    Very insightful info at the 6:30 mark. One MUST plan on sacrificing a few components while setting up. It's just a fact of life.

    I just got my xl750 I never reloaded before at all this is all new to me.
    I would really like to see a video of the powder measure mechanical interlock an what it's supposed to look like when it's properly adjusted

    I have pretty much watched all your videos on the 750. I purchased it and love it. I have had the 650 for years and just couldn’t justify buying a new machine just for the priming system. I am so glad I did it. This machine is incredible! I now have one set up for processing brass and one for loading. I know you don’t like to do that however, I like to take the time to process my brass.

    Thank you for this video. I'm new to reloading and was having an issue with powder feed as I get my 750 setup and you pointed me straight to what I was doing wrong. Thanks!

    So, I suspect something is wrong with your calipers or Dillon setup. I ran a case through my 750 a total of 100 times and the case length and bell diameter did not change by even 0.001”. This makes sense if you think about it. The shell plate only moves so far...so the cartridge simply cannot continue to bell and shorten. That would require the shell plate traveling higher and higher, which is physically impossible.

      This is what I was thinking, as well. It shouldn't matter how many times you run it through, the die is set for the height and doesn't move.

    Just bought a secondhand XL650 and even though i'm aware of the differences between the 650 and 750, i think a lot of your info can be relevant for the 650. Anyways, it's nice to get to know the inns and outs of the Dillon system :-) Subscribed and liked!

    Have you chronographed your loads to see how consistent they are (fps)? I just set up my xl750 and ran 12 .45ACP with 6.1gn Unique under a Bayou 230gn RN. Most of them were between 889-903 FPS, but I had one that was 933. Practically I don’t think it matters, but the internal ballistics of why drives me crazy. Very helpful video. This is my first multistage press (I have been using a single stage rcbs for years), and this video was very helpful. Where are you out of? Thanks again.

    I have a question Highboy?
    What if you were to remove the depriming pin and resize every case first during calibration of powder drop?

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  4 роки тому +3

      Well actually, I just removed my decap pin I can resize each case after it has been belled. A viewer hinted me to do it and it works pretty good. Highboy

    If the powder measure is any good (and properly adjusted) it should not be sensitive to a few thousandths of case length.

    • @76Highboy
      @76Highboy  4 роки тому +2

      Except it is sensitive by about 0.02 grains on a belled case. The powder bar is activated by case height and that case height makes a difference. Highboy

      The failsafe rod pulls the cam pass the locking lobe then the spring on the powder bar returns the powder bar back to its full stop position and grabs the next load. Once the cam is past the lobe the position of the lever is not critical for the charge amount.
      Likewise, on the reverse there should always be more than enough stroke on the powder bar to fully empty the charge. Case height variation must not determine the charge.
      On my XL750 the failsafe rod was binding on the cam and needed to be adjusted by getting closer to 90’ when inserted in the cam. Also, there were lots of burrs on the cam and plate when the slot and hole were punched.
      Dillon could have done a better job of finish & fitting.
      Otherwise, a pretty good setup, safe and foolproof.

      So, it’s a combination of what he is demonstrating and setting the tension spring on the failsafe bar and ensuring there is no binding of the mechanism. I.e. the powder bar must return to its full stop position each time.

    I just assumed it was variability in the powder measure. Tossing my stash of setup cases now. Thanks for explanation perfect.
