....and I personally think Whitney didn't sing specific people songs (other female singers) out of respect.... because she knew she would definitely carry it to a whole new unreachable level making you forget about the original. She just had a God giving gift that connected to music like no other!
Leon Russel, the writer of the song, watched Whitney's performance of it and was so moved that he wrote an appreciation letter to Whitney Houston after seeing her welcome home heroes concert.
Her keyboard player later said in an interview about this performance that they decided to improvise and play a kind of "duet" between the keyboard and Whitney's voice.
When I heard this version, I really got the meaning of it. Her interpretation was just perfect. I really got the song after this performance.... Love this version
While I am always amazed when I watch clips of Whitney, it always brings a bit of sadness bec she was gone too soon. Like Michael Jackson, I think she passed away just as it seemed they were getting their careers back on track. Her voice, her talent will forever be missed. We are lucky that there are all these clips floating around to remind us of her greatness.
i live in ny & came across this vid. your reactions, were right on. i couldn't sleep for an hour afterwards. WH was beyond. there are no words. a sax, organ & whitney , that's all it took - to create a masterpiece. ty.
Hello .. Good night. I'm from Brazil. I'm a big fan of Whitney Houston. I think she is the greatest singer who has ever stepped on earth until today. Reacts to her video @ i have nothing live! [billboard 1993]. Congratulations on your channel. I became your fan
That was nothing short of incredible and absolutely mesmerizing! What a treasure we lost when we lost Whitney! Who starts out a song on the upper register of her voice like that??? One who has complete confidence in her voice, Whitney!
This is just another amazing example of why Whitney is the "voice", gold standard, eighth wonder of the world. Here it is she covers a song by Donnie Hathaway and instantly makes it her own. Among other things, her magnetic emotive ability, magical runs, make believe and one of a kind tone, stage presence and legendary control are on display in this performance. I agree with you Kasian that she was dangerous when it comes to her incredible ability to make her covers of other artists' songs her own through her God given ability. Like you, if I were a singer and heard that she was going to cover my hit song, I would be a nervous wreck, because I know she is going to " knock it out of the park"! Also, her inherent charisma and stunningly natural beauty did not hurt, but contributed significantly to her having the total package - something other singers only dreamed of!! As I have said numerous times before, God carefully crafted her " pipes ( vocals)" and gifted them to her. As I have also said before in other comments, she is the most talented and gifted singer/ musician that not only lived, but will ever live - I truly believe this. Let me add that she was not only a singer dxta ordinaire, but an extremely talented musician. This she has demonstrated in several ways including producing music and actually directing backing bands during live performances. In addition, there are instances in which she would volunteer ,even demand adjustments to studio productions. One such case is when she insisted that she wanted horns in the studio recording of " I learned from the best", for which the live version was shot in Germany. Kasian, I would be very happy if you an do a reaction to " In Return ( live)" by Whitney. I think that performance clearly demonstrates her amazing vocal ability. I must also add that I enjoy your reactions, which are hilarious at times, but which demonstrates the emotions Whitney can evoke in us through her incredible talent. Her unmatched head voice coupled with her chocolate coated tone and make believe emotive ability evoke similar reactions from me. The things she can do with that voice and head voice in particular, makes me wonder how can one be so talented. But then I quickly remind myself that she was divinely blessed!! Whitney forever!! Thank you for your unmatched and amazing musical legacy. I will always remember and love you!!
Perfection!!! I never got the song...i had an idea about it, but the meaning of it didn't hit till I heard Whitney's version. Simply the best interpreter of song ever in popular music. She conveys emotion brilliantly
Lol yea and I don’t even think she was trying to be honest Whitney at her prime had more talent in her toenail than the majority of artist out right now. I love your reaction.
That was just freaking amazing, that's the only word I can use, I miss her so much, so much!!!! The ending of that song was so angelic and warm, just beautiful!!!!
Your reactions are priceless! But there is no way I could react to this cuz it makes me cry every time it’s just that good. This has to be in the top 5 vocal performances of all time. She is truly the voice and cannot be matched.
The Donny Hathaway version is terrific too - it’s actually not the original btw - the song was written and originally recorded by Leon Russell, one of greatest piano players in rock and roll history. But Whitney’s versions is so special. Thanks for reacting to it!
I had a coworker who said I know who Whitney Houston is, but she's not very good. I made her pull up her phone and play the Star Spangled Banner. Her jaw dropped to her knees.
First time watching you react. I never seen or heard this Whitney performance. Between her and Luther Vandross when they cover a song they make it their own.
Huh? The original is by the late great Leon Russell; he wrote & recorded it. Many people did covers of it including Donny Hathaway cuz it's such a phenomenal song. This classic Whitney Houston virtuosic performance is an out-of-this-world spiritual experience I tell ya 🙏
Great reaction. “A Song For You” was actually originally from Leon Russell in 1970. It was covered by several singers since, Whitney’s live version being the best, IMHO.
Ok im going on your nerves for literally requesting the same performance over and over again😂. But you have to react to ‚, all the man that I need (live)“ ua-cam.com/video/xmIp8j2cjDQ/v-deo.html There's another great performance of that song at Arsenio Hall...ua-cam.com/video/RcCNp8YWAnw/v-deo.html

I’m going to highly highly recommend you react to Rachel Ferrell live performances...she truly one of the greatest female vocalist of all time, but never gets the credit she deserve...her whistle register and Scatting is beyond worldly....please please check her out 🙏🏾🙏🏾...

Patti Labelle once said "you never want Whitney to sing one of your songs, because you'll never want to sing it again".
I totally agree!❤
Agree 1000%!!
💯💯💯
Heheheh
....and I personally think Whitney didn't sing specific people songs (other female singers) out of respect.... because she knew she would definitely carry it to a whole new unreachable level making you forget about the original.
She just had a God giving gift that connected to music like no other!
Whitney was the greatest voice ever! Show me another singer who can sang like this........no one!
Where did you read/hear about that? I love anecdotes like that.
@@bilalkarah5710 I watched the interview too. It is done by quincy jones and the keyboard player, ms. Beth.
When I heard this version, I really got the meaning of it. Her interpretation was just perfect. I really got the song after this performance.... Love this version
Whitney Houston was a born star. she was a gift from mother Nature
