  • Finger push ups are an advanced push ups variation. Here are the risks and benefits involved in doing them. I didn't talk about wrist positioning, elbow angles or shoulder rotation because these variables will change based on the muscles you want to target and your own body/leverages.

    For beginners. Just do knee fingertip pushups. Then, progress to fingertip planks. After that, do slow eccentric fingertip pushups. Finally, actually do fingertip pushups.

      Also you could just do pushups and take away fingers one by one

    I do wall push ups. If I do sets of 20+, I definitely feel it.
    I like Convict Conditioning’s philosophy: Don’t think “can I do a harder variation of this move” and instead think “can I continue to train this movement and benefit from it?” and it’ll make training easier.

    Is there a risk of damaging your fingers in the long term? Because right now i can do about 5 reps on 10 fingers, but im not sure if i should continue as i don't want to end up slowly damaging my fingers

    • @NaturalHypertrophy

      I've ben doing these for years with 0 problem
      There is a risk of injury but in terms of slow degradation I'd say these strengthen the fingers more than they fragilize it

      There is always a risk of injuring yourself during a workout, but you can minimize it by slowly progressing accordingly to your level and doing it correctly, and not ego lifting, and not using momentum but doing them a little bit slower.

    Some people do it with a claw grip and others with straight fingers. I'm a little confused as to which one is better? I want to do this to have strong fingers to prevent injury, so I don't want to do it wrong. but with people saying claw grip is bad, then people saying straight fingers is bad. there is alot of conflicting ideas.

    • @NaturalHypertrophy
      @NaturalHypertrophy  3 роки тому +14

      I personally prefer straight fingers as it stacks the joint and it never caused me any trouble, and unless it feels painful for you I'd advise you do the same

      It's just that the finger angle looked much flatter than when I do it, which is more sort of claw like, but I just wondered if a flatter angle is more beneficial in some way?

    I have double jointed thumbs. Would you still recommend doing this? I am able to perform one set of ten before I notice a grinding sensation in my middle joints. The pain is no issue but it is a strange sensation that does not affect performance in later sets. Just asking in case this is an expected result from the form or if it is a me exclusive.

    Should my fingers be extended or slightly bended? I've been doing them extended, with all the weight being handled by the joints, and them popping for a bit while after. Now that I think about it, it doesn't really sound healthy for my fingers

      Do more pushup volume. Be able to do sets of 50 at least. Do more variations such as Archer pushups to build single arm strength. Finally, get a weight vest and add weighted pushups. Start light, 10 or even 5 lbs, and slowly increase the weight once you can do 20-25 reps per set.

    I do them last, just 10, with a 10kg vest on, I weigh 60kg, it's good for tendon and grip strength, just do 10, push with your mind, use all 5 fingers, you can do it, I can and I have a broken ring finger, so yeah, do 10-15 finger push ups when you finish your push up workout.

      They are riskier than other exercises starting out but they’re fine if you don’t rush through progressions. When I started out I wasn’t tensing my fingers so I would just hurt my tendons. If you do them on your knees to start off and flex your fingers properly you shouldn’t see any danger.
