Thumbnail art is by CRAIG J SPEARING!
Hello! This video is a ranking (my opinion) of the 5 types (arbitrarily assigned by me) of D&D combat setups. This is in no way definitive list or a perfect ranking, but it is a jumping off point for those new to DMing or looking for a change.
Is your ranking different? Am I way off the mark? Feed the algorithm- I mean... leave a comment below. Hope you enjoy!

A Brief Guide to Weapon Mastery | D&D 2024
Переглядів 233Місяць тому
Hello! This video is a quick rundown of the Weapon Mastery System in D&D. I find that Weapon Mastery helps out Martial Characters when it comes to combat. Whenever I play with the 2014 rules, I miss Weapon Mastery. Obviously, the book isn't out yet, so here is a link to the play-test PDF where you can try out Weapon Mastery (page 22): media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/ua/ph-playtest8/gHvtmY...
Hags | Running D&D Monsters
Переглядів 244Місяць тому
Hello! You voted for it! Here it is! I ran a poll on my channel for the next creature in my "How I Run D&D Monsters" series and Hags won by a mile. The first D&D campaign villain I ever ran was a Hag. She was inspired by a horror movie called the "Blair Witch Project". The film left quite an impression on me. I wanted to share that experience with you. This video is really about using film and ...
D&D Monsters Should Offer Deals and Pacts | D&D Topics

Hello! This video is me providing suggestions for how DMs can have their monsters make magical deals with the adventurers. The focus is on inoffensive and table friendly magical deals that newer DMs can implement without disrupting their campaign. The same principles apply to mundane deals too. As always, take whatever you find useful here and run your games however you want! Thanks very much t...
13 Unique Magic Items | D&D Topics
Переглядів 1,3 тис.3 місяці тому
Hello! This video includes 13 homebrew magic items that I made for D&D 5th edition. They are designed for levels 3-5. Each item was designed with a D&D class in mind, but none are tied to specific class (by design). Each should hopefully work with 2014 and 2024 rules. Feel free to use these in your games, and always clear it with your DM before using a random UA-camr's D&D items! Thanks very mu...
White Dragons | Running D&D Monsters

Hello! This video shows how I run white dragons in D&D. I provide four adventure hooks for the four stages of a dragon's lifespan. Crammed in between are tips, tricks, and suggestions. I make videos with own personal tastes in mind. That said, I always encourage viewers to put their own spin on things. Huge shoutout to Habit for the music and the white dragon pencil drawing, my friend Emily for...

Goblins | Running D&D Monsters
Переглядів 12 тис.9 місяців тому
My very first D&D session I ran a simple goblin combat. I was thinking about that encounter recently and reflecting on how I could do better with 10 additional years of experience DMing under my belt. In this video I take on the topic of goblins. Everyone has their own concept of what a goblin is and how they should be run in TTRPGs. Is there a "correct" way to use them in D&D? Your way is prob...

Black Dragons | Running D&D Monsters
Переглядів 32 тис.Рік тому
Hello friend, "Let me show you real power". Or at least, how I run an ancient black dragon. I'll share some of my tips and methods. Thanks for watching. Please like, comment, subscribe, and do a little dance.
I don't care for theater of the mind play but I also think the more abstracted out the game is the more immersive it gets. I find lots of immersion problems with 3d terrain and VTTs.
Personally since I have aphantasia I require some kind of visual aid otherwise I won't be able to keep track of literally anything in combat and will have to start every turn with several questions. largely I don't care what it is were looking at as long at it tells me where everyone is and if there's something that'll stop me from killing them
Thanks for sharing! That accessibility piece is super important and always worth considering
I have taken to using a VTT for in-person games. Special attention must be given to describing vertical spaces. I have found that less detailed maps with a rich verbal description work better for holding verisimilitude high.
You forgot to subtract 20 points for the VTT since it is the least social way to play D&D.
You can make this argument for sure. I think having a VTT in place of a battle mat at the table is the best of both worlds.
I've only ever DM'd through VTT, but I'd love to try making some DIY elements (if only to use up all the foam core I have lying around...) Another great video, and love the new look!
Do it up! And thank you so much 😊
DIGITALLLL @7:08
“Digital, yeah”

Cheap grid paper: Many Christmas paper wrap has an almost 1x1 grid on the back.
We use a TV table connected to a laptop for maps but I also make terrain to put on top of the maps and of course as an insane dm I have around 3k miniatures. It's just the best overall set up I've ever used and it's very easy with all the maps available online now. The terrain I build takes a looong time but it looks good, always gets a big reaction from my players and is a fun and relaxing hobby for me.
@@laughingpanda4395 this is the dream right here
Another excellent video. Always cool getting to see your DIY set-up! The modularity is so enticing
@@asacoleman1284 Thanks! I’ll have to make more soon
I feel like Theater of the mind is the most threatening sounding, but is beter then it seems, for the Price of a dream is a hard line though
@@thegrayquillarc2740 truly a great line
Theater of the mind is how it was played by many since its inception. Its not threatening at all. Hasbro is threatening.
I read that as "ruin combat" for a second.
😆 Hopefully that's not the case
What film?
@@horacioaugustofilho6487 The Witches (1990)
As a dm, I let my party try to convince a very young white dragon wyrmling to come with them as a pet. They succeeded, because of course they succeeded. She was being attacked by diseased wolves and the party saved her. Her mother had fallen to the same disease which was demonic in nature. To keep things balanced she is terrified of combat, largely due to almost dying at the fangs of the wolves, and runs and hides at the first sign of real trouble. She’s mostly a cute npc for them to role play with.
@@davehendren4996 I like this for both balance and story reasons! Basically the party mascot without winning any fights for them.
Ay I was born july 7 and my favorite class is paladin
It’s all coming together!
Frigid Jest the Alabaster Apocalypse. Honestly, as much as the Jest part perfectly fits me as a person, it's hard to imagine something with that name being considered any kind of apocalypse...
Honestly, they can’t all be winners. Buuuut the backstory could be it was originally a silver dragon who told a rude joke about one of the gods, and was cursed for it?
easy, why kill a White Dragon, They threatened the Groups favourite Npc, and we went into Powergame mode to Kill it No one hurts the bean and lives
That chart literally gives me "Geilidon" LOL! The exact same name as Matt Mercer's LOL! That's the first day of spring btw...
Beautiful!
What about Sunder? I want to be able to break and destroy my opponents hand held objects, weapons, shields, and armor.
The designers seem to really shy away from these types of mechanics. The Rogue’s new cunning strike feature at one point let you disarm your enemy, but they have seemingly removed it 🤷♂️
Rimera crushes a human skull as they step forward. My Silver Dragon in disguise paladin. "oh you just fucked up, now prepare to meet tiamat in avernus"
*duel of fates*
@dmofmanyfaces actually how he got his white dragonborn apprentice XD, in this game Rimera was Narmer (in this case me making a joke saying Narmer means Cursed in draconic) ad a life cleric Ancients paladin, train him to be a Vengeance Hexadin
We just had to fight three hags at once in my current campaign, we managed to get through with no one dying AND broke one character's mom's deal with one of them
@@JayJones-iy4zv Well done! We love a win
In a past west marches campaign, we had two specific characters that dealt the most with hags. One had a hag curse him and it was this whole arc dealing with his backstory and how he (a pirate) was being haunted by this hag and cursed to die at sea and all this cool jazz, it was really a compelling story, especially since my character and his were married, so I got to play a decent part in it. The other guy was inexplicably attracted to every hag he came across and wanted to romance them even at the expense of his own life, and we had to make it a point to end the hags before he had the chance to get himself killed 😂 all in good fun though, the player did it as a joke so he never actually got mad about not getting to romance a hag.
These are both amazing 😂
Spontaneous angry mobs are typical of Stage 4 Hag infections. Just how long have the PCs been ignoring (or supporting) the Hag's activities? What hook is presented to a Party when they encounter such a mob as they enter town for the first time?
@@macoppy6571 Well, in the main video I have the Hag stalking people disguised as a giant black bird, but there’s so many plothooks to throw their way.
Winter doom, the bane of summer
Black Dragons are cool especially Cynder and Alduin.
Two of my favourites!
@@dmofmanyfaces Yeah they're cool dragons
So many ideas
@2:03 BAD LUCK BOOTSY!!??
Graze is about to be my new best friend
is the information out somewhere, or was it like a early creator access thing?
Links are in the description!
Sounds like it could work with 5e
Apparently the new players handbook will have rules for porting 2014 5e characters into the new books, but backwards compatibility with these has not been discussed.
i'm still be using 3.5e soooo....
That was my first edition! Super crunchy and fun to play
@@dmofmanyfaces i don't see why i should concern myself with newer editions, but is interesting to check out
A fighter with graze seems like a bane of Wizards. Forget your magearmor and shield spells, because you will take damage and you will roll for concentration!
Hilarious! I hadn’t considered this but you’re totally correct
Love the concept like we see in many houserules, homebrews and even BG3 - hoping it won’t slow things down in combat 🤞🏿- I think it’d be interesting to making infinite cantrips something specific to say warlock instead of just everyone
I hope the rules for certain Warlock Invocations applying to any of their cantrips stick as well!
@@dmofmanyfaces I feel you - sometimes, I wonder if eldritch blast would work better as a class ability, like Divine Smite, you know? Like, imagine if they made the paladin’s divine smite, instead of being a class ability, into a spell… oh no 😞
First to like but hopefully not the last
Beldam Tree Eyes The Pox Spreader!
My current hag npc is a "sun-baked crone", based off of the typically Floridian women who are at least in their late 50s, look like they're in their mid 80s from years of UV damage, yet still dress like they're in their early 20s. (Her bellybutton is visibly pierced, and it is VERY infected.) Now, seal the deal and kiss the toe ring.
Babushka Rotten Maw The Cackling Crone, great. She just needs a person name to go with those titles ahahah.
Really rolls off the tongue haha
Cool What if the javelin misses?
It still returns to your hand. That’s the intention anyway
@@dmofmanyfaces cool
Definitely learned a lot here! So many neat ideas
Awesome! Thank you! 😊
