i'd play a remaster no problem. Brave fencer musashi is probably one of the games i'd play over from start to finish again, when i don't feel like playing final fantasy's all over again.
I should probably shed light on some important aspects of the development and behind the scenes of Brave Fencer Musashi. While Samurai Legend is directed by the same person behind the first Brave Fencer Musashi, I honestly believe why Samurai Legend was such a departure is because it suffers from the lack of Hironobu Sakaguchi, who started the original concept of the series and was executive producer. Much like Final Fantasy, Samurai Legend kind of lost its direction because Sakaguchi was not on board with the sequel or the company at its time of development. There's also the matter with Yoichi Wada, who was the CEO behind a lot of Square Enix's more controversial era in the 2000s, but the main point is that Musashi was not the same without Sakaguchi. Also, it doesn't help that the original Brave Fencer Musashi was supposed to have a direct sequel where you play as Kojiro. Everyone from the old team kept on pushing for it, but it sadly didn't get the greenlight by the higher ups. Take this from me with a grain of salt, but I think Samurai Legend was a deliberate sabotage, in a good way. Samurai Legend seemed more like an attempt at a reboot than a true sequel, so I think the team did the best thing by killing that endeavor with its tongue in cheek development and design choices. It was one part in respect to Sakaguchi, which wouldn't tarnish his reputation or the original game, one part putting the dying thing out of its misery against Yoichi's bad management, and last but not least one part Nomura probably getting word from Disney to not have competition with Kingdom Hearts and to give everyone on the team a vacation. I still like what Samurai Legend is, I know well what probably went on in the dev room playing it first hand.
I played both games and while I do love Brave Fencer, I feel like there were a ton of QOL improvements in Samurai Legends. Wish all the moves came over from BF though, gunshot was my favorite skill.
The writing in the first game is simply phenomenal. When the steward said "Sir Little Turd", I just can't. I'm firmly in the camp that the second game killed this franchise. There was really nothing special nor charming about it compared to the first game, and I really don't like the artstyle of it as well. The first game was MAGICAL. Everything from the artstyle to the music. Even until today I still go back and listen to some of the soundtracks of the first game and man, it's just so good. There was literally nothing memorable about the second game at all.
Many people agree with you on that. The good thing is being able to stay with the nostalgia of this classic and what you enjoyed from it. Definitely would be nice to bring it back, though, right?
@@GameCircleTv I still replay BFM from time to time actually! Even as I near 30, I still bring out that game sometimes to play through and relive my childhood memories. That's how much I liked it. It's my comfort game. But yes, I would gladly buy a modern port or even a remaster of the first game. Here's to hoping that the franchise did not truly die after the second game...
THIS is the first RPG I ever played, followed by FF8 and then FF9. And so many more, after that but if not for THIS...I don't know that I would have ever known what a J-RPG was. I owe ALL the respect, to Brave Fencer Musashi, at least the first.
while I've yet to play Brave Fencer I did play and really enjoy Samurai Legend. that said the movements was just so stiff and clunky which is super weird give all the games released between BFM and it that I thought they'd refined it so its not like your moving about in ankle deep molasses but I did like how many of the moves you copy were something to access at any time rather than one time at worst and till you need a new ability at best from its PS1 title(carrying princesses then either attacking with tossing them for a quick strike was really funny and a nice bit of identity that was needed in a lot of escort type games). I think if Square Enix improved character and vehicle mini-game movements along with adding some extra side missions and possible sword upgrades(like the earth blade creates spikes around Musashi, the dark blade leaves a damaging mist behind Musashi or something to that effects) aside from the basic katana it would make SLM better. still I would so love a third game, perhaps in a setting where science is fully mixed into the magic with cyborgs, androids and the like paired with golems, familiars as well as others in that line for this Sci-Fi fused Fantasy. the person summoning Musashi this time is a Sorceress using tech to get a better chance to summon with the macguffin being these mystical gem infused drives. he would get move copy abilities that make full use of his mystical nature, physical ability and access to his mechanical gauntlets with the sacred treasures a nice blend of the two games before it
Ah, never finished BFM, but Samurai Legend Musashi...twice! Honestly was designed in a simpler way, so that might've helped. And it's aged awkwardly, though even back then the whole princess carrying the women and then using them to beat up enemies or throwing them in the air briefly felt wrong, lol
Samurai legend musashi was actually considered a failure in terms of sales because peace just didn't like it. Whether it was new players or fans of the original, there just wasn't much appeal. I think it's OK for the time it was made, but the combat and other parts were really repetitive. I honestly want a complete remake of brave fencer musashi. With more areas in the world to explore, more backstory of the original musashi that was mentioned in the game and how the dark wizard/demon lumina was sealed in the sword and why it was forgotten. Maybe more action figures to collect (possibly with some amiibo counterparts if it's released on a nintendo system) and a fully customizable room to put them in. Possibly different costumes for musashi too (some based on other square Enix games) plus quality of life improvements to work with modern controls.
@@zero00044 MSL is what I'd call a hack and slash with only slight variations in how you fight (especially with the maidens, which is weird) It was basically a spiritual sequel anyway, since they changed virtually everything beyond that Musashi was summoned by magical means and all. Yeah, the sequel was terrible. Musashi is like open world before open world, which made it that great. I heard that there was some hack people made to be able to play old games in VR. This game would be sick in a Quest 3, because you would essentially be looking down like a camera. Not sure if you saw the hack for the Ascent, where they made it first person and third person not isometric. Projects like that are really cool. @@GameCircleTv

If they want to redeem themselves, which I’m gonna find it hard for them to do since people like to screw up a good thing. They need to make another brave fencer Musashi video game that’s just like the first one. You can’t be a classic. You have to get the same voices, same plots, actual gameplay, not this video movie filming We see in so many video games nowadays where you don’t even get a chance to even play. he could be a little older, but pretty much the same set up. You would think they would learn from history. I also would have love to see the first video game as a cartoon or movie. This video game had everything. By far brave fencer Musashi is my number one favorite adventure game of all time. I often play it on UA-cam and go to sleep with it so I can dream. Brings back fond memories.
I've played both games and I absolutely hated the reboot. It lacks all the charm of Brave Fencer and the really watered down Musashi's personality. They also did us real dirty with the ending which is just a brief dump of text. I'll never forget the ending of Brave Fencer where the King and Queen come back and slowly realize Musashi is Musashi and has Lumina and that ending where Musashi finally puts back Lumina in it's rightful place. That was epic. Brave Fencer is filled with great moments. Samurai Legend wishes it had a single great moment. So disappointing.
Many people will agree with what you're saying. The reboot was a major letdown, and it definitely affected the series. Just text for an ending!!!! it's like a big middle finger to the fans.
@@GameCircleTv No. Samurai Legend killed any confidence I have in both the idea of a series or on the thought of Square being able to deliver in this day and age. I wouldn't pre-order a new Musashi game. If I were curious in a new game, I'd still have to watch an LP through to make sure it actually had a satisfying ending considering Samurai Legend's stunt. I'd have to ruin the story of the game just to do my due diligence so the combat better be damn good to be worth a 2nd complete romp through the game's story.
Musashi samurai legend ps2 was dope but the fact the camera was inverted and you could not change that, and the voice overs are corny. I think it's sad a great game gets overshadowed by such small things 😊
The ps2 mushashi actually is not a sequal as per the author is a full remake from the ps1. This is why it has same theme but a little different left and right . Must agree w mushashi dude vc a bit sus.
It was a big change up but they wanted to try new development similar to what Kingdom Hearts ended up being. It obviously backfired but sometimes you just never know.
Personally, I never thought the sequel's visuals were that great. It was too noisy, obnoxious, and frankly felt like a parody of itself. From a design perspective, I always preferred the style of the first game, and there's just so much charm and life in designs like at 4:39 compared to the sequel. It almost feels inspired by Studio Ghibli or something. While the sequel is just... Kind of generic fast paced anime style, forgettable. If they were to ever bring this series back, or hell even Threads of Fate, I hope they stick to the original designs.

This game is 🔥🔥🔥🔥. My parents bought me a ps1 with this game! I enjoyed watching my Brother play the whole game! 😂😂😂
You didn't play the whole game as well?
@@GameCircleTv I usually just watch my brother play. But we did finish the whole game! Super good!
@D Money817 Love the family bond and am happy that gaming helps make that possible. That's what is all about.
i'd play a remaster no problem. Brave fencer musashi is probably one of the games i'd play over from start to finish again, when i don't feel like playing final fantasy's all over again.
Did you enjoy both games?
I only enjoyed the first one. The 2nd one felt way different vibe than the first one. Felt like a new game, didn't like the vibe.@@GameCircleTv
@PhinexTV Most people feel the same. What other games do you wish could get a remaster?
This is all sad. Thanks for letting us know.
I played both games and while I do love Brave Fencer, I feel like there were a ton of QOL improvements in Samurai Legends. Wish all the moves came over from BF though, gunshot was my favorite skill.
My old time favorite game in ps one. Hopefully waiting for the remake of this game. BFM is a masterpiece for me
This is nice because the fans are showing how much this game was really loved. Would you prefer a remake or a sequel?
@@GameCircleTv Sequel, I am sick of remakes.
@Scott Tenorman's pubes I actually agree with this. There are too many remakes already. Sequels are the way to go.
Imagine PS5 graphics for a new Musashi 3 game 🔥
Exactly.
Nothing beats classic ...
I agree. It's just not the same anymore. Which other game did you like?
I second that. This is what it's all about. Make sure to check out our other videos maybe youll get more nostalgia. Thanks for the support
Musashi Samurai Legend is literally a huge chunk of my childhood. It hurts to hear it wasn't well received all those years ago 😭
Its a cult classic now 😎
Classic Action RPG with day and night cycle that change villager activity. Back when Square was innovative
No more innovation you think?
I have never met someone other than my aunt who knows about this game
🤣 woh
Hot take; the sequel tanked in part because of the Kuja-esque character design.
@@Ronin969 Most people say that
@@GameCircleTv fair.
THIS is the first RPG I ever played, followed by FF8 and then FF9. And so many more, after that but if not for THIS...I don't know that I would have ever known what a J-RPG was. I owe ALL the respect, to Brave Fencer Musashi, at least the first.
That's a nice first. Mine was FF7, and it just did not stop from there. Which one did you like best Brave, FF8 or FF9?
while I've yet to play Brave Fencer I did play and really enjoy Samurai Legend. that said the movements was just so stiff and clunky which is super weird give all the games released between BFM and it that I thought they'd refined it so its not like your moving about in ankle deep molasses but I did like how many of the moves you copy were something to access at any time rather than one time at worst and till you need a new ability at best from its PS1 title(carrying princesses then either attacking with tossing them for a quick strike was really funny and a nice bit of identity that was needed in a lot of escort type games).
I think if Square Enix improved character and vehicle mini-game movements along with adding some extra side missions and possible sword upgrades(like the earth blade creates spikes around Musashi, the dark blade leaves a damaging mist behind Musashi or something to that effects) aside from the basic katana it would make SLM better.
still I would so love a third game, perhaps in a setting where science is fully mixed into the magic with cyborgs, androids and the like paired with golems, familiars as well as others in that line for this Sci-Fi fused Fantasy. the person summoning Musashi this time is a Sorceress using tech to get a better chance to summon with the macguffin being these mystical gem infused drives. he would get move copy abilities that make full use of his mystical nature, physical ability and access to his mechanical gauntlets with the sacred treasures a nice blend of the two games before it
These ideas are great and they are more than capable of doing this. Would be a nice 3rd game
@@GameCircleTv thank you \*hug*
Ah, never finished BFM, but Samurai Legend Musashi...twice! Honestly was designed in a simpler way, so that might've helped. And it's aged awkwardly, though even back then the whole princess carrying the women and then using them to beat up enemies or throwing them in the air briefly felt wrong, lol
Lol so true.
@@zero00044 MSL is what I'd call a hack and slash with only slight variations in how you fight (especially with the maidens, which is weird)
It was basically a spiritual sequel anyway, since they changed virtually everything beyond that Musashi was summoned by magical means and all. They were on the back of a giant flying whale for Pete's sake, I can't forget that
First time playing Brave Fencer Musashi so far I'm enjoying especially Skullpion can't get that boss theme out of my head, and my head keeps bopping like a bobblehead!!!!!!❤😊

What about a sequel?

One of my favorite games ever. I lover every thing about it. The voice acting and the music. God this game is so good. But I don't think I ever beat it haha even though I played it many times, I always got stuck at the dance, dance rhythm boss part.
Dang, I didnt know they made a sequel. Doesn't look as good haha
It was a very good rpg,i sat and played this game until daybreak the other day...i didn't know there was a sequel.
You're not alone. A lot of people have said they never even heard of it as well. Maybe something to look for and play
Let's be honest, BFM was a $50 FF8 demo that happened to come with a pretty decent bonus game lol 😆
I actually really enjoyed the first BFM but just couldn't get into the sequel for some reason. I had no idea it sold so few copies though. It's really no surprise they discontinued the series.
🤣
this game was SE's answer to Zelda back then.. mannn one of my fav games of all time.
Definitely a good answer to Zelda
It would be awesome if they remade this with a little kid character with more immersive graphics
The first game or just a remake of the whole series?
Will there a Rematered Brave fencer musashi in psn?
There is no info on that yet, but I'm sure that it will be added eventually
i play both game once and its a great game
It is a great game. Would you be cool with a well-made sequel and / or remake?
Still my favorite game
The original?

Exactly, stick to what works. Even if you can not have the original voices, just do what already worked before

@dimension87 Musashi's return will be a big hit
why at last the movie musashi cannot catch princess!?
Would you still like to see the series continued or remade?

Most fans say this. Hopefully they listen
