The Acuff House! In the Summer of 1992 I was performing at the Grand Ole Opry House with The Army Soldier Show and we were hanging out on the sidewalk between the backstage of the Opry and Mr Acuffs house and ran into Mr Acuff and he asked us to walk with him to the backstage door...WOW! His vision was nearly gone and he swore my friend was a boy because her hair was so short.
FFW to 2001 and I was moving west with my young family to a new Army assignment and I had no idea Opryland was gone until we arrived for that night's show. My kids were excited that Riders in the Sky were performing and it was Blake Shelton's Opry debut. We were waiting out front before the show and I was walking around with my daughters and I saw a man coming out of what HAD BEEN Mr Acuff's house so I walked over to speak and tell him my story and sort of lament that the Opryland Park was gone and replaced with the mall. He was very kind and in a hurry and later I learned (when he appeared on stage) that he was Pete Fisher, the Opry General Manager! Guess if I was gonna complain about Opryland...sheez
Glad Mr Acuff's house is getting a great usage! Listened to Bill years and years back to 2008 when I finally got to move to Nashville. Congrats on the new digs!
