There will only be 75 of these sold. I'm assuming most will keep it as a collector's item rather than use it. Would you have the balls to use it?
yeah
who wouldn't have the balls to use their ball
@@ViQRoy89 proof of concept
eff yes. and in a street game on blacktop too.
Please sir give me a iPhone 15 Pro max
$3000 Apple vision pro: it does space computing
$2500 basketball: it bounces
This got me 😂
apple vision basically just a tiny tv but on your nose LOL
Both products are priced ridiculously
@@Bobby56288what would be a proper price for first of its kind innovations?
For a new tech first gen basketball $150 Max.
I’m no expert but I can ensure you that thing isn’t worth $2500.
To make it probably 5 bucks. To KNOW how to make it, 2495 bucks.

No shit!

it's frustrating that all these reviews end up just a couple bounces of the ball instead trying to play with it ..
UA-cam reviewers: jack of all trades, masters of none.
yeah its wild that i havent seen anyone actualy use it
well its too expensive to play with it i think i wouldnt want to ruin something worth that much
@@MaTTaN6yeah but I think it’d be fine in an indoor court or something yk
@@MaTTaN6 even just a couple of shots is better then nothing
The sound plays a bigger role than most people realize. The sound is how you know where the ball is when dribbling without looking at it. It's how a defender can watch someone without looking at the basketball and still be able to time it when you are going for a steal.
But imagine adapting to it
It’s probably just a proof of concept for now that a ball without air can imitate the physics of a basketball. But like what the reply said above me, players will adapt and arguably become better due to the increased sensitivity of sound through training.
Sound is definitely something people use as an advantage but i don’t see any basketball players having a hard time keeping their eye off of the ball when the crowd is screaming their heads off. I think it’s an unimportant feature and can be easily overcome.
I think that's why the airless basketball is fun--because then it poses a whole new challenge to conquer. Idk, maybe just me. Would be fun to see kids people play with it kind of like how people now consider ping-pong as a real separate sport.
Shame this is so expensive could’ve been really used in neighborhoods where people complain about sound of the ball😅
Give it a week or 2. Copies will be all over the net.
Chinese are watching….. you’ll be able to buy it for 2.99$ soon.
the people who complain will find something else to complain. you have to understand some people actually enjoy complaining. nothing can be done about it. yesterday it was the noise, today is something else and tomorrow will be another third thing. they just want to complain about something (anything) because they enjoy doing it and there's nothing that can be done about it.
@@Behroozplt It's $2.99 not 2.99$ get it right it's not that hard.

I did not expect it to be the same weight. That just made it a whole lot more impressive than i initially though. Wow
That r32 sitting in the back is tuff🔥🔥
I be was looking for this comment 🤣ong tuff asf
@@matthewshadd4083 Bro same here, I was thinkin surely someone has commented on that. Shit is mad distracting bc its so gorgeous
Too bad seems to be collecting dust though. Should make a video dusting it off on the road!
bro i immediately spotted it lol
What's up with the cars they've had back there the past what, couple years now? Always see cool shit, whether from techy/EV or enthusiast standpoint, but I've never found (or looked to be fair) any other videos around them?
Bros got the GTR in the back to write it off for work purposes.
You don't have a corporate GTR?
@@indubitably_ Nah, I didn't fill out the Form R32
When you took the mass of the ball is when I got truly impressed! It makes more sense now. The density is basically the same, the elasticity and friction coefficients are probably similar too, so that probably plays a large part in why the ball bounces
gotta shoot some hoops! i wonder what effect/drag it has while flying through the air. does reverse spin stabilize it more or less?
oh lordy maybe more consistent? Steph like ok let it rain!
2500 for a basketball is insanity.
Collectors item always means insanity
there's 75 of them, it's a collectors item
NOT if you are the NBA
Same as 3k for apple goggles
Think of all the air you will save though. Practically pays for itself.
Finally, we can play basketball in stealth mode
Shoes squeek*
That moment the holes get Play-Doh'd from a fresh dog-pile or it gets gravel in it.
The point of this exercise is so that in a future where 3D printing is much more resource efficient, the typical basketball can be 3D printed and layers of leather/synthetics can just be glued/sewn on top of the design thus preserving the airless nature while keeping the same feel and texture of a conventional basketball
I recall watching your unboxing of the Sony XB-500 back in like 2011? You sold me on those and i got a pair! Havent been back since...you've gotten so popular
That would be hilarious to come out with a line of silent basketball shoes too. Then you could combine them with the silent ball and have very respectful silent games haha.
It’s to take extraneous noises out of the game so you can hear the trash talk more clearly.
That would actually be epic!
That'll be big in the Japanese market
like in tennis
currys are basically silent
I love that R32 GTR in the background 😃
Same, but it looks dirty and it's bothering me.
Although fanboys over rate them, it still is an iconic beauty. Car people will all gather under this comment.
@@smackette I happen to own 1994 R32 GTR, 1995 Supra and few other cars. I don't think that they are overrated and I'm making videos about them.
@@1MTEDDY Both of the most overrated cars, but this is my opinion. They aren't bad cars at all they just have received this JDM godly status that has gone way too far.
@@smackette They are great looking and the best tuning platforms that you can find with a wide variety of parts available for any power level you want.
They are overrated if they are stock and unmodified. But if you spend another 30-50k on parts, then the fun begins.
Glad to hear the weight is the same. This should perform better outdoors when there is wind with the holes and all. All they need is to get the texture right and somehow make it affordable
That r32. Killing the vlog. Lol. Love it. Like how it disappears and reappears. Lol
Not a vlog but ok
Tom Hanks would be glad to be stranded with this ball. Unfortunately, Wilson would have sunk at sea with all those holes.😂
it would still float as its plastic .
Might get trypophobia drawing the ball face. 🤣
I thought Toms Wilson was a volleyball in this case. Am I trippin? Didn't he have a volleyball? I'm sure they will make the soccer ball football tennis ball every other ball to follow 🤷🏽♂️, but I get the sarcasm 👍🏽
lol youre not tripping it was indeed a volleyball@@kingisrael1532
@@pralayaryanbeing plastic doesn't mean it floats. There's a lot of different plastics 😅
Waiting on the Chinese knockoff for $25.
10:45 "It smells like the future." 😂😂😂 Love it!
Some concerns:
Reliability: How sturdy is it? Will any loss of integrity at all compromise its bounce characteristics?
Aerodynamics: A lotta holes there... Can you play outside in the wind? With enough spin, will it curve it like a wiffleball? Will it lessen ball travel when passing/shooting?
Sexyness: Will it get me laid?
1. Depending on the plastic they use it should stay fairly intact and useable, jjust like any other plastic ball
2. The reason a wiffleball curves is 1 side doesnt have holes so it creates friction. Since this has holes everywhere it wont curve.
3. Yes :)
Dunno about the durability but presumably the benefit is it'll never need pumping. The tire industry has been trying to work towards airless tires for years and they're used on the lunar roving vehicle.
It 100% would destroy the aerodynamics. So I really couldn't see something like this being used professionally in it's current form.
This is the best solution for the problem we never had! 👏 bravo to wilson for pushing the future.
I mean it's still a cool idea, balls can't pop or deflate. So there's that atleast lol
ball popping or deflating? or the annoying neighbour that complains about the noise?
@@CallyWasHereOfficial This is a very expensive way to deal with those problems lol, this product was designed for just marketing nothing more
@@dipper5835it's not a market item, so of course it won't have retail pricing. Gen 1 is about innovation and prototype testing, the next step is cost effectiveness, making sure it's more consumer friendly.
@dipper5835 The reason it's expensive right now is the rarity, as far as we know they haven't produced many or found an efficient production method. I'm sure they'll still be a pretty steep price if they do make it to store shelves, but for some people it might be worth it.
This could be so revolutionary for street basketball around the world 🔥
bro its been years since ive seen u cant believe you got 20m subs now that is awesome bub
noticed that there were a shit ton of cracks between the holes, prolly not supposed to be like that but maybe I'm wrong 6:38 for $2500 to have cracks in a collectors item is crazy tho

I am surprised you haven't reviewed apple vision pro since you're always updated and given the tech to review

The fact that it is quiet makes it 100 times better than the classic one
what about how it spins or moves through the air etc... ?
i prefer combustion motorcycles over electric ones. because i like the sound.
same applies here for me.
Yeah, wait until rocks and dirt get stuck inside that fucking ball when your playing on a blacktop court.
@@denizkendirci a silent motorcycle is just asking for trouble, we make them loud for a reason. I want to try an e-moto but only if I can try one on a closed roadway or track.
Could really throw off players who listen to what's happening. Makes passes a bit more sneaky. Defenders will have to keep their head on a swivel, which will leave openings for break aways. Plus, watching a game with one of those balls will truly take away from the experience, just imagine watching a game where all you hear is the squeaking of shoes and a bunch grunting and panting. Someone will be watching a ball game in their room, and the people they live with will think their watching gay orgy porn. Then the crowd cheers... "damn, I didn't know they did that shit with an audience" 😂
This as an internal bladder with a external cover that was like a real basketball would be incredible. Then you would really have a ball that never deflated.
That was my first idea when this popped up. Finding a way to get a nice cover over it to get the feel of an actual ball but still no need to pump.
Now we're talking
Fairly simple fix
@chrisjfox8715 Not necessarily. It might have to be engineered differently, it was designed to have air pass through it, that is why it is so quiet.
@@louismalinak5563 the main sell of the quiet is in the bounce. The outer skin doesn't have to be thick necessarily
I'm SO GLAD YOU UNBOXED THIS... would have been much more useful if it was used for the purpose it was built for so we can see if it's more than a prop
I feel like on the long 3 pointers, the spin applied, combined with the effect of airflow through and not just around the ball, would possibly have an impact on ball dynamics and ballistics… especially when playing outdoors…
My favorite basketball from Wilson has been the Evolution for a very long time
Came for the basketball, stayed for the GTR. 😂

The holes on the Wilson airless ball affect its aerodynamics by reducing air resistance, allowing it to travel faster and farther with more accuracy? This means that players will need to adjust their throwing techniques to accommodate the new dynamics of the ball. Additionally, the lack of air means that the ball maintains its shape and consistency, ensuring a more reliable performance over time. What do you think?
I saw you driving in Toronto in your hummer! You saw us looking and checked us out lol
Skyline in the background? Dope
Nice Chavez knife man...also nice balls
Is that a Chaves Redencion you're using to open the box?
Also, I fully agree on the DeWalt pump as I have the exact same one, the jog dial to set the PSI is nice, it has 3 types of power sources (if you can find the wall outlet cord, sold separately), and the screw in brass chuck is way better than the cheaper ones which snap into place.
I can see defects in the printing, the closeups reveal some of the hexagons sedes broken in some parts which makes doubt the durability of the desing, granted, is a prototype and not intended for actual use, for now
That idea of yours to have a hybrid of this and the standard ball is really cool. Either way, its a cool collectable and I have no doubt it will be in some collections soon, it just won't mean much to most until it hits mass production at a price closer to the standard or official NBA grade ball.
"Airless"
"Full of air, I want my money back!"
I wanna see them shoot with it. It probably is affected by wind in a different way than a normal ball. Need one of those basketball shooting robots to test these with a normal ball at all sorts of different ranges.
that all being said once they become affordable I will have one
This is not the same fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3d printing you think of when you think of 3d printing, this is actually a process called selective laser sintering (SLS) and it lays down a thin sheet of powder, then goes over that powder with a laser to cure it, then it lays down another layer of powder and repeats this process until the print is done.
How do you make a 15 minute video about a ball
Because he’s at the point where he needs to makes 15 minute video about a ball lol
They made a trilogy of movies about a ring whats your point..
And not even test shooting or passing
10:34 AYO????
That Chaves Redencion knife is so sick. Plan to get one soon.
I genuinely love all of your hoodies, where do you get them? Lol
I wonder how the grip feels when you try to palm the ball? Does it have adequate traction?
Too bad they don't show how it would actually feel/behave in an actual game. Do the holes change the feel of it coming off the hand and fingertips of the player causing it (or the player) to behave differently. Maybe the holes change the trajectory of the ball in flight due to different aerodynamics? I would have to see it in actual game play.
From what I have heard the grip is significantly worse
Around @10:50 small part breaks off. Clearly durability an issue. Not great for 2500 dollars.
Your idea about this potentially being a skeleton/cage for a ball with a more traditional feel is interesting, I wonder what a version without air flowing through it would be like! Besides 4000 bucks, probably.
i watched that handle fall at 4:38 like 10 times. smoother than my glve box
11:01-10 My question is what happens when you throw/pass it. Does it allow you to grip it with your fingers as you are about to dunk it or make a fake pass?
I can totally see them releasing the Gen 2 for $500
That r32 just be chilling 💯
I wonder how many bounces a ball like that can take? Also, the aerodynamics of a shot must be so different with that ball.
LOU!!! What about the float through the air on a full three pointer bro?? Any different??😊😊
exactly my thoughts. I m wondering how it behaves on long shots or on curved shots if it were for soccer for example...my common sense tells me it will be different and would have a small learning curve
We want old Unbox Therapy and Lew Later back
what do you mean?
I suspect what's Wilson's strategy: They'll cover the holes in "Gen 2" in order to avoid the dirt accumulation inside and some problems related to air flows through the ball when it's shot.
Only thing it missing is rgb lighting
Yes
Dip in rubber grip, and the black paint lines and you can get the addition 10g....
The fact they sent you a custom made lable. Berry nice touch wilson.
This will be great for mass production in areas like Africa, India, other places where the conditions can be brutal on balls
6:38 the wall is already cracked….$2500 and it’s already broken.😂😂
Nah. It’s just because he’s focusing through the holes. Visual illusion. You can see when it wiggles they disappear.

@@Its-Ghoul I did the same thing haha
i bet it will reduce your accuracy when throwing this because of small spaces the air would pass thru the holes.
Nope
I was thinking the same thing....would you get the golf ball effect from all of the holes to the point that you could see movement side to side from rotational force
This is awesome as prices for inflating balls with just air are getting astronomical!
casually flexing godzilla in the back is crazy ........been a while since i've watched your videos happy to be back

@unboxtherapy
How does the airless gen 1 throw? Like passing & shooting? The air passing through it I would i think would mess with the accuracy & speed of passing & shooting the ball. Have you done any passing & shooting yet with the airless? Thanks
Just like the real thing...I was able to play with one before the launch.
@@troykindle4539 tested in windy conditions? Hoping this could change the street games one day.
the air will go through the mesh tho, so I don think it will mess with the accuracy
@@MrMartin48705 Its the same weight as a regular match ball. It'll be fine
@@MrMartin48705im fairly certain in windy conditions a regular basketball would be arguably worse. airless one has holes in it for the wind to pass through, and its the same weight as the normal one.
Interesting. Cooool.
First unboxing video I've watched of this Gen1. Definitely, ahem, a game changer, or maintainer (for those who'd love practicing quietly somewhere).
One thing I noted: wonder what it's like to clean if, say, grit or other things were to get lodged inside. Nah, then again, as you say in America, just 'fugeddaboutit!'
it'd be cool if they make another version where you could cover the ball with synthetic leather or rubber, so you only need to replace the wear & tear on the cover while the core could lasts for a long time
Would be cool if the stand was powered and blew just enough air to float the ball/ rotate
It has holes so it's not going to lift
That R32 ❤ forget that airless ball
The car looks dusty
Grip is a huge aspect of playing basketball. You don't want that thing sliding off your hands. Their next step is to use a more grippy material to closer imitate the leather on a genuine basketball
Love the bamboo deck my friend
Yes man!! I was watching you open the box and was like” I wonder what knife is Lewis using to open that box”…and then I saw the pocket clip!! Let’s Go!! I have 3 of his knives. I love his work.
May I ask what knife/knives he has (reviewed) that you rate highly? Thanks :-)
Wow i was not expecting it to be silent, pretty neat
The black version looks awesome!
I needed this as a kid in the house lol
3:10 You knew that we were looking at that air pump you had, LOL!!!!
This is interesting. A second video of this new type of basketball. I saw the first video and with this one I stopped the video at 8:00 to make a comment. I'll watch the rest of the video to find out what Unbox Therapy says.
From the first video, Wilson says the new ball is supposed to actually replace the traditional ball. It is supposed to have the same bounce and the same weight. I think it is really cool that they designed a ball that is airless that has those traits. But I wonder if it would effect the action as it travels through the air because those holes are exposed. Much like a wiffle ball. I don't know, who knows, but Wilson engineered the ball.
Do some testing with it. Can you palm it as easily? Perhaps chill it/heat it and see if the bounce capabilities go up or down. How would you go about cleaning such a thing? Would the dirt not get completely filthy inside over time? So many questions but a cool product to be sure
that tanto knife flick was very satifying
I could see less wind resistance. Making it more ergonomic. That definitely would throw off someone’s shot. Have to get used to the air traveling thru the ball vs around the ball.
brought a whole new meaning to air ball.
Deep listening is miraculous for both listener and speaker. When someone receives us with open-hearted, non-judging, intensely interested listening, our spirits expand.
Some dude on tiktok has been trying to recreate this by 3D printing using various types of TPE filament (rubbery and flexible). If he nails down something comparable, you could have one of your own for probably less than 20 bucks and a couple days worth of print time, assuming you have a 3D printer.
i'm curious about it's durability compared to a regular basketball
this is actually very interesting
