They aged Jon too fast...we should have seen him grow with Damian...
It would have been like the odd couple Damian being gloomy and dark and Jon being happy and cheerful. But I think Bendis didn't want to write about a super power 10 year old.

Jon's character has gone downhill since he got aged up by Bendis and I don't think it will ever get back up to the level we had during the Super Sons comics and it really makes me sad
He's still somewhat interesting in the Tom Taylor comics, but I agree that aging him up was a bad decision.

With the Captain America thing Steve is still human just at the highest peak while Jon is literally the equivalent of a god you can not compare the two in terms of the things they can do one can clearly do way more than the other
I honestly hate how they treated Jon, they should have given him time to grow and not force it. Hell they could have had him trained by Clark and "older brother" Conner until he developed further into his own methods while still being in the Super Sons run
I agree and honestly nothing would’ve made me happier but to see my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy as his little 10 year old self and grow up alongside his brother Conner Kent superboy because that would’ve been really awesome and tons of fun.

I feel this can highlight a huge problem. If he was aged up specifically to have him be bisexual, this highlights fetishizing children the same way 3D adult artists use the disclaimer, “all my characters are 18,” just more legally discreet.

I don’t care if now he is aged up and he has a boyfriend but I want Jon and Damian as super sons again, their friendship and their team up was one of the most interesting thing in comics.
They still have the same age difference (3 years, but now Jon is the older), they are both discovering themselves as teenagers and understand what they want to do in life.
Another Super sons series would be a great coming of age story for both of them.
It doesn’t matter if one of them is bi or was aged up. Damian and Jon can still be Super Son, two more mature Super Sons to which many teenagers (and even adult who still don’t know their place in this changing World) can identify or see as friends and companions.

I don't get how being half human would make Jon stronger unless it means he has resistance to kryptonite.
It plays on the (Demi god) trope that a life form made up of two different beings is stronger than both.
possibly, though with his mixed physiology his in take of solar rays may be effected thus making his powers more strong.

Jonathan Samuel Kent is my favorite DC Superhero. Because his character, aged up or young, shares the best qualities of his parents. I do miss young 10 year old Jon, but I’m willing to see where his journey as Superman will go.
It does suck having Jon aged up and making us feel like we've missed out on a ton of character development. I am liking the differences between him and his dad, rescuing a boat of refugees and letting himself be arrested by police is a pretty nice moment for him. I do wish they spent more time building his relationship with Jay they meet in like issue #3 and then by issue #5 it just happens. When they've only met a few times prior to this it makes it feel rushed or that this was done to generate controversy / sales, rather than a genuine push for representation. I hope DC at least continues to print issues and doesn't almost disappear like Kenan Kong.
I still miss my boy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy being his little 10 year old self and going on fun adventures with Damian wayne robin and it drives me insane that we never got a chance to see both characters grow up side by side and going to school because that story is amazing and would be fantastic to explore that, but no instead of getting that we got bullshit by bendis who aged up this great character for his terrible legion of superheroes which sucks because i wanted to see my boy Jon kent and see his journey from his humble beginnings to his childhood to get this point naturally not rush it for garbage at least in my opinion.
Would love to see heros grow up but also love to see the story make sence . Taking Lois's and Clark's son away from them deprives the characters the ability to grow as parents and as people because being a parent and a hero is probably 10 times harder than just being a hero. And that's the main problem with the story they never raise their children. And I agree the Damian Wayne and John Ken storyline is excellent. And can you guys please tell me where Connor Kent is
I liked Jon as a kid and I liked him interacting with Damian. Someone scoffed at the idea of Jon and Damian growing up together that they'd somehow be involved in the bi-sexual angle DC put out there. I believe the comment was a shudder at "woeness" but seriously, now I am upset I don't get the love story of Jon and Damian. There's so much potential lost by not going that route. I have seen fan art where they made the two a couple before but I didn't really pay attention to it because they were kids and I didn't see them as teenagers or young men. Since they've gone that route, I'm bummed I'm going to miss what could have been a great story.

Since we’re here now with Jon i wish the Evil/First? Jon Kent would show up to fight him. Harvest brought him from the future in the new 52 Superboy/teen titans runs. I just think that would be hilarious and make the most sense seeing as nothing really makes since anymore in DC. To this day, I’m still bitter Jon is older. Like if the writers didn’t know how to write a kid and thought it wouldn’t be age appropriate for him to be bisexual or focusing on real world issues over superhero issues. I don’t care if he swings both ways, would’ve made a nice slice of life for Jon discovering his sexuality, it’s more the fact he was introduced so recently and robbed of his childhood innocence and self discovery. A couple of other DC characters are still around their age like Damien, and still have at least a couple of good or decent stories to tell.
I would’ve preferred Jon Kent to be more like the New 52 Superman personality.
Post Crisis Superman is the ideal Superman we all think of but the New 52 character development and personality was a much needed change up

If I were dc, I would be more concerned about people liking their old stuff more than new, and manga selling better than I would making a change only a small fraction of the fan base wanted.

Manga selling more has nothing to with people not liking new stuff, people like new and old stuff but they HAVE to move on with the times as they always have
Eh, the old stuff is incredibly mediocre. The storytelling today is far better than what it was in the past. Really the only older comics from DC that hold up are The New Teen Titans, and even then the character drama is the only part that makes it good. As much as I love Marv Wolfman, Crisis on Infinite Earths is incredibly meh, and the vast majority of events starting with Infinite Crisis and onward are far better in terms of story structure and character development.
Manga selling more doesn't mean comic sales are going down. If you include digital comics, they broke a record for the amount of sales last year.
Comics always cut a lot of books. Their marketing involves releasing 10 new titles (sometimes more or less), and out of those new titles, maybe only 3 will sell. The rest are cancelled after 3-4 issues, and the process starts over again. They've been doing it since the 60's, and it works pretty well.

Yeah but the narrative is putting Jonathan Kent thru is really forced, Every single development, moment, and triumphs feels forced because of how he got here.
The mantle, His Social Justice mission, his sexuality all would have been better excepted had then been allowed to develop naturally of time. This just feels like a better written version of "Bendis" boy from the previous run.

Damian's case would be worse for 2 reasons. One is that he has so many friends, which if they age him up, all of them gets Kathy'd. Two is because of Tim Drake fans' angst on Tim being stuck on his young age; so Damian getting aged up is a slap for them.

@@peronyx5956 They aged him up and skipped tons of character development, essentially making him a different character. Jon is a relatively new character, they should have been able to make a gradual reveal, like they did with Tim Drake. But this feels lazy and forced because they didn't really give any hints or explanation beforehand. Also, I'm just really salty that we lost Super Sons for this.

Maybe they weren't biologically just ate it but they are part human part could Tony and meaning that they aren't actually full clones. Depending on the the continuity Kal-El came into existence as a clothes created by mixing two different Bloodlines so I don't see why Conners come into existence the same way with negate his being Kal-El son even if Kal-El did not expect or attempt to create him

@@joeholtz5395 yes I use Voice Text in my cell phone screen is small. I was saying that maybe they were not biologically created or born. But depending on the continuity kryptonians from kal-el's generation and before were essentially clones created by mixing two Kryptonian bloodlines. Because of this with the Conner Kent clones being part human part Kryptonian I do not see why they could not be considered biological offspring of Kal-El. Even if he did not know that they were being created or seek for them to come into existence they should still count as his children
When I read about that John aged up I though they would age him back, I stopped reading him after that and now I am kinda disapointed that DC didn't aged him back (I thought that the superman run from now was futuristic and not in the current continuity) he deserved to live with all the others and well if they were gonna make him bi there was an obvious choice, Damian, I know it may have caused more anger but it would be more logical than some random dude at the start of the series.

Metropolis is plagued by a brief blackout. What connection does it have to the Toyman?
2. Rob Robbery
The Prankster makes a return after not being seen for awhile. This time he pranks random banks by telling them he’s robbing them only to bring in a bunch of guys named Rob. Superman knows that it’s only a matter of time before he actually strikes.
3. Toys R Pranks
Toyman and Prankster team up to cause havoc across Metropolis.
4. When Pranksters get Toys
Superman must make a choice when the Prankster & Toyman invent a device that threatens to cause an Earthquake in Metropolis.
- Volume 2: The Traveller
5. Mystery Person
The Kent family is surprised by a mysterious man claiming to be an inter dimensional being who warns of a coming danger that will change the dynamic of the Super Family forever.
6. Travel from Infinity
The mysterious Traveller tells his tale to Clark and Lois.
7. What the Traveller Brings
The Traveller shows Lois and Clark footage from the InBetween and demands to see Jonathan. Meanwhile a mysterious being emerges.
8. Danger from Beyond
Superman and son battle the new mysterious being who seems bent on destroying Jon and the Traveller.
9. The Traveller’s Quest
With Jon kidnapped by the villainous Timeless, a weakened Traveller aids Superman and Lois in finding their lost son.
10. The Flow
Lois and Clark use every resource possible to locate and find where Timeless went.

11. Signal from the Future
Using the signal from the future, Lois and Clark go to Dr. Emil Hamilton for help narrowing down where in the future.
12. Flowing Forward
Superman goes through the InBetween in order to flow forward through time. Meanwhile Jonathan fights against Timeless to escape his capture.

Jonathan will need to go through the InBetween in order to get back to the present.

Clark reaches the time where Jon is, but is he too late or is Jon already gone back?

15. Inbetween
Jonathan struggles with himself as he makes his way through the InBetween. Clark faces off against Timeless.

Jonathan is surprised to find himself in the future where his 11 year old self was taken during the time period he was away from home.

Jonathan and his younger self team up in order to reunite with his, their dad?
18. The Zoom Professor
Eobard Thawne reveals himself to be the one responsible for opening up the breach allowing the Traveller and Timeless to enter their reality. Timeless tells Superman why he’s after Jon.

A Fifth Dimensional being calling himself Super-Mite appears before the two Jons claiming to be a big fan. Timeless promises to take Superman to his son.
20. Back to the Future Past
Super-Mite prepares to send both Jonathan and his younger self home as Timeless appears with Superman chained in Kryptonite. With both Timeless and Professor Zoom aka the Reverse-Flash can Jon(s) and his/their father get back to the present safely?

21. Multiplicity of a Jonathan
The battle between Superman, Superboy, Superman Jr, and the Traveller against the might of the Reverse-Flash and Timeless rages on.
22. A Family Meeting
The Kents have a family meeting to discuss what to do now that there are two versions of Jonathan Kent in the present. As this is happening a threatening woman from the future comes looking for Jonathan.
23. The Time Fixer
Emma Locktin is determined to bring 11 year old Jon back to where he came from, Clark, Lois, and older Jon aren’t about to let that happen as tensions between the Time Fixer agent and the Kent Family rise.
24. Battle for a New Future
The Super Family take on an entire organization in order to secure a new future for Jonathan’s younger self.
- Volume 6: Aftermath
25. Variants
Things get strange when variants of Superman and Superboy and even Lois Lane start appearing in Smallville and Metropolis.
26. Revenge of Professor Zoom
Eobard is back for revenge, but there seems something different about him.
27. Two but One
Mr. Mxyzptlk aids the Reverse-Flash in taking down Superman and his family as he continues to cause havoc throughout both of Clark’s homes.

11 year old Jonathan and 18 year old Jonathan discuss what they are to each other.

29. What to Do in a New World
18 year old Jonathan helps his younger self adjust to life in the present day.

Jon finds it difficult to go back to school, not only are there no familiar classmates, or that he’s a boy in a new timeline, but everyone knows he’s the son of Superman.

The Jonathans discuss their problems as the Hobby Robber strikes Smallville.

The idea that clark is detached or alien is contrary to the modern age of comics. Superman stays out of earthly affairs because any political side he supports will win, not unlike the philosophy hiko seijuro tried to impart to the young himura kenshin. Jon kent cant realistically be a democrat or a republican because he could easily and singlehandedly end manmade climate change by removing excess carbon from the atmosphere using his powers and the technobabbles in the fortress.
The writers almost had the right idea by making him bi, but they made him superman and killed any believability that it wasnt just pandering. It wouldve been much more believable and actually interesting if they had shown him as becoming bi when he was young, and how he and his family grew into it. Thats the world's story after all, not just gender activism.

Every fan of Jonathan agrees that aging him up so quickly was one of the worst mistakes to be done to his character. There was no reason to do so and it felt like it threw all of his character we knew from when he was a kid into the trash. Damian, on the other hand, is growing stronger and more beloved because writers are allowing him to grow and mature normally. I think Jon growing up normally would’ve been better. It feels like they aged him up too quickly to replace Superman. Jon has always been his own person and not because of Climate Change or being Bisexual. In DCeased, it was because Jon was able to make decisions his father couldn’t make in a world surrounded by death. Jon earned his right as Superman, because he was allowed to grow and mature normally, and make hard decisions no one else could ever make.

Decent video. But, uh, “Pre-Crisis” Superman? I think you mean pre-Flashpoint. The last we saw of pre-Crisis Supes was in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? Also, as a fan of the post-Crisis/pre-Flashpoint continuity, I’m not sure I would call the New 52 reboot a “great idea.” This led to some leaving comics for a while, including myself (until DC Rebirth occurred, which brought me back).
I think having a temporary reboot like new 52 is a fine idea, but some stuff was just not handled well. So far in New 52 batman i really like it and most stories remained cannon, but for some reason his history was condensed into 5 years?? And we all know superman was not handled the best during this period, although I do like the grant morrison run. I think similar to most eras of comics new 52 was a real mixed bag with some really good stuff, and not so good studf

Superman CAN get involved in real-world issues, like he has done since World War II; but his main cause, after directly saving lives, is to change the hearts and minds of men so they care enough to fight for issues without using the Man of Steel as a crutch.
Holding up protest signs is okay, but staying in the political sphere-- when what matters is leading people into the moral sphere --is what makes your stand (propaganda maybe?) age poorly.
If Jon assumes he's better without any consequences (like becoming a nanny-state dictator), then this story probably won't end well.

Aging him up was an all around shit decision that largely ruined a good character. lgbtq rep, especially with newer characters, should be welcomed with open arms though, so long as it doesnt ruin a character (same applies to hetero heroes in relationships too). Let’s be realistic people the reason they aged him up so fast is that is the only way it could be done. If they aged him normally then they have to age every DC character by the same amount of time. Also all time on this earth would be linear and have to follow that same flow of time…and how it affects stuff like terms of elected officials, sentences for villains and so forth.

I'm gonna say this first before everything, I have no problem with LGBTQ+ characters or LGBTQ+ people. That being said, I wish they gave Jon a different tittle rather than another Superman. Because the Superman name is practically the symbol of Men in pop culture and this Superman being a Bi kinda goes against that.
Also, I prefer to have younger Jon Kent. Why do they need to age him? Just so we can have a different version of Superman? Seriously. Just create new Superhero and Superhero names/titles rather than reusing and passing the same titles over and over and over. How many Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman or Flash do we need? A lot of them are amazing, no doubt about that. But c'mon, it's about time for something new "new" ffs. This passing the torch thing has been used waaay too much already.

If I recall correctly, Superman: Son of Kal-El has Jon with a villain, that being a President of a country (like I get the feeling he wouldn't be an arch-nemesis, more like an antagonist of a major arc) who experiments on people to turn the into superpeople (they don't use the term meta-humans though, not sure why).
Also like video says, the issue where Jon has a male love interest isn't even out (like their relationship is more Superhero and reporter friend).
