- Huge waves. With people risking there lives to get better pictures. Possibly the best 4k quality video on u-tube. Shot by a very wet Alan Wall.
See how this storm compares with the storm that bought down the railway line in 2014. • Dramatic scenes as hug...
Those sea wall designs are doing their job.
It's amazing watching the lip at the top fire the water back towards the sea.
Great engineering
Great vid... Thnx 4 sharing
@@dereton33This sea wall at Dawlish was badly damaged in a storm several years ago, that left a stretch of the railway line dangling in mid air. The people who repaired it then have clearly done a good job.
It’s what we can’t see at the foot of the wall that’s doing engineering magic. That’s the greatest point of weakness.
Many times before the new sea walls were built have I been on a train being battered by waves through Dawlish. New defences are doing a great job!
Yes they are great.
Hope you stayed relatively dry Al 😬👍☺️
Not much but worth it for the views.
@@dereton33 Haha, good man 😃
Looks like the sea defences were finished just in time - what a strong storm to test everything that has been built 🌬🌀☔
It is certainly working well.
Who let that fella in the red coat out of hospital crazy 😮😮
There`s always one.
Small waves.....just big tides & wind.....it's what happens in winter....
Thanks.
It's only Autumn now. Winter starts in December with the Solstice.
looks a bit blustery
Just a breeze.
Looks like you've got the predictable unimpressed wallies in your comments Al. Bring back the days before these people didn't have a platform to show off on.
Never mind sugarpuff that is life today.
Great job on the sea wall.did notice the odd idiot.
Always is.
I’m willing to bet that Dawlish has the most hygienic railway arches in the UK.
A touch crunchy underfoot, perhaps, but definitely clean and well rinsed out. 😂
Great footage of the seawall doing what it was designed to do, it’s a seriously impressive demonstration of civil engineering vs. nature’s raw power.
Totally agree
Sand, rock and water-blasting gets rid of the dog-sh|t, bubble-gum and other assorted icky-goo, ready for the next season.
Flipping Heck !! A good test for the new sea walls. Grew up in Dawlish , grandfather was a driver for GWR in the steam days said they would get soaking wet on the foot plate and be dry buy the time they got to Teignmouth !!!! Thanks to whoever took the pictures.
Thanks John.
That wall might be expensive but I think it just paid for itself!
Also nearly 10 years to build.
Actually quite therapeutic to watch - many thanks for posting 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Therapeutic ??
A rather uneasy watch seeing run of the mill trains passing by so close.
You must have missed the turbulence of those waves.. not quite the word Id use to match the scene lol.
I had to double take if I had left my settings on 2x speed.. but nope, this here sure is wild weather sighting!
@@trulyso734 Yes, as far as I can see there is no material or human damage in this view - and quite amazing that the trains run by. Weather is a beautiful thing.
It is not footage of damages in France or South Coast UK or the 37 sunken boats in Kiel / Lubeck from past months Babet storm.
Amazing video been to Dawlish when Wall was being repaired lovely people lovely place nice to see defences working well❤❤
Yes a great job.
Ive lived here for decades. Weve seen worse. Its just a storm. Lots of stones have been thrown under the viaduct again. Wouldnt want one to hit me but its only the fools who dont know any better that would stand on the wall. on a positive note. The sea washes those dirty old trains odd a treat.
Yes a free wash for them.
Very interesting to see how little sea water makes it onto the railway. The engineers got the design spot on. Still surprised the trains were running, though.
Thanks for posting.
Yes some great engineering.
Risk to life - risk of wet socks
He got those in the end.
TBH It doesn't look as bad as I was expecting though not a good day for the beach.
Maybe not ha ha.
Huge waves?? That’s my usual walk along the south coast during high tide
Ha ha.
British workmen at their very best......the sea shall not prevail!
Well for now.
Nice to see the new sea wall doing it's job and deflecting the sea back out despite a comment on UA-cam by someone questioning the design, there's always one who thinks their an expert I suppose
😂😂
Always is.
They're
Simon Taylor thinks he's a expert too.
Clearly the new sea defences are working well but will need constant attention annually to repair any ingress by the sea
Sure right there mike.
I like it when you say someone risking he’s life for a closer look says the plonker doing the video and there’s an amber warning to stay at home
Thanks for your very kind comments.
@@dereton33 your welcome just saying about risking life fancy going out in that weather
I’m surprised the line is still there, and the trains running!
The new sea wall is working great, normally there would have been no trains.
@@dereton33you just know every kid on that train has their noses pressed up against the window - well I'm 57 and I would! 😊
A very angry sea today!😅
Sure is.
Used to walk between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish as a kid there was part of the wall that had no railings used to be terrified walking it, is it still the same ?
No all redone now.
From Coastguards to the Warren there is still no railings or wall to stop anyone falling off. That bit if the wall, apart from where it was completely washed away in 2014 has not been touched, although after last week, it might now be on the list for further replacement. The new bits seem to have stood the test of the storms so far well, doing exactly what it was designed to do.
Don't you just love Dawlish on a windy day ❤
Lovely.
Once again Devon thanks Brunel for putting the line where passengers can look at the pretty view
No problem 👍 What a great engineer.
Seems that train driver didn’t get the memo …. 😮
But it`s not a strike day.
It's good those walls were replaced
Sure was.
Hang in there Dawlish, you guys have seen worse, those walls are doing very well. Fingers crossed for no flooding but have to say its a beautiful thing. Great footage Alan thank you.
Fingers crossed! We are al ok.
you still get the flooding or did you not read the news a few weeks back where dawlish was flooded quite badly
I was walking along that wall on Sunday after a trip to Teignmouth and it was pretty rough then but this is much worse.
Just a bit ha ha.
The recurves are doing an excellent job in what is, a major storm! Brilliant engineering.
Sure is.
Was on the train many years ago omg the spray from the sea 🌊 was scary
I guess it was today too.
I could smell that through my monitor.
Lovely.
Love how the wall uses the energy of the waves to propel them back to seaward.
Great to see it in action.
I have seen worse at Dawlish.
I have the original video from 2014 that is much worse.
Thank god they rebuilt it all.
Right on.
That looks a bit different from when we visited in June and sat outside the cafes near the front.
Yes they finished the station
Used to holiday here every year, will always hold a special place in my heart. Hope to visit again soon, hopefully not in weather like this
Happy holidays!
Same here, used to drive down from East Yorkshire nearly every year, never saw waves like this…
wow please stay safe
Will do Mango.
That'll blow the seagulls off your roof
Bring it on.
Why is is the waves pink/red?
The brook is running into the sea.
Because the rock and sand here is red, new red sandstone.
There is always one. we had a storm a while ago, people was watching the massive waves suddenly a car drove down the slipway and whoomph wave right over , oh my car wont start.
The invincibles ha ha.
Loved the black swans in Dawlish. Happy memories for me and my 3 girls now in their 50's
They are still here.
Brilliant! Any chance I could freeze & add some of the Railway & train shots too my Railway & storm
Album on Facebook if I credit you? Please.
No problem, all yours.
@@dereton33 aww thanku. We often visit dawlish. Love watching Trains. Love the Torbey Express too when it visits. We often chase it from Weston- to kingswere.
Credit to the engineers and workers who put this together.
Superb job.
I K B made that railway They said running along the coast was so much cheaper than going inland 😳😳😳😳
Humm .
I think I can see why nobody seems to be chancing a walk by the water's edge in a mini skirt. One of those waves bursting underneath would really make your eyes pop out!
Making a splash eh.
@@dereton33 ... in the local papers at least!
This storm is now raging in the coastal part of the Netherlands. I'm residing in the province of Friesland and narrowly escaping the brunt of the storm but there is still a hard wind. In France more than a million people are affected by major power cuts.....
Some storm.
Thanks sea wall doing its job, did notice that at the beginning of the Video 2:00 some of the corking (if that's what it's called) has been taken out from between the blocks. Bottom left corner.
Yes I didn`t notice that.
its called caulking it made of rubber ,obvious its not standing up to power of the waves ,needs to be sorted out otherwise water getting between the joints will eventually cause failure of the defences
Good gravy..."With people risking there lives to get better pictures"???? A little proofreading and spellcheck, please. That said, may all those in the path of this storm stay safe, and bless the rescue workers for risking THEIR lives to help...
A bit picky there I think.
Pleased to see the repair work done to Dawlish by Network rail was successful in preventing further damage.
network rail never did the work. Bam construction did
Well I guess it was on there behalf.
wow,the size of some of the waves. Also how brown some of them were, with wipping up the sand.Think how much worse it could have been if the new wall was not there.
Yes much worse.
All this work has only delayed the inevitable an inland route.
.
Maybe.
I was just going to ask whether GWR had suspended the rail services then at 0:57 I see a train coming into the station MADNESS!
Brilliant video though and good to see that the new sea defenses are standing up to the battering.
Yes great isnt it.
Brilliant defences now. Shame they didnt spend another few quid and paint the railway arches.
They do look a bit yuk.
Stay safe
Thanks lauren.
😂😂😂 At last we have something to stop the boat invasion.
Yeah its called winter.
Never thought of that.
Thank you for bringing the storm to life. I am about 40 miles north of Brighton and we escaped the worst of it stay safe and thanks.
Will do. All the best.
they think thats bad?? I have surfed bigger waves (on a beach) in wales on a calm day.
you would just get juiced trying to surf there...
Bring em on.
I find it incredible that air in motion, which is all that wind is, has so much power that it can move water like this, which is really heavy.
1m3 of air weighs approximately 1.3kg. When thats moving at 100mph it gives a noticeable smack to the face!
He never once said Zionist lobbyists but he never does mention the facts , because the truth is anti Semitic .
It did mine. Ha ha
It can uproot huge oak trees too!
What about humidity?@@AlexLR
Is this what they call a "black Swan event"?
Ha ha.
They are small waves being deflected up and backwards. The shape of the walls are designed to do that. The wind direction is West North Westerly so offshore winds unlike the North coast which are onshore and huge. You will be quoting “climate change next”.
Yes north coast worse I think.
Really good footage, thank you. 😮
Thanks for watching
That looks familiar. Have you posted this clip before some time ago?
About 9 years ago yes Cliff. Ha ha.
Magnifique vidéo et bonne journée de la part d'une bretonne de Quimper de la Cornouaille bretonne
Thank you.
Think the sea wall has probably saved Dawlsh.🎉😊
Sure has.
Omg! This is proof of global warming!
Could be.
Very surprised that trains still run on this section of track in the UK. That's what I call service to the traveller. Have forwarded the Link to the Dutch NS , what a shame to take trains out of service in the Netherlands.
Only thing that stops our trains are strikes, ha ha.
Nothing unusual.
Just a normal day in Dawlish.
Absolutely beautiful. Sitting here. In my nice dry front room.
Enjoy!
I live in Exeter the storm didn’t seem too bad here although bad enough .the waves are really frightening .
Yes always a bit scary.
Was there in August lovely weather. A few waves in high tide, lovely weather. 😊
Not August. June and Septemer.
the ocean is huge :/
It sure is.
I hope everyone is safe there @@dereton33 :)
the ocean is scary
How long will the new concrete sea wall last though. The original stone wall lasted over 100 years.
That remains to be seen. Guess I wont be around to let you know.
On confirme à Quimper on a pas beaucoup dormi par Toutatix
Thanks
Vous êtes d'où
bit over the top its not really that bad 🤣🤣
True ! just nature doin wot it does
Quite normal then.
Aww sweage Water look wat the water company have done to your water sweage everywere
Lovely and brown.
HAARP order out of chaos.. See you all in the smart cities folks. Wakey.wakey
Lost me there?
They have 6 ways from Sunday of coming after you.. Hmm.
Who?
Fantastic engineering.
The sea wall is certainly doing it’s job
Sure is.
I used to think that new footbridge was too ugly. Now it looks like it fits well with the Sea Wall. And just like Soviet or 1970s brutalist architecture, it's not pretty but really damn practical.
Massive improvement I think.
you think after the millions spent on sea defences they could have repainted the bridge
Yes I agree looks alfull.
so is your spelling LOL@@dereton33
Action on a plan B might be worth a revisit, in the coming decade..
Certainly an idea.
The train drivers must be so thankful for the new design of the sea wall.
I am sure they are.
Jack from Bam should watch your video, as some of the seals between the top concrete block on the sea wall are already coming loose and swinging in the waves.
He is welcome to take a look.
Good fun just NEVER turn your back on the sea!
Too true.
My Nana’s ashes were sprinkled on the beach here. I bet she would have loved to see this.
I am sure she was looking down.
More comments and views than you've had in ages 😊
Sure is Terry. Guess it`s not so boaring as that old plumbing stuff. Ha ha.
The new seawall are doing a great job I see
Just great.
this is just the tip of the global warming iceberg
Could be.
I think when you show the sea is to mind the fish. I hope there was no damage with this storm to anyone. No human lives in water . The fish lives in the water so i can not see the waves doing any harm to the fish they living under the water. but thanks for showing us the waves.
Right on.
Ah monkey 🙊 rock is still OK. Brilliant
It still stands.
looks like the coastal defences on the railway line worked
Certainly have.
Its raining in England so it must be global warming.
Ha ha.
Good to see something in this country works ref: the sea walls.
Good as gold.
Turn the tap off Dereton! best wishes to all
Ha ha thanks mate.
where are the 80mph gusts? nobody falling over
I gussed they got it wrong
The new seawall seems to be doing a good job!
Sure is.
