Every time i listen to this tune the Memories of a long Summer in 1986 come flooding back when i was 13 yrs old Playing football until 11pm as it was still light coming home and watching the matches sadly as a Scotsman it was the same old heartache in a World Cup so near yet so far LOL but lovely to hear this tune to bring back the memories

Them were the days swapping panini Stickers for Mexico 86 in the school playgrounds and getting excited seeing favourite hero's pop out of packets or shinies as we called them foil badges of countries. Sat in front of tv with home made fish and chips and a glass of Robinsons orange juice in the long summer watching these amazing matches and Maradonas skills and his controversial hand ball ⚽ which upset me 😔 anyhow were great simple times! I believe it was the keyboard player Rod Argent. He also had a music shop on Denmark Street in London at that time, which was always a fun place to visit, even if I couldn’t afford anything they had for sale!

I was only 4 when this World Cup screened, but this summer I watched all the games via a website and this intro is the best. And just in the last week I managed to purchase a complete Panini sticker book and got an unopened sticker packet on its way :)

I was 12 and playing football 24/7, i hadn't a care in the world plus the sun seemed to always be shining. I got to watch one of the greatest ever footballers single handedly win the world cup that year too. I'm now 45 and wish I could go back and do it all again
One of the most dramatic finals ever in WC-History. Argentina 2-0 in front, then the late equalizing goals by Rummenigge and Völler. The german team had all opportunities to do it in a possible extratime, because they were physically stronger and had the momentum on its side. But in the last regular minutes they take too much risk and were punished by Burruchagas victory goal. In Italy 1990, against Argentina again, Germany did it.
I was 12 in 86 and absolutely loved this theme tune. If the World Cup ever gets back to Mexico in my lifetime, I just hope ITV has the sense to bring back this fantastic theme tune. I'll take a revamp/update even...anything.

Back when football was special and the players were truly giants. Unlike now where the stars just chasing the pay cheques.
The stars than were chasing the pay cheque. That’s why they all played in Seria A. The likes of Platini & Maradona were well played for that time.

The best ITV World Cup theme ever. The first ten seconds of this theme incorpated the new ITV Sport Logo A silver half circle on a White Cloud blue sky background. This was launched by ITV in 1985,fiollwing the axing of ITV"s World of Sport Programme. The logo lasted untill 1990. Disabled UK viewer. GOD BLESS!
