Anfield with 10 men is almost unheard of in the prem era. When we saw out the game i knew we were going to be champions that season.
I always thought that Ljungberg was the player that Walcott should've mould himself to, not Henry. Ljungberg's clever run and no nonsense attitude combined with Walcott's speed would've devastated any opponents.
But Arsenal had both their PFA and FWA player of the year winners firing on all cylinders in this game, and their second goal probably showed why either deserved to win the accolades. Between their goals and assists, Arsenal's route to the double was fairly easy. Both routinely turned up in the biggest of games that season.
You know you're a good team when you go down to 10 men away from home take the lead and the home team takes off a striker and puts on a midfielder to cope with your ball players.
It was so fun to watch Arsenal back then, love every man on the pitch. The play was mesmerizing and Ashley Cole as instrumental part of the attack up the left, lest we forget. It all unravelled with the youth project 😞
What a Team!!! 10 Men at 0-0, No Veira, No Bergkemp, at Anfield and still get the win. Proppa Defence. Blistering fast attack. Where has our Arsenal gone today???
What character and confidence. Despite being down to 10 men, they were playing to win such was the quality and winning mentality. That's away at anfield. Brilliant.

I was at that match, it was a bad journey home to London. I mean I don't think Arsenal were looking for revenge for the FAC defeat in May but they wanted something, I remember when Pires got away before he squared it, its a goal. GVB was harshly treated for the 2nd yellow as he did not appeal, he just got up.
I always remember saying to my boys lap up every minute of watching arsenal because nothing lasts for ever.we achieved so much with so many dodgy decisions by referees and the media hating ever giving us credit.
I was going to try correcting you there but the typically illiterate way you worded it meant I don't have to because what you wrote basically means that what Arsenal did achieve was thanks to dodgy decisions which makes sense.
