Hate for electric, yep had this for 10 years of Tesla driving and 3 years of Zero riding and I run 10 gas bikes. For years the mantra was "golf carts, milk floats" will never compete as soon and they win and winning is supposedly what it was all about...........the hate starts. If Stark hit the targets with air cooling thats incredible (the Zero is air coooled, I prefer air cooling, I like the lack of complexity and weight but fast charging is slower/more difficult)
I dunno about this brand but that is definitely true with some of the electric street bikes. Definitely a negative! You buy the bike but they still don't give you everything... ftfs!
Seems like you’ll be able to adjust all your own settings. Sounds like they are going to offer a whole bunch of pre-sets. If Stark or a 3rd party create a extra map inside the app, is it not fair to pay them something for their time? The other manufacturers sell engine upgrades. What’s your time worth to fiddle with creating the perfect map? The big one is the 80HP firmware upgrade. That’s $1,000. Might be what someone was referring to.

Too bad you haven't touched anything on changing oils, filters and all that work that comes with maintenance on ICE. Many people are having fun on Electric because the people on electric are not necessarily coming in with an MX background or even ICE bg like myself actually. I got a really nice area around my house and I always had a 250 in the back of my head so I can have fun in the weekends but never bought it because I knew it could wreck my relationship with the neighbours. This bike will make the sport accessible to many and I'm sure you will see some great champions and riders in the near future. It may be higher in price but you cut down quite a lot with maintenance costs.
Almost pissed myself laughing when the subject of RC cars ( electric ) came up . I do these & 2 - stroke MX motorbicycles ( KTM125 sx 2023 & RM125 1982 ) plus a recent addition ... Surron Storm thingy . Really soft expo on the throttle & close to max on the punch ( capacitor dump mode ) works well on both cars & bikes ; and yup , the Surron can be tweaked just like an RC electric ...
4 strokes aren't really louder, the noise is just more distinct. 2 strokes sound like a weed whipper, so people are more used to tuning it out. I bet the decibel level is comparable, and 2 strokes still violate noise ordinances.
@@JohnHowerton137 over land or water? Lol not trynna argue, but acoustics are dynamic. Certain types of tree branches/leaves will muffle some waves better than others. Also the exhaust plays a big role. Growing up on lakes I would hear two stroke jet skis from miles away, yet never hear the four strokes. Could be louder exhausts and water boxes, environmental factors, or just bigger pistons... Too many factors including the listener. I would have to see actual measurements from a distance to believe they carry farther, not just "I've been riding a long time..."
4 stroke sound definitely carries further - lower frequencies carry further than higher frequencies. Fact. Think of it as UHF Vs VHF Vs HF radio... HF has longer range than VHF which has longer range than UHF.
For motocross I see a point because you dont need huge range and can recharge, but for hard enduro they are far away, few hard hits and this will fell apart...I expect the frame parts to be super expensive... also for the range is quite hard to match FI bikes ok hard enduro style...

@@spirited1puppetmastered917 as an eMoto rider (plenty of videos) your concerns are only a concern because of lack of experience. Will your rides look a litter different? Sure. Will you care because you're having so much damn fun? Almost certainly not. I can't wait to get my Varg. Even if it ended up being only as good as the Alta (extremely unlikely) I would still be extremely happy. Even my Freeride which is basically an overgrown Supermini is a complete riot. Its far less technically efficient than the Varg, heavier, 60% the capacity and I still get 50-70 minutes of MOVING time most rides. The Varg will far exceed that.
Oh l get it, I’ve been following emoto for over 10 years and am currently a 2smoke rider that cant wait for less angry Rosy Odonnels ( granolas and Karens) when l whip by them silently. I just want proven facts about battery run time.
@@spirited1puppetmastered917 it can literally be translated to whatever time you get out of your stock 2 smoker tank. Ride the mainjet in sand? 45 minutes. Ride the pilot jet in single track? Several hours! The Freeride has a 3.88kwh battery, 2.5-ish hours (moving) 19-25 miles roughly for trail riding range. Running non-stop hill climbs, less. The Varg has 5.9(?)kwh 35% more capacity. You’re looking 33 miles at least. Based on Alta rider’s anecdotes, that’s plenty conservative! I know you’re looking for a real test, but it’s relative to the rider. In Pro MX they have to top off their tanks on the gate after a parade lap or risk running out of gas. C-class hero can ride his all day. So how long does the gas last? That’s the answer… 40mins-Hours. The right side wrist matters.
This is the only electric bike I've ever been excited about. It appears to have everything. But after watching a vid of some guy weighing it right out of the box at 260lbs (118kg), I'm not that excited. Yes I am an electric fan just cause it's just a better technology than combustion on many fronts. It's getting there. 260lbs is not impressive at all though. Give it time.
If I can take it to an mx track and ride it for 45 minutes, then charge it for 30 minutes while I rest, and do that over and over all day I would buy one. Now of course you will have to buy a generator to do that, but if it can charge fast enough in that 30 minutes while I am resting and do it all day until dark, I am ok with it. If I can not do that, I would not buy one. And btw, I heard a spare battery cost $7,000, which is more than I would ever pay for a 2nd battery.
We race 90-120 minute hare scrambles. The electric bikes would have too many disadvantages & advantages. It also can't last for an all day trail ride. I don't see how it would be fair to compete in a lites class if you can adjust it to 450F power.
@@donaldfamilyadventures2795 I know the kind of woods ridding I do I constantly work the clutch to help limit wheel spin through rocky wet areas and steep hills that usually you don’t have a run at and are chewed up. @@ryanhayward6030 I see what you’re saying. We ride southern colorado and I know what you mean. Sounds like you should be able to turn down the power and increase the traction control from the phone to adapt. If that’s the case this bike is going to excel in the woods.

Okay Dave, a couple questions. Do you have to charge the stand and then use the 'charged' stand to charge the bike? I believe you said if you could afford one you'd own one. Is that in addition to a conventional bike? Can you adjust the mapping so it changes the type of pull it gives? Can you tune 'pulses' into the final drive to simulate a 4 stroke power delivery versus what seems like would be more like a 250 two stroke? Oh, great job on the review. I know there is much more going into one than people think😉👍
Do you think the sport is going to shift more to the middle class from an affordability point of view at £10k just for the bike! How much to replace the battery pack when it's toast also?
The battery lasts longer than the chassis. My KTM battery is rated to loose only 10% capacity after 850 cycles. Each cycle lasts 1.5 hours roughly. Chassis is rated for about 500 hours. The chassis will be dead long before the battery. It’s going to bring the cost of the sport down… unless tires, chains and sprockets get more expensive. In 5 years you’ll have plenty of used ones on the market that every vet rider and buddy is willing to lose $4k on to upgrade to Varg Model 3 or Honda E model that he doesn’t need.
The battery on my Zero FX retains over 80% capacity after 200,000+ miles. It also has a 5 year warranty. When it does die though it costs about 6k for the battery + installation. It does require much less maintenance though and no fuel, so that makes up for it a bit. If you ride it for 200k miles.... I think you will get your money back over time, but yea much higher initially.
I ride and go to races for the sound and smell! I love my 2 stroke and always will!! The electric bike will not work were i ride and will not work!! Ovef rated in my book!
if it's gonna be racing it needs to stay in it's own class without petrol bikes. letting them race 2 and 4 strokes would just be retarded because of the torque.
Honestly who gives a shit about all the” how it feels” I can answer that without riding it, it’s going to be different.... talk about how durable it is that’s all I care about. Pay more money upfront for a pile of shit is going to sink the company
I understand that there is no need to praise this bike like a god but it seems very weird to sit there and guess some stats when you and maybe no person knows. it just makes for confusion.
@@paulhope3401 nope. Not going to have a top speed disadvantage and they settle in the bumps better. 450 really doesn't have a chance against these things except maybe in sand. That could be the one place (at least until they have a clutch like device). Clutches have advantages there.
@@JohnHowerton137It was a slightly educated guess but I'm still very much a guess from myself... but if you know that for a fact then I doff my hat. Coming from a RC background I'm going by the power/torque curves of brushless motors... max torque from 0rpm but then the power falls off relatively linearly as rpm increases... my Surron also has this characteristic.... you also see it in the EV car world with Teslas outperforming supercars initially but in the final third of their speed envelope... the Supercars close the gap then come back past. Comparing it with a 4 stroke was not the best comparison... a 2 stroker of the same power output might be a better one?
@@paulhope3401 in something like desert racing you're not wrong at all, but lower speeds of MX and this bike being specifically designed for that... not an issue. If the Tesla was geared for top end, it would still win. My Freeride goes flat as hell on top too, but not designed/geared for flat out riding or tracks. Not unlike your Surron, anything under 40mph or within it's design parameters like MTB or single track, even these far lower tech bikes can lay down hard to catch pace. But you already know that. If you watch all the Varg videos out there, you'll see every rider was faster on the Varg vs their preferred 450 and talked about petrol being slow even though most everyone riding was in the 54hp range. I know thats not really what the OG poster was asking, but it's relevant. Your avg dude on a Varg or even a Alta or Freeride can outdrag the harder to control 450. I actually have a short displaying this. I got the jump on a 80yd(?) start every time. Eli or Chase is blowing me away, but not the local yokal. Hopefully Josh Hill can be on one for Straight Rhythm or something and show it off. Crank the power, go like 7" deep into the holeshot device and be a missile off that grate 🤣 Tortelli is supposed to be racing an Italian series or something on it too, so I'm sure he'll get to display the awesomeness there.

Those 500cc 2 strokes are getting hard to find because Kaplan motorcycles has most of them. Lol
Mad props to you Dave for your skill and knowledge around the sport .I have to say that i think i would rather give up mx than ride a twist and go, and in my humble opinion you looked akward on that thing . whats the life expectency of the batteries and cost ? i imagine the batteries are 2 thirds the cost of the whole machine. Thanks for the upload as always
Great review mate, what time do you think it will do down a drag strip?
The Bike I ordered Gray 18 in with the break leavers on the bars . This is a great review the bike is going to be so much fun.
Estimated delivery date?
Are they planning a quick-change battery system?
When is the delivery date?
Best review to date.
I believe it has what it takes to become one of the funniest bike to ride. Once they’ve got all the bugs out it will be the future. And I believe it’s not as expensive to maintain, but that’s just a guess. I think it’s a bike and one we’re all can learn, except maybe little kids, but grown people at all ages can learn to ride this bike with all the different mappings it has for power.
appreciate the insight - question Is will the Varg have any sort of data aQ ability functionality in the system with GPS. To assist in tuning or engine control mapping assistance?
Just a guess... Probably not to start with but as its UI is smartphone based, its at least possible... if the demand was there.
Did they say charging times off a generator would be??
Theyve got a charging stand mate, and talking with tracks to put charge points in.
Exactly what Barry said and the generator world is changing rapidly too
Siemens Emrax e-motors makes a perfect motor for a dirt bike, 10 kilos/22lbs & it puts out 86 kw/115 h.p peak power, & 56 kw/75 h.p. continuous power. 140 nm/ 186 ft lb of torque. These e-motors are the most powerful motors with the best weight to power ratio.
I see the assistants running over to put it on the stand. You should be able to do that on your own, would they let you lift it up? Wondering if its a bear to lift up
So many Reviews and YOUR the first on that talked about charging
Love it or hate it!! That bike is the future
I ordered it 2pm first day in gray WOW bring it im ready
🕊️ GRATITUDE👍 Thank you great channel🎖️ XTRA Excellent SHARE!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

I heard that some of the different power maps will be subscription based can anyone confirm? if, so that would be a bit of a negative
@@JohnHowerton137 Absolutely they should be paid for their time, or for software updates, but it's the perpetuity payment part just to have it that is a negative
@@visionlightlab6094 ok gotcha. That would be lame. Doing that out of the gate would be a huge black eye for them. The thought of subscription anything right now, especially in moto now is infuriating. Look at how F-ed up the TV coverage is!
But hey, before you know it we'll live in utopia and "You will own nothing and be happy." 🤷♂️
@@JohnHowerton137 exactly. anyone with a shred of common sense can realize all the B.S. Is just so the "needful little people" can build a higher castle wall
The sound carries MUCH further.
Yes, awesome bike but….
HOW LONG DOES THE BATTERY REALLY LAST?
Roughly 2 gallons of gas. Seb Tortelli 40 mins. Weekend trail Bob, 4 hours.
@@JohnHowerton137 That sounds awesome but I sure would like to see a third party test and review. I put a deposit on the Stark Varg last October but this info needs to get out before many people will throw down the $$. If this is really true then I'M IN!. Im also wondering about battery durability if being dropped or being ridden hard longterm in the hills. If Stark needs a mountain rider tester ( I'd be happy to be the man) I'm not a pro but Ive been riding aggressively for fun for 30+ years.
Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.....Ef Ev.....Braaaaap!
But this is an mx bike, Designed for motos. I reckon the battery would last about as long as a tank of gas. ?
Hopefully they make a woods version with a “clutch”.
Just curious, why?
@@donaldfamilyadventures2795 I know the kind of woods ridding I do I constantly work the clutch to help limit wheel spin through rocky wet areas and steep hills that usually you don’t have a run at and are chewed up. Also use it constantly to get the front wheel over logs and rocks in a slow controlled manner.
@@ryanhayward6030 I see what you’re saying. We ride southern colorado and I know what you mean. Sounds like you should be able to turn down the power and increase the traction control from the phone to adapt. If that’s the case this bike is going to excel in the woods.
@@donaldfamilyadventures2795 ohh I’m excited for it, the amount of trails around me that have gotten shut down and a lot of it due to noise is insane. I’m sure it’ll just be a learning curve.
@@ryanhayward6030 after riding both emotos and dirt bikes i can tell you that it doesn't work the same. its actually easier without the clutch because all the power is there and all you have to do to regulate it is let off the throttle.
Add a clutch and have lever and foot for rear brake. Maybe an artificial 2 stroke speaker sound but quiter might make it descent.
I need one sm version street legal !!!!!
Buy 2 and you'd never have to stop riding, except to change bikes.
4 strokes were the worst thing that happened to motocross, price went up of everything, and the sound travels further hence more tracks closing,
Bull pucky
Noise? Ur in the pit to get and drink and hearing multiple Generators going off to recharge there bikes is pretty damn noisy and annoying
I'm still waiting for hover bikes to come out.
test it against the ktm freeride and the surron storm bee
No comparison.
A few mistakes by myself in this video. The range is 0 to 300 not 30
You did a really good job on this review man
Okay Dave, a couple questions.
Hyped is the right trem...
Do you think the sport is going to shift more to the middle class from an affordability point of view at £10k just for the bike! How much to replace the battery pack when it's toast also?
Theyll be pricing people out of the market.
THEY USE THE SAME AMOUNT OF FOSSILS. THEY JUST BURN SOMEWHERE ELSE?
They aren't claiming it gets great mileage. They made it very plain that was up to how you rode. Did you even watch the video?
If you hate the thought of this bike.. gas forever etc.... What are your reasons?
test it in the rain
Get your spammers under control.
Two battarys ride all day
You can’t fight the future
Flux Primo looks like such a better bike based on specs...
Just found out 11 month delay
I ride and go to races for the sound and smell! I love my 2 stroke and always will!! The electric bike will not work were i ride and will not work!! Ovef rated in my book!
Whilst l understand the hate, l don't agree with it. As long as they don't stop making 2 & 4 strokes in the near future that is..
The bike costs less than the bikes with engines
if it's gonna be racing it needs to stay in it's own class without petrol bikes. letting them race 2 and 4 strokes would just be retarded because of the torque.
I HOPE THEY SELL LIFE LIKE ENGINE SOUNDS? FOR THE SLEEPING FANS?
Honestly who gives a shit about all the” how it feels” I can answer that without riding it, it’s going to be different.... talk about how durable it is that’s all I care about. Pay more money upfront for a pile of shit is going to sink the company
I think you’ll find that as a whole human population is on a decrease not increase. There’s more deaths compared to births.
I understand that there is no need to praise this bike like a god but it seems very weird to sit there and guess some stats when you and maybe no person knows. it just makes for confusion.
but apart from that it was a good review
Noob comments
come on, lets see it drag race a 450, where does it stand... I'm assuming it would hold it's own. Or may have the "tesla" advantage
Smoke it.
Quicker on most types of tracks... I bet the 450's would catch up somewhat on any really long straights though.... well the 60hp version at least.
Crank the power, go like 7" deep into the holeshot device and be a missile off that grate 🤣 Tortelli is supposed to be racing an Italian series or something on it too, so I'm sure he'll get to display the awesomeness there.
as a trail rider is not interesting bike without a clutch how you go over a log or a rock at the end is will be like a scooter boring bikes I mean .
by going over it. all the power is there. i ride both emotos and dirt bikes and the clutch is harder to go over logs
I’d rather give up than ride one it’s not what mx is about for me
Honestly, this video is the embodiment of how I feel about electric bikes… lots of talk, not much visceral action. Dear trail makers, can we put electric chargers every 1.5 hours in the forests? ICE live forever!
DIRTY BATTERIES AND ACID EVERYWHERE. THEY ARE LAME!
They are as bad to the environment as gas bikes, but this is lighter, faster, more reliable and simpler
They don't use lead acid batteries
