He is continuing with the museum, isn't he?
" I don't know why they did that, but they did. "
L1E3 is probably my favorite chat..... Remember if I ever start talking about women like Fletcher talks about that poor tank that's not good. 😂
that would be rather embarrassing.....
No dismissive critique of a suspension system will ever be the same again. Gotta bump that MBE up to an OBE or CBE for services to politely assassinating the design choices of engineers ever since they made metal boxes move and shoot
We are gonna miss you Mr Fletcher!
Yes. Yes, we are.
The Tog II video is my go to video for this wonderful man!
@@pampasgrass5176 Going to rewatch right now! 😃 But, damn, if I'm going to miss this chap. 😪 At least we have so much to go back and watch. 😎
Indeed!
Damn straight
"This aerial view was taken by a chap in a helicopter, he couldn't fly by himself he had to have the helicopter." - definitely a favorite.
Its the one which always gets me 😂
Thank God, someone got the bright idea to record all of David's knowledge on camera. So much knowledge of people like David is now missing. You will be sadly missed.
I doubt it's all of his knowledge on these great videos. But yeah ... agree.
I loved how you could open the hatch and fire at people you didn't like!
Or sadly is later edited to fit what certain groups want it to show
The Man, The Moustache, The Legend. You'll be sorely missed!
And the eyebrows! Don't forget the eyebrows! Agreed though, he'll be sorely missed!
My favorite “Fletcherism”, was when he said, “If you disagree, don’t send a message to tell us, no one cares..” I’m paraphrasing, but that was hilarious. Love his knowledge and joy in sharing what he knows. As a former tanker, I appreciate his joy.
Best comment section put down ever
That one was epic! I quickly learnt never to drink a cup of coffee whilst watching his videos!!! 😂
“When I first worked at Bovington there were still Centurions around”. For just a moment I pictured the last of the Roman legions leaving southern England.
I’d just like to express gratitude for the hours of entertainment and education David Fletcher has provided. Truly an inspiration.
He calls a spade a spade and he's not afraid to say if something is garbage. Great and honest man and I'm going to miss him.
honestly we need more people like him.😌
Having seen the Tank Chat's since the beginning, I can't believe it's the end of an era. We all got so used to David's unique presence and looked forward to each new chat.
It is a sad day, but no one deserves to enjoy retirement (finally) as this man. Thank you.
The way David reacted when he was told "23 million views" was touching. You could see the penny drop on the enormity of what he has achieved, even if he still doesn't quite know how it happened.
With your wit and wisdom you've touched a lot of people David. You've created the next generation of enthusiasts, probably launched a few dozen military careers and perhaps sent someone off on the challenge to design the perfect tank which one day will take the field for the British Army.
I thank you. We all do.
That's the thing, he probably STILL doesn't quite know how big he is or how much of an impact he's been on so many people.
Let us take a moment to appreciate the presence of this absolute champion of a man.
Here, here!

Hear, hear......
@@JohnSmith-yv6eq : I'd say both are proper in this case.
@@JohnSmith-yv6eq Ah, yes... of course!

Unfortunately not here..to hear...nor hear here...in the future...
David Fletcher is a national treasure; indeed, a treasure for all humankind. Wonderful combination of deep technical knowledge, humility, humour and basic decency.
Here here!
I’m really going to miss Mr Fletcher’s tank chats, not just for his knowledge but more for him and his personal style.
Thanks so much for all you’ve given us.
I was dreading this day, the end of an era.
Many thanks Mr Fletcher for all you've done for the armour community.
at least we still have his videos!
Me too...but it will be well-earned retirement.
Sad to see him stopping but also thankful and happy as we still have all the videos left. Good luck to the new reloaded tank chats and thanks also to the producers of the chats. Great effort!
A lot of subjects that would otherwise be considered a bit 'dry' could be vastly improved by having their own version of Mr Fletcher to engage the public.
I'm going to miss this bloke more than anyone since Murray Walker.
"He couldn't fly by himself, so he used a helicopter..."
Oh, we are going to miss you, David!! Thanks for all you've done for us..
I hadn't realised it was only 7 years. You have created so many years of fun, fascination and information for so many, that will last for millenia. Stand tall and be proud. Well done that man!
Thanks for the invite over the years. Your service is going to be missed.
The sheer amount of love for David Fletcher expressed by the whole community is staggering. And he truly deserves it! All the best to him in the future!
I hope he sees this ... i doubt a man like him knows the impact he has had. A true gentleman.
His humility belies his brilliance as both historian and stand-up comic. His talent for bringing history to life is what makes his "Chats" fun whether you care about tanks or not. He's a great teacher.
He is a sacred piece of historical knowledge. He will be missed.
Mr fletcher gave me a tour a number of years ago with college, fantastic experience that I cherish the memories of. He’s just one of those guys you can listen to all day as he knows so much and makes it interesting at the same time. Top man I wish him all the best in his future.
Noooo.... so sad to witness this. I LOVED every single episode with Mr. Fletcher, pure joy and a goldmine of knowledge every single one of them
I met David Fletcher in 1990 when he let my young 18 year old self sit in the back office reading all of the original documents about the Panther for a day. I even got to enter the museum an hour early the next day to look around inside the Panther. Fond memories, although nowadays I much prefer the Sherman ;-)
That's awesome, is it really cramped inside or no?
I'm sure he'll never know the number of adults and kids he touched and who will remember him.
@@PsYChOtlC_ShArK I'm 6'3" and the Panther felt quite roomy, almost luxurious.
A couple of years later I tried to drive a Chieftain and was most disappointed that I couldn't fit my knees under the glacis.

“kids he touched”
Say “kids he inspired” next time. ;-)
Every Saturday night for the last few Covid years I'd look up a tank chats. Seeing David Fletcher there explaining a tank to us has been a great pleasure for me and an important part of my life. My greatest thanks to him and all the great crew responsible. I'm so grateful to you all. He's a gem and a very loveable and knowledgeable person.
As soon as he shows up in my life he disappears. Such is life. Tip of the cap in recognition of a real one from across the Atlantic. One of a kind. Happy we saved the videos and have them for the future. Thank you Mr. Fletcher. 👍
All the best in the future, Mr Fletcher. Your talks have been fantastic - informative and humorous in equal measure.
Thank you, sir.
Considering that he “retired” seven years ago, I am still hoping that I will get the chance to run into him at the museum. If not, thanks for all of the great stories and videos.
I will miss Mr. Fletcher a lot. He has a large part in my renewed interest in WW2 history and the engineering behind it.
Thank you David Fletcher for sharing your wealth of knowledge and presenting it in a properly British way. :)
It was an honor and pleasure to have you share what you know. I wish you the best.
At 80 Years old it's astonishing of how outstanding and memorable his work was on YT alone. Hope he enjoys his retirement, but I bet he will appear again at the tank museum
The Legend himself, Tank Chats just won't be the same.
A very happy retirement to you sir.
Thanks Mr. Fletcher. You will be greatly missed.
I do so hope that Mr. Fletcher knows how well he has entertained and educated so many, and I am sure piqued interests in his beloved museum!
He's A NATIONAL TREASURE! A fascinating man behind the fascinating moustache for only the most fascinating tanks! What can I say except Cheers.
Cheers to Mr. David Fletcher for just about everything, Fletcherisms shall always bring a smile to all our faces...!
Not for one minute did I think I would be close to tears when hearing David is stopping Tank Chats. I am crying, happy retirement David!
Yeah, we'll all miss him and his Fletcher'isms terribly.
Mr Fletcher should be held up as a national treasure for all the commonwealth countries and beyond. A true master of the ability to make history interesting.
I'm a bit late but I do miss you and your mustache on the Chats. You're a(n inter)national treasure!
I don’t understand how a man I’ve never met halfway across the world could have made such an impact on my life. Thank you Mr. Fletcher.
I'm a grown man who literally teaches a Military History class and loves tanks; even I teared up at the end. You'll be missed Mr. Fletcher, but your videos will continue to be shared with my students for years to come.
David has been the voice of the Tank Museum, erudite, knowledgeable and totally unique. He will be missed.
I am 60 and have loved anything armor since I was a small boy! I have seen many people come and go from many venues, and can say that David is one of a kind!
Thank you for everything! We will all miss you.
The man. The moustache. The legend. Thanks for everything Mr. Fletcher, and all the best!
David if you read this. Your voice might be weak now, but the impact you made is strong and will always be remembered by your fans. Thank you for the great years. A fan from germany
I’m devastated and humbled by this, what a man a true character. Ever since I was young watching war documentaries and David done bits on them till now he’s been one of the people that inspired a life long fascination with armoured vehicles, may he have a wonderful retirement and the tank museum had better erect a statue in his honour or I’ll be forced to siege the museum in a homemade cardboard tank… be warned
Sad to see David Fletcher go. God bless this man.
Mr. Fletcher will be missed but people like me will continue to go back and revisit him. Thank you Sir for such a frank and enjoyable series.
Thank you Mr. Fletcher for sharing your expertise! What a joy to have had the opportunity to listen to and learn from you.
From the colonies across the pond. We so enjoyed you and your knowledge. If I'm ever in U.K. I hope to buy you dinner or a cup of tea .
GOD BLESS YOU DAVID FLETCHER
An utter legend in the tank community. We will be missing you, Mr.Fletcher.
I never had grandparents, but listening to David was like a grandfather giving you the history about the Tanks. It's a bit sad it's stopping, but i wish you the best and have a good time Mr. Fletcher.
Enjoy retirement, sir. It was a pleasure to have you take us round the museum.
Was an absolute pleasure! Enjoy!
Well this is devastating news. All the best to Mr Fletcher though. Thank you for everything you did for us.
Mr Fletcher is a national treasure. His demeanor and humor are marvelous. You will be missed Sir.
His knowledge, his humor, his gravelly voice, his British character... will be missed. Hello from frigid northern Ontario, Canada.
What a bloke.
Their is an integrity their that you don't get in the modern world.
Enjoy your retirement.
Loved the the stuff you have done.
Godspeed Mr. Fletcher
Going to miss David and his marvelous moustache. All the best this Christmas.
This is understandable but sad nonetheless, I'm not even British but I think David Fletcher is a national treasure. Always so joyful and honest.
So much history he has lived through and taught us about. A great man and I will miss his voice on the tank chats.
I’m sad to see him go but I’m glad that he now gets to enjoy his retirement after all these years. Goodbye, Mr. Fletcher, and I hope whatever you do next will be as fun for you as watching your Tank Chats were for me.
We will miss you mr Fletcher, thank you for all your work and for showing us so much stuff.
Thank you Mr. David Fletcher MBE. It is really quite remarkable, 23 million views and that number will continue to grow. You have been a very good ambassador for your country. Be well, enjoy your retirement.
There's something special about Fletcher's brief chats. I still rewatch them when I see them pop up in the feed or I want to review a certain tank. I also like his honesty about tanks, sometimes even underated vehicles getting their due and being used in innovative ways never intended as well. Glad people thought to record it all as much as we got. Thanks to Roz and Matt as well.
The man, the legend. You will be missed Mr Fletcher, thank you for your service.
A real legend of the history world. In my opinion, a perfect tank commentator. Charming and knowledgeable about everything but also entertaining and downright funny. You can't teach that level of humor and those little stories and just the way he describes things is just so entertaining and interesting. Just a truly wonderful human being. We've been blessed to have him teach us so much and entertain us for countless hours, enjoy your retirement sir!
Tank Chats will not be the same without David Fletcher~ Thank you very much for all the great Tank Chats~
David Fletcher IS my favourite David Fletcher chat. This American guy finds his dry humour wonderful, his phrasing constantly entertaining, and his knowledge encyclopedic. Yes, the tank museum is awesome and I will continue to watch every one of the chats and the specials. Your other people are good, entertaining and knowledgeable. I trust the data presented will be correct interesting and complete. Still, I will from time to time be watching David Fletcher chats for all those good reasons above.
With out a doubt my favourite presenter both humorous and informative , his depth of knowledge is breath-taking and I will miss any new content from him but fortunately he has retired leaving quite a legacy that we can revisit.
Mr. Fletcher! Thank you for your unique sense of humour and amusing videos. You brought so much character to this channel which has trickled down into many communities over the years. We'll miss you. Take it easy, big man! - Odd
Well all miss him Odd, ill have some matches in his favourite Tanks in his Honour
Hey Odd I found your channel because of Mr. Fletcher and tank chats! He is a absolute Legend and so are you!
I remember Mr Fletcher from odd VHS tapes in the 90s about tank battles & he's stayed true to himself the whole time.
Well & truly earned his (second) retirement.
Thank you Mr fletcher, you will be missed!
Thank you Mr. Fletcher, good luck Sir.
I'm sad to see Mr. Fletcher go, but I'm absolutely greatful and I'm proud to say I've seen every single one of tank chats, with or without David and I loved every single one of them but the ones done by Mr. Fletcher have a special place in my heart. I wish all the best for Mr. Fletcher in the future in his well deserved rest. Rest easy, sir!
I rather enjoyed his jabs at militarys on both sides...Long and good health to Mr Fletcher from Texas!
A well earned rest. You have given so much. It is your time, now. Thank you, David.
Mr.Fletcher - I'am 43, since I was a child I loved tanks and stories related to them.Your's amazing comments, presentations, stories - You have bringed that fascination all back to me . I can only wish teachers, guides like You! Best wishes from Poland!
Such a dear, dear person. Beloved and respected. Somehow, I feel Mr. Fletcher will appear in the museum from time to time. His knowledge and kindness are so valuable.
They may have never put a Sir David with you but you will always be the Professor and Lord of tanks
David Fletcher is without a doubt the most pleasant, enjoyable chap to listen to when it comes to chatting about tanks. We'll all miss his sessions before the camera.
Best of luck David,
Toodle-loo from Australia
