Thank you very much, I installed z2mqtt devices in the easiest way Is there another way?
Thanks a lot! Finally the honest perspective of somebody who can take the perspective of an amateur who wants a life rather than a home assistant.
Well said.
How do you setup de App to auto switch to cloud? Cant find it anywhere :(
What if "Call Service" is not coming up? When I look for call service I only get "action". Thanks
Thanks, I will definitely use this information later on
IMO home assistant cloud is worth it for most people. It's substantially easier to set up and manage, as many others have said supports the HA developers, and is relatively affordable. The only situation I say otherwise is if the monthly fee is too high or if you just want the experience of setting up a self-managed solution. Not to mention if you don't know what you're doing you could really expose your network.
hi can one use the same setup to send a message to alexa example, send "hello world" to a single dot or to all dots. ??
Aqara Hub M3 support Matter. Does that mean that all devices that also support Matter can connect and be used with the hub?
Great Video I do have a question as I have not yet implemented either this method or the Node Red option you have a video on. So I have disconnected all my Hue Lights from the Hub bridge and have paired them directly into Alexa via Zigbee. If I use the emulated hue that you have shown here, will it duplicate all my hue bulbs (potentially different names but the same device)?
You have control over which devices are exposed using this method so no, it should not duplicate.
3:37 *sigh* regarding the pronunciation of "router" . I've noticed my younger colleagues also use the American pronunciation of "router" too.
I don’t live in the UK and my audience is mostly American.
Thank you! I've been looking for this to control by zigbee/z-wave devices.
Hi Brilliant description. I have been using this for a while now, with no issues. However I added 3 entities, Fan High Fan Medium and Fan Low. These 3 entities are not being broadcast by HA and as such are not detected by Alexa. I have looked for the config/.storage/emulated_hue.ids file with Terminal and it does not exist. Any help would be gratefully received. See Config below: # Emulated Hue. emulated_hue: type: alexa host_ip: 192.168.11.71 listen_port: 80 expose_by_default: false entities: switch.garden: name: "garden" hidden: false switch.kitchenlight_switch: name: "kitchen lights" hidden: false input_boolean.fan_medium: name: "Fan Medium" hidden: false input_boolean.fan_high: name: "Fan High" hidden: false input_boolean.alexabool: name: "trigger" hidden: false input_boolean.fan_low: name: "Fan Low" hidden: false input_boolean.lighten: name: "lighten" hidden: false input_boolean.kitchen_pause: name: "kitchen pause" hidden: false input_boolean.boost_heating: name: "Boost Heating" hidden: false input_boolean.boost_hot_water: name: "Boost Water" hidden: false
it is not bidirectional to see the status of the air conditioner and take advantage of automations
I don’t know how but it always seems to know if my aircon is on or off even if I manually use the remote. So yes, it does appear to work bidirectionally but I can’t explain why that’s the case here.
Hey, it's not working on my zigbee devices.
How does this work if you have ditched your philips hue hub?
This does not require the Philips hue hub. 😊
can you use home assistant as a zigbee hub with an added zigbee dongle ?
Of course. Mine is a glorified zigbee hub with the odd WiFi and Bluetooth device connected as well.
I read through the documentation but i can not get locks to work. Any help or advice?
Well done, can you please give us more options for universal smart hubs that can support Zigbee and thread? Thanks
Thanks. May I ask what is it you’re looking for that isn’t covered by the universal hubs mentioned in the video?
Nice video. What universal smart hubs do you recommend to install nowadays, something that supports Zigbee and thread?
THANKS!! Watched others but this is by far the easiest setup to follow and got my systems linked! Subscribed.
paying for nabu casa too. supports home assistant and basically works flawless. Especially useful if e.g you want to integrate multiple hue bridges and get them controlled with google assistant.
as a noob, i found file editor is really useful tip
I got it working. Alexa has discovered the ZigBee devices I have. However, it can only turn on the lights. When I tell it to turn off, it says "the light is not responding and to check the power supply". Has anyone else had this happen?
Homey is out of the line expensive. There is new one ISG by linknlink. Has Home assistant and their own operating for simple management. Has a display tablet. Can use home assistant when ready or not.
Yolink is another freq. LoRa Only one that works at distance. Inexpensive . And have lots of different devices. Freezer alarms, contact sensor, outdoor motion for driveway, exterior plugs, inside plugs.
Wow! This was so informative! I'm thinking I'll get a aqara m3
But can we show the state of ac on home assistant if i push on for example ?
Yes, it will show the state.
What if I don't have the remote for my device?😅
You will have to look up the infrared code for the device and action. Otherwise you’re probably out of luck.
Wow! I battled with 2 other videos and could not get Alexa to discover the devices. Yours worked first time. Thank you
You’re welcome. Glad it worked out. 💪
Thanks for the tutorial but I encountered an issue. Alexa found the devices I exposed, but when I wanted to turn on/off, it just says server unresponsive.
So I want the opposite I think. I have a device in Alexa that I want to expose in HomeKit. Will this work?
Great tutorial, the scripting menu has changed a bit since this was created, but the concept is the same
Excellent explanation, major kudo's for putting the copy/pastes in the description. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
thanx, great video. light and switches works, but for me the scripts do not get discovered on alexa?
@SmartHomeTheory what about the Alexa Smart Home Skill? In my opinion my Alexa doesn't even try to search for new devices. When I ask to discover devices, Alexa replies right away saying it could not discover any new smart home devices and finally is giving the advice to enable Smart Home skill in the Alexa App. Looks like in order to enable SMART Home Skill an AWS account is needed which is free for the first 12 month only. Do I need Smart Home skill enabled or there is another way to do it? BTW I got the first Alexa edition (echo), don't know if matters or not.
Can someone.help.how to Set up with nginx already running on Port 443?
I have two accounts with NABUCASA and have nothing but trouble with it on my boat. It might be due to the Starlink connection but still working on it.
so, it means that I can control any Wi-Fi device without need to Alexa compatible? and for example when i try to add a Wi-Fi switch to Alexa what should I do? like it can automatically recognize?
Great video. I have been using Emulated Hue to turn on and off lights/switches from Alexa. I have also incorporated input booleans to toggle scripts to run. While this has been ok, you still need to remember to say "turn on" or "turn off" to Alexa. I am interested in switching to node red but if I already have an entity setup in Emulated Hue, how to I switch it over to node red? Do I need to wipe out the emulated hue and clear the Alexa cache?
4 Months later, is Pi 5 compatible? This is my first Pi and my intended use. Didn't know they sorta of start over at each new iteration :)
It appears to be compatible now
Thanks, that saved me lot of time after messing with emulated hue or that damn alexa skill dev panel. work flawlessly
Awesome! Glad to hear it. I’m still using this method myself and it has been rock solid.
my HA (June2024 edition) is running on port 8123 - Docker... I tried both 80 and 8123 - rebooting HA every time after saving the yaml file - no difference... xxx.xxx.x.x:8123 or coures works but xxx.xxx.x.x:8123/api/v2/lights produces an error 404 in the browser.... i.e. nothing
Would you please provide a link to your recommended SSD?
I don’t use an SSD so I can’t recommend one in good conscience, sorry.
Hi, great video. I got a problem qhen using additional commands. Everytime I invoke Alexa i get :"I seems that "device x" is not responding" but the order is executed. Can you help me? Thanks
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it
do you have a solution for RF blaster also ? because i jsut found out many of the chinese aftermarket uses RF instead of IR
Maybe not cheap but Bond makes an RF Blaster, mostly for fan and curtain control.
@@tychay jsut wondering if BOND can be integrated to HA or homekit?
I dont often comment but I really appreciate your easy to follow instructions. Cheers mate!
Hello, how do we connect? I have a smart home product that is looking for experiencers, I would like to make a business cooperation with you:)
This is an informative video. It filled in some blanks for me. I just ordered a Raspberry Pi 5 to be dedicated to Home Assistant. My interest in HA is the ESP32Home add-on.
