Have to say I'm impressed that the other drivers are actually moving to the side. I've watched several response video's where people don't move over or try to beat the truck through an intersection.
Amazing siren use. Love the horn use as well. People heard that siren, stopped and pulled over. Keep pumping that q my friend. Hope to see more like this. Plus he used that much q since there were several hundred cars on the road. Safty first man.
As a retired EVOC Instructor, letting the siren cycle works a whole lot better. Leaving it at hi pitch does nothing but burn out the motor brushes faster and you can actually loose the hi pitch after a while in ambient noise. A lot of car drivers have reported, "They never heard the siren" Let the Q cycle up and down to be most effective in moving traffic.
+aussiefirie I travel the roads a lot and I find it so frustrating when in spite of the pretty lights, I still cannot hear the siren. It is way too high in pitch. It never use to be like that. So that is why I would love to see the Q siren introduced into Australia.
+Lakes Shore if you can't hear the sirens, either turn your music down in the car or get your hearing checked. have been at Central train station in Sydney and managed to hear City of Sydney station and Darlinghurst station turn out with all the noise of trains, people and traffic
+aussiefirie I do have a hearing impairment now, a birth defect and I wear a hearing device now. As for the music comment, I will ignore that as it is not worth getting into an argument about what I do or don't do. So you can hear in Central Sydney, goodo for you. I live in Adelaide, and I am talking about Suburban areas and country areas. I still stand by and will encourage our State Government, to introduce the Q sirens in the near future. And what's more, they are interested in the idea. ,
These drivers r doing an excellent job on pulling over 4 them so they don't have 2 go against traffic 2 go around them I give props 2 the vehicles that took upon them selves 2 safely run the red light and move over good job drives showing respect
If the Officer on this rig would have taken his foot off of the "Q" and put it up the drivers BUTT for all of those red lights he busted on the way, the likelyhood of having an accident at those intersections would have been greatly reduced. You guys need to understand that Red Lights and Sirens DO NOT GIVE YOU the right to bust Red Lights at intersections. I am sure those riding at your mercy would appreciate that. Stay Safe out there!!
I can't believe they waited that long for that person. For my company in pa if you aren't on the truck the first time we pull out you aren't on it. Lol
I am not going to armchair the response or sirens. I watch alot of responding videos. And I must say this community should be applauded for yeilding to the responding truck.
I was getting upset at all the comments regarding his Q siren, I mean come on, how many armchair quarterbacks on siren pattern etiquette are there, until I actually watched the video. All I'm saying is from now on, I am going to watch videos first, read comments second, lol. before I open my mouth. I see what everyones talking about.
huhh? I don't know which FD in Germany you talk about, but many fire trucks do have several different sirens: the air driven martin horn, the electronic siren, some additionally have the high-pitched electronic siren. And for the normal electronic siren there are also the different modes like city mode, countryside mode and martin horn simulation mode - when you count that together you should get more than one switch :)
To everybody bashing the officer's use of the Q, theoretically, you're correct about pitch and tone changes being more effective, but that is for normal / light traffic, not rush hour heavy traffic. Notice he was only "Screaming" the Q through mostly intersections, interchanges, and merge ramps. The addition of the air horn being used frequently while the Q was held down, just proved the effectiveness of his technique. Stop being a backseat officer and let the man run his truck. Point blank.
Its's amazing to me how many of you whine about the siren.... 300 guys die a year doing this and your talking about sirens... when enroute the officer is doing the sizeup who do we have enroute? what part of town is it in? who do I have on the truck? two probies I better keep an extra eye on them... come on guys!! he doesnt need to be worried if people are bothered by the siren they should be!
Very funny to see that. Fire trucks in Germany have only one switch. For turning the sirene on and turning it off :D Fire trucks in USA needs an driver and one more guy who is only playing with the sirenes XD
What makes this funny is not only that he is Q Happy, but when he doesnt need he never lifts his foot but when he does need it he barely touches it... Im surprised that Q didnt burn up and jump off the front bumper lol. I only full blast it at intersections and in heavy traffic. The rest of the time i pretty much try to keep it around 3/4 crank on the highway and rev it at about 2/5 crank on an empty street just in case someone pops up or I need to blast it quickly.
And the Chief replies" Thank you for your input. Due to your suggestion the department will cut back on battery costs next year by replacing all electronic sirens with a vuvuzela for the apparatus officer and the Q will be replaced with a hand cranked model. thus eliminating costly vehicle batteries! (LOL)
Lights on, sirens gotta be on to. I can't stand all the negative comments from the public about siren and horn usage, don't tell us how to do our job. You think you can be better, join some station and Proove it!
we often blast through red lights and intersections with hardly slowing down, of course only when we see that cross traffic has stopped. There wasn't a single accident with an emergency vehicle in my city caused by that as long as I can think back.
The Q is a old style mechanical siren which is still popular with Fire Departments. Its probably working off a foot pedal, as you can manipulate how long you can hold it at a high decibel, then letting go it draws down, and will go back up whenever you hit the pedal again. Basically human operated at choice. There are Electronic versions of this now which are on more of a auto function though I think some are also coming out that allow human manipulation. The Mechanical One is louder though.
Dont know what it must be like living right across the street from a fire station, good and bad, good, the firemen can walk just across the street if you have an emergency, bad, would always be waiting to hear those sirens go off whenever a Engine or Engines leave the station,. I have a station where everyday at Noon the station has a outdoor siren that winds up, holds the top note for about 10-20 seconds then it winds down after that, can prety much hear it throughout the whole town......
You're right but personally I find the high pitch very annoying so would want to let it go faster , so that's what most the drivers are going for when they hold it down
I'm surprised the Q doesn't fly off the truck... They are not made to hold down for long periods of time, good way to break it and burn it up, let it wind down a little.
I was going to comment on the over use of the Q. But i see everything i was going to say has already been said. Has the driver got shares in the company that make them or what?
Also wanted to ask you this if I may, since the door was already open as you left, dont know if you have a automatic door opener on it, but if yu do, and I know this has happened quite often with them, but what would you do if for some reason the automatic door opener failed and you werent able to open the door not even with the emergency Pull Cord that a lot of them have, does the station have a back door as weel, or would yu just have to let dispatch know that you are not able to get the truck(s) out because of a faulty door???????
+Andrew Silva If the door would not open in some situation we would contact the Chief on the radio and make him aware. The chief would make the call at that point and that would be up to the chief. If the chief said we need that truck then we would find a way.
yep. Some people on the department not only heard of this term but practiced it as well. Not on purpose but be aware that I have seen doors be taken out by trucks.
I had a person one time seeing the hoses here ours were laid across the road a Drunk Driver drove past me and others and right over the hoses almost hitting guys and a fire truck Don't even think the driver seen us sure never remembered doing it in court found Guilty on several counts 4.0 test at hospital DUI and other charges to I don't think he saw any thing that night not even the fire he did not remember doing any of it major fire to... Makes you wonder...
Look up federal signals operating guides some time. The Q is supposed to be allowed to wind down. Every time you push that pedal down you are making the batteries scream as you pull 100amps out of them. By by batteries.
Good thing that Q comes with a foot pedal, cause he must have been using his hands to play with something else. And you wonder why they are called wackers.
I don't understand why everyone is so upset over a siren. Big deal! The officer is more worried about his size up. Where is it, who's on my truck, what conditions do we have, is it a working structure fire, (This video is proof, because its in the title) do i need to have a roof crew ready? Is there confirmed entrapment? We aren't worried about a damn siren! They are replaceable, lives aren't

There is nothing wrong with him using the darn siren trust me ive had to lay on it going to a residential fire in town and thats the only way to get to the call sometimes
He's lucky the electrical system held out and they made to the scene, next question is where was the officer I would have smacked him upside the head after about the first 15 seconds
who are the 50 people that dislike this video? And why? 911 was called and the responding agency responded to said call. I'm confused about the " I don't like this," responce to this video.
My man was horn happy I mean the philadelphia guys don't even use the air horn like that.I swear some of these volunteer guys I think just go 4 the ride & not the actual reason thats SCARY!!!!!!
+Marloo Stanfield the full time guys are probably so sick of the noise they use the minimum, we see that here in Minnesota as well. The full time crews scare me more because they go so fast and make so little noise
+JPF941 your both dumbasses there is no difference between full time and volunteers except vollys don't get payed idk why people think vollys aren't as good as full timers or "aren't real firefighters" "just volunteers" its fuckin stupid
mopar or no car there is a difference, the full timers go on runs everyday and are conditioned to be more aggressive because they are out more then volunteers. So they hear the siren 4 to 7 times a shift, so they use the siren less then volunteers would who go out 1 a day or less depending on their department's work load. I've seen it personally with St Paul and Minneapolis FD. Notice I said NOTHING of the skill level, you made that assumption, so you're the dumbass. As far as I'm concerned they all run into burning buildings and handle events that the rest of us run from, so they are all awesome people.
+JPF941 would have to disagree with you. The volunteer department I'm with has a higher call rate than the full time department in the city surrounding. Also bare in mind a lot of the full time firefighters are on the volunteer department. Trust me when I say, the full time guys use the siren just as much as the volunteer. So why use this siren so much? Because modern cars are designed to block out, outside noise. As a result of this you need something that grabs the public attention. Here's the reality. If the public would get off their phone and pay attention to their surroundings, then, and only then would the ungodly loud siren not be necessary. Nothing is more frustrating then when somebody ( who you literally have been stuck behind for a mile) will not pull over, because their text is more important than the burning house. 10 years I've been doing this and I'm not against the louder siren
They are using the horn to clear intersections, and keeping them clear to ensure the safety of firefighters. If someone is on their phone and plows into an apparatus responding with lights and sirens, they are held guilty, because it is against the law to not move over, or stop at intersections when the apparatus is trying to get through
Who says there's too much Q? To me, that's what a fire truck should sound like and there is NO such thing as too much Q! You people dont know what your saying

Love the reflection of the truck when it pulls up on scene!! pretty cool

That's a nice sounding Detroit and an amazing Jake Brake! Sounds just like our tanker!
I thought the siren was right on. Thank you for sharing the video, and Happy Holidays.
holly hell that q aint gonna have any brushes left on it by the end of that call :0
So replace the brushes at a local motor shop and put it back into service. That Q siren sounds older than most jawns viewing and commenting .
2 minutes later, my ears are still ringing from the Q...
I don't know about you guys but you can never have enough of the "Q" IMO it amazing.
If u want I can pry make a UA-cam video of us doing Santa around town b/c we put pedal to the medal on the Q
These drivers r doing an excellent job on pulling over 4 them so they don't have 2 go against traffic 2 go around them I give props 2 the vehicles that took upon them selves 2 safely run the red light and move over good job drives showing respect
Well..that's what supposed to do anyway so..
I am sure all fire fighters are deaf at the end of their careers in the US. Great vid.

@@fmartinjr over ten years later you found my comment lol
Don't you just love the peple that run in front a fire truck :(

Looks like a Pierce from the reflection in the truck at the end.

For those of you that don't know this job took awhile and 02 yes a vol company was added to the card after the first alarm was already dropped
I would rather hear this siren than what they use in Germany, France, UK, ect. Way better.
Firefighters are angels !!!
does that siren go off the revs of the engine cuz it sounds like whenever he changes gear it starts over?
is this a volunteer fire department or a regular fire department I couldn't tell

Y'all are grounded from the Q siren and air horn until you learn how to use them! Damn!
Wow!!!! Take your FOOT of the Pedal!!!!!!!
Ohhh stfu lol. I for you love this. Use the Q as much as you can. And the horn. Love it:)
Lights on, sirens gotta be on to. I can't stand all the negative comments from the public about siren and horn usage, don't tell us how to do our job. You think you can be better, join some station and Proove it!

Oh well. Majority of the country lives next to or near inconvenient entities. Rail lines, airports, schools, highways, parks, commercial businesses.
Exactly why you don't let chief in the jump seat lol, poor Q
Holy "Q" batman!!!!! More cowbell!!!!!
Do FF's in cold weather regions wear different gloves in winter while working a hose than in summer?
An effective siren changes it's tone. Lift the foot off the Q once in awhile dude.
Love these calls that are 4 days ago
You're right but personally I find the high pitch very annoying so would want to let it go faster , so that's what most the drivers are going for when they hold it down
was city was that for that fire department hotel fire response?
ok love the q and powercall
Got to love that Q!!
@Tsunamikiller88 Is it a mid mount ? Or a rear mount?
Does that Q come with any fire truck?
I'm surprised the Q doesn't fly off the truck... They are not made to hold down for long periods of time, good way to break it and burn it up, let it wind down a little.
power call and the q :))) best sound you can hear
why was the video cam crooked at the start of the video?
They're killin that Q
Did you guys get your new house? Where is it?
Why is the fireball always 10 miles away.
keep thinkin the trucks gonna tip lol
I was going to comment on the over use of the Q. But i see everything i was going to say has already been said. Has the driver got shares in the company that make them or what?
is that the driver wearing the utley shirt?
What is the siren called producing the continuous yelp? Is it mechanical?
that's an electronic siren
The continuous yelp of the siren is called powercall, and is part of an electronic siren box. Yelp and powercall sound similar, but are different
DANG! That's more cars than I'd see in a year at my Station! Half our runs, we don't even need the siren..

If you drop a brick on the q pedal, it saves your foot from holding it the whole time...
Gotta be honest, Not a fan of the Power call, nor the high pitch long ride of the q, unless it's through traffic. Either way, be safe out there!!
The Q IS THE BOSS!!!
It is okay to let off the Federal ya know...your foot does not need to be pressed down on it the entire time.
Siren is great but why is the fire always on the other side of the state
I wish I had a pair of ear plugs for this video.
What's it like there?
captain likes his q. hah
I understand using the horn alot to move traffic but why do it when the roads empty for as far as your eyes can see?
Lol....I say the same thing. ...smh
BarmyTwubble agreed! Also damn take your foot of the damn Fed Q peddle, it is of no use to you when it is cranked all the way up.
Its to let any unseen drivers know that you are coming, and for them to prepare themselves
Stigma to always use it through intersections
I know your comments old
But they do it for safety. Sirens are not only for the traffic on the road. It's to warn anybody around that there coming. Fire trucks weigh alot and with there speed it takes a bit longer to come to a stop.
what was the long delay for?
They trying to warn the next city with the use of the Q like.
let it peak, then let off.
My GOD, get off the Fed Q. I dare you to get out and touch that housing when you get on scene! And all the air horn blasts, your going to deplete your air brakes too!
Is it just me or does anything think. Damn whosoever hose that is leading up has alot of packing to do. But great response overall.
Town looks de pressing
Tap the brakes on the Q man...lol
who are the 50 people that dislike this video? And why? 911 was called and the responding agency responded to said call. I'm confused about the " I don't like this," responce to this video.
I'm a fire fighter I love the q
Really???? Some folks just do not deserve the equipment they have! Such a lack of respect for your department's equipment!
Agreed, but good driving
I had to turn the volume down. My neighbors are running up and down the streets looking for a fire!!!
Older horns and Mechanical Q siren.
Someone loves their Q :)
RIP to headphone users ear drums!
THE Q IS TO POWERFUL! AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH.....LOL
Its actually a Ladder, 105 foot ladder i think the engine rolls after the ladder
Your correct it’s a 1995 pierce arrow 105’

What kind of engine is this ?
Someone break that Q off, holy shit.
You can guys can stop complaining about the Q siren, the video is three years old.
yall gonna burn that Q up.
dunno about everyone else but the fire trucks in Australia move faster than this
US fire trucks have a governed speed limit of 55-60 mph. Plus with all the other motorists on the road, coupled with the increasingly top-heavy engines we use, we can't just go racing around at top speed
Tow trucks move out pretty fast too. Saw it in a Mad Max movie.
Good idea, let's drive a large vehicle at high speed in heavy traffic. Fucking idiot.
