I think Zealand made the best argument about handball penalties - arguing that an arm can be away from the body and not cause a penalty when struck encourages players to keep their arm out in order to make themselves bigger. These "ball to hand" decisions must be given as penalties unless the player is genuinely trying to not put their arms in the way. The easiest thing would be to say it's not a penalty only if the part of arm hit is also in contact with their own torso.

To elaborate on the Almere City - Feyenoord example This one, as you said, was ruled offside. But a very similar situation when Feyenoord played against Atlético in the Champions League was actually ruled a goal for Atlético. Very confusing and quite the coincide that Feyenoord was involved in both instances with it turning out to be ruled in the opponent's favor. We also happened to lose that game against Atlético 3 - 2 if I remember correctly, which made it a little more painful.

Anyone remember the Womens World Cup. England v Cameroon. Cameroon totally lost the plot towards the end of the game. But it was purely because they were disallowed a perfectly good goal. The player offside was walking back into her own half and less than 5mm of her heel was in the England half. Surely by walking into your own half you’re now onside, and even at that it was ridiculously miniscule. But Cameroon got slated so badly in the media for losing the plot when in reality they were screwed out of a perfectly legit goal, i think it would’ve made the game 1-1. VAR caused all that nonsense.

I could name atleast 5 right now Haaland’s penalty (4-4) Grealish handball (0-1) Women’s UCL v Barca (entire game) Disallowed goal v villa (2-2) Van dijk on Gallagher no pen (4-1) There’s so many more as well and for so many of these the VAR recording wasn’t even released and they were completely disregarded

I know this was 22/23 season, Liverpool v wolves FA cup. 2-2 in the final minutes of stoppage time wolves had a "winning" goal disallowed by on pitch officials, for a dubious offside, VAR couldn't overrule the decision because at Anfield, one of the top stadiums in European football, VAR couldn't get a camera angle to confirm the decision so they went with on pitch decision. Yet wolves own tactical camera showed there was no offside

I was watching Everton v Forest on Romanian TV, At the end the man who commented the game was saying "this is a different sport, they have different rules and the referee don't know what's a foult or handball" was so funny to hear that but after watch a little more of other leagues I give them credits for that comment. But at the end footbal is footbal and there should be same rules, Footbal was so much better before VAR
