I only saw The Last Duel because I'll see anything with Adam Driver and was so surprised how good it was, was very disheartening that it was only me and my two friends in the theatre like 😔
there are literally 4-5 negative reviews about Gaga! mostly from people who can be traced to never liking her and tweeting hate at her, so I’m inclined not to take their review seriously! bias is a real thing ppl ;) Also, I think some of the negative is being amplified, but it is literally one circle of people who are harping on it, but everything seems to be mixed-positive, but like nothing that we didn’t expect. I think the only thing that was unexpected is that the editing sucks and maybe the costumes aren’t getting as much praise as well as the screenplay not being great? But literally 1-2 people have called Gaga bad, and no lie, they have trash talked her for years, and one as recently as 2018.
If Vice and Bohemian Rhapsody got in for Best Picture I honestly feel anything is possible. I may still keep it in but have it on the very bottom. Sad if this gets in and not The Last Duel which will be the significantly better movie.
Hell Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close made it in despite NO one liking and no other major processors nominating it for anything Look with requirement 10 nominations, and most academy members not having time to watch most nominees I could see it making it, We must NEVER forget how powerful and influential the FYC campaign is.
I remember When Jojo Rabbit had mixed reactions then when it came out it hit like an 80% when reviews seemed more mixed to like a 60% so Gucci could surprise. It seems it might be leaning more like Vice though. I think Gaga going to oscars though

I think majority of reviews are positive and its an entertaining film, so i will be seeing this. i think RT is high 60s - mid 70s and will struggle on MC to scrape 60 as you both said.

“House Of Gucci” and “Mass” have been way overestimated in the Oscar race. From what we’ve seen, I think it’s crazy to imagine in a lineup where 10 Films get in that “Spencer” and “The French Dispatch” don’t make the cut. Assuming we have a strong few months ahead of us, this could change.
i like that you mention the french dispatch. Everybody was hyped for it last year. But suddenly nobody talks about it anymore and it's out of the race for a huge majority of the people. I LOVED it and thought it was better than the grand budapest hotel, which DID made the cut for a nomination. I will keep the french dispatch on my predictions list til the (maybe bitter) end.

This is basically how I saw House of Gucci. It was four films. Jeremy Irons thought he was doing Phantom Thread. Pacino thought he was doing Godfather. Driver thought he was in an earnest, straight forward, grounded drama. Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, and Selma Hayek all believed they were doing a black comedy akin to the Wolf of Wall Street.
House Of Gucci will probably not win an Oscar for its acting but the strongest category for this movie to win is Best Makeup and Hairstyling. I mean look at Jared Leto and Jeremy Irons' makeup tho. That seems like Oscar worthy

From that first trailer it was pretty obvious what this movie was going to be. Last Duel blew my duck off so I’m still amped to see what Ridley Scott has in his bag of tricks for his 2nd movie of the year.
I will keep it in my best picture lineup for now, but it's definitely a coin flip at this point. We'll have to see if some of this other contenders rise or fall.

@@nin1379 I’m looking at reviewers and from that I can see the people who are reviewing the movie negatively are Princess Diana fans unhappy with her portrayal which is to be expected. The only time Gaga fans have ever review bombed a movie was venom, that never happened with the wife and it certainly, at least not yet, isn’t happening with Spencer. His last movie Jackie also has a pretty low audience score compared to the critical reception with the audience score being 60% and the critics score being in the high eighties. His movies are often not well received by the public and I see more evidence of that than I do Gaga fans rallying to review bomb.

I just watched a screening of the movie, I thought the movie was pretty entertaining, I love Al Pacino and Jared Leto characters, I thought Lady gaga did a decent job, Surprisingly Adam Driver just did ok, But like I mentioned pretty entertaining movie, I would rate it 3.5/5
That's a shame. I was really hoping for this movie to be fantastic. Guess well have to see for ourselves when it comes out. Still think it might sneak in there at the end of the best picture list if the people who like it like it enough
It's a pretty good movie...but a pretty regular biopic...not oscar material imao. Not a 'blast'...not 'high camp'...it's reasonably interesting...but not fantastic...not a 'mess'. Maybe a 6.5 out of 10/but just my opinion.

Another movie that's two and a half hours! Why is bum numbing the new movie norm? Trim this sucker, tighten it up, clean up some of the flaws and maybe there's a better movie hiding in there.

Belfast will absolutely be winning if I had to guess at this point. I heard the score and the Haim girl are extremely oscar worthy though. Didn't read much about the direction or the film overall yet. Looking forward to seeing their video on it soon.

GaGa is pretty good...but I wouldn't say 'great' or oscar-level performance or anything. That's just hype.

MGM embargo is studio policy. Each of their films this year has had their embargo lifted two days before its release.

although i think gaga looks bad from the trailers, shes definetly in the race. she has narrative because shes lady fucking gaga and shes talking a lot about her "method acting" for her movie and people are buying it. will get out maybe only because the competition is strong
Another movie that's two and a half hours! Why is bum numbing the new movie norm? Trim this sucker, tighten it up, clean up some of the flaws and maybe there's a better movie hiding in there.

I think I called it a while back but just to keep it fresh, I'm calling that if this movie gets nominated, it'll only get Actress (Gaga), Supporting Actor (Leto), and Makeup (i.e. what i call the bombshell treatment)

Belfast will absolutely be winning if I had to guess at this point. I heard the score and the Haim girl are extremely oscar worthy though. Didn't read much about the direction or the film overall yet. Looking forward to seeing their video on it soon.

I don’t like her acting, I think her last film worked because she basically played herself..this trailer looks horrible, and the hole “gucci” theme with the weird accent is lame and cheesy (just my opinion)
