I recently moved to a snowy alpine region. So I sent my old D&D party an invitation to visit during the holiday period. This invitation was sent in the form of a letter written as a quest to defeat a white dragon. So I’m the middle of winter they came and I ran a long weekend long game themed around my new town under the control of a white dragon. The tavern the heroes met in was even the local pub we agreed to meet at for dinner and hammer out last minute game details
love this! im prepping for a fight where the white dragon has only 1 round to mess with the players before she rewinds time (its whole thing in my game) but i was wounding how to make it harder before and the suggestions u made will help so much before hand to slow them down and get them to blow there load before they have to figure out the time puzzle!
Frigid Jest the Alabaster Apocalypse. Honestly, as much as the Jest part perfectly fits me as a person, it's hard to imagine something with that name being considered any kind of apocalypse...
Honestly, they can’t all be winners. Buuuut the backstory could be it was originally a silver dragon who told a rude joke about one of the gods, and was cursed for it?
These are such fun and creative encounters!!! This makes me wonder what I can do to make my campaign as dynamic as these... time for a brainstorming session!
@@dmofmanyfaces I feel like if I had to summarize it, it would be having multiple variables! Such as, combine Dragon with Pirates. Or, combine Wyrmling with Wolves and town. Makes things more dynamic?
As a dm, I let my party try to convince a very young white dragon wyrmling to come with them as a pet. They succeeded, because of course they succeeded. She was being attacked by diseased wolves and the party saved her. Her mother had fallen to the same disease which was demonic in nature. To keep things balanced she is terrified of combat, largely due to almost dying at the fangs of the wolves, and runs and hides at the first sign of real trouble. She’s mostly a cute npc for them to role play with.
Rimera crushes a human skull as they step forward. My Silver Dragon in disguise paladin. "oh you just fucked up, now prepare to meet tiamat in avernus"
@dmofmanyfaces actually how he got his white dragonborn apprentice XD, in this game Rimera was Narmer (in this case me making a joke saying Narmer means Cursed in draconic) ad a life cleric Ancients paladin, train him to be a Vengeance Hexadin
Vinthra, Winter's Herald, white dragon who hibernates during summer with her lair completely frozen over, but breaks open the ice and rampages as soon as winter starts. She rests little until the coming of spring when she returns to her lair and freezes the entrance again. The villages that live in the shadow of her hunting grounds have learned to use her presence declare the seasonal changes almost more than natural phenomenon.
I remember a campaign where my group were in hunts near the peaks. We were there because our reputations were slandered by another group using them in criminal acts against the kings villages. Our search however led us to the worse area, and i fell in the blizzard. When my character came to the blizzard was gone but i was face to face with the oldest white dragon with a corpse riding its back. ( my friends were losing their shit at this reveal of the ancient white dragon and was hilarious. ) Dm said simply that she was debating if i was even worth eating or not, so with a calm demeaner, a nat 20 persuasion roll and charisma check that passes, we had a understanding that felt like lifelong friends speaking our philosophies of life. ( the suspense was thick when I rolled but even i knew fighting was out of question. ) by the time i made my return me and my new friend saved our group from a tpk ambush and froze our Bbeg alive. To this day too, we still visit each other to hang around and fly across the frozen tundras
@dmofmanyfaces I got many stories to share, and this one was me being a drake ranger that recently lost his best friend so it wasn't out of the picture to have this interaction play out beautifully. So when we both spoke, it was just us realizing how much they truly mattered to us despite our standings. She needed a friend just as much as I, who always wished to soar freely in the endless skies, the truest form of freedom. The ironic thing was too was that I role-played a earth genasi who knew only the chains, branding and nothing else more til the group bought my freedom due to my tongue in calming young dragons

Hello, I came upon this video and I enjoyed it, though I’m running a magic less campaign(sci fi so technology) I can use your ideas for dinosaurs. The breath weapon could be an erratic mutation that is radioactively induced and the environments, specifically ice boat were genius. As a fellow DM you understand the reflavoring I’m gonna have to do, as my central planet for my campaign has no permanent ice caps or dragons. As for dragon replacements I have mutation tables for my dinosaurs so that they can get anything between a small debuff- to tweaked mechanic- to becoming a straight up kaiju. I could easily work in a “frost Rex” or something and have it just be the adult ice dragon stat block with no flight. Thank you for the inspiration. I also liked the video, and when I do that I let creators know as I don’t do it often.
I usually get older dragons unique magical equipment (made for them). They would've acquired a lot of things over the years. Lots of dead adventurers leave lots of goodies. And remember, the older the dragon the more tricks. These creatures would know what the party is going to do before they figure it out. You don't survive centuries living in a dangerous world without being able to handle scores of well equipped adventurers. Think about how many people have tried to kill them. This isn't the dragons first rodeo. All of the easily slain dragons died eons ago.
Letting you know, I'm taking that adult white dragon/pirate crew idea. That's golden!
