- Nestled in the steep, wooded hillsides of Portland Oregon's Washington Park, the Portland Japanese Garden encompasses 12 acres of trickling streams and meandering walkways, shaded with immaculately tended ornamental trees and flowering plants.
Designed in 1963 by Japanese landscape master Takuma Tono, the Portland Japanese Garden consists of five principle gardens, influenced by Shinto, Buddhist, and Taoist philosophies: the Strolling Pond Garden, the Tea Garden, the Natural garden, the Sand and Stone Garden, and the Flat Garden, with a pavilion gallery for exhibitions and special events. A cultural village and three new garden spaces were added in 2017, designed by architect Kengo Kuma.

This is my Zen spot here in Portland. I come here every chance I get and just step into Zen for hours. I leave refreshed, clear and open minded and relieved. I urge visitors to visit at least once every season to see the spectacular changing colors.

Stunning video, Anthony... It's literally been decades since I've been here. I lived in Portland from 1990-1998. 1995 was the one and only time I visit this gorgeous garden. You can bet the next time I'm in Portland, this will be the first place I go! Thank you for sharing this!
We have a Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park here in SF, and it is beautiful, but NOTHING like this and quite small in comparison.

It's sublime. Do you live in the area? If you go, I would suggest buying an annual membership from their website beforehand. It will let you get in a couple of hours before the Garden opens to the general public.

I see that you posted this in June. Is that when it was filmed? Might make a visit next year.
Thanks for your comment. I shot this on three separate days; two at the end of March and one the first week of June. Different flowers come into bloom at different times, so you just have to watch their website for updates and trust to luck. Also, if you have a membership to the Garden you can visit two hours before it opens to the general public. That's when you see most of the photographers. It's hard to get good footage during normal hours--the place gets pretty busy pretty fast once it opens, even on weekdays.
