"I've tried my best not to invent a word of dialogue." wrote Graham Greene in "The Third Man," - a Master of inventing wholly fictional dialogue. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Mason was divine. Heavenly to listen to that fabulous voice again. The book however, is hard to follow, jumping as it does, back and forth in time. Also -too many K characters gets confusing. Kurtz, Kraben, Kur, Kuhler, who's who? Disjointed and often hard to know who's speaking, and the transitions between locations and scenes are vague and sometimes not even made apparent. Film is better, story -wise. The endings are different, strangely.
An unassuming, yet deep and powerful voice. His style of reading for this project feels a little too unattached. As if he was reading it for the first time. He doesn't seem to know when to pause, or highlight specific aspects for dramatic effect. Pity... as his vocal talents were legendary.
Thank you for sharing! This is such a treat. Much appreciated.

Now that's a nice voice to listen to. It would have been nice to listen to Alec Guinness read the tie-in novel for Star Wars :-)
Do you have The Lost World Read by James Mason?.
Are all four parts here? Is it abridged?
