Granad scrapped this amazing theme in 1980 when football highlights moved to Saturday nights. They rebranded it Match Night and had an awful brass band theme tune. Thankfully after a few weeks off the air owing to a strike - during which time Granada viewers saw London's The Big Match - it returned with Jeff Wayne's Jubilation (the new Big Match theme) as the new theme music
crazyclive they always showed highlights of a midlands game after our north west game, I remember his great fruity voice, always said ‘nothing’ instead of ‘nil’😀
@@darryllharden9141 It was also revived in 1990 with Elton Welsby at the helm though had a different rockier theme. The producers used a bit of the Francis Monkman theme for its Flashback slot.
Love this music 💙🇬🇧 pure nostalgia.
RIP Francis Monkman

Gerry was the regular ITV Granadaland Sector football commentator during the 1970s. Hugh would commentate on ITV Midlands Sector football matches.
Wish someone could tell me where to get that record it's great
How long was this theme was used for the Friday Night preview programme called Kick Off
Probably around from the Late 70's to the Mid 80's I reckon.

@@StuartVallantine Yes, I remember that part also in the programme too!.
Remember the last ever kick off before national presentation took over. There was an extended version of this theme with bits never heared before.
Not the same without the pictures.
