I think it was about a month ago and I think it was Eric LaCroix on DNVR that said it but he (or someone else) predicted that by the trade deadline, neither of the top two goalies at the time would be on the roster. I know fans are tweaking on Georgiev and rightfully so but also need to realize that making those changes midseason doesn’t come without a ton of effort behind the scenes and have to think they’re very actively looking to remedy that situation as we speak. That’s my saving grace as a fan because we see how good this team can be when they have confidence in the guy standing in the blue paint. And dear lord, what a comeback and that third period was as dominant as they’ve looked in a period all season. All I could think when they finally took the lead was don’t change anything. That’s the type of game after the last few that infuses belief into a team and seeing Nate get jacked after that tying goal kind of said it all. As for Georgiev, I think it will be like taking that giant gasp of air after holding our breath when he finally goes. LFG boys!

    2 questions:
Have the Avs considered that their goaltending coach is failing?
Understanding that Georgiev has had a terrible season, what does it cost the team to ditch him and his contract?

I agree! Wedgewood hadn't been exposed to Avs goaltending coaches yet, and look at how well he performed...I mean, I'm not going to say I'm a big believer in Georgie, but at the same time it seems like the goalie coaches for the worst goaltending in the NHL are getting off scott free here. Maybe they deserve a little bit more air time to review and discuss?

amazing to see a tender come in cold and not give up 4 more goals. IDK who fits into the salary slot and is looking to dump salary for picks....but that is the team that they trade georgiev to. Sharks seem like a likely candidate, but it sucks to see more draft capital go to fix mistakes. RyJo last year was expensive, and i cannot imagine that a blackwood for georgiev swap doesnt include a premium pick

I was watching the first period and talking to my Dad, who is a Sabre Fan. I was like, "Don't even bother, your guys are up by 4 goals after 8 shots. After the Game, I texted my Dad and said, "Hey, you might want to watch the highlights." I didn't tell him we came back, lol. Turning point for the season... I think... I Hope.

I realized there was a game and that it actually televised here in the Denver area ... It was 4 - 0 and the 2nd period was just starting .... I watched the entire game from that point on ...
AWESOME! Sadly though G had yet another rough start ...

Kyle! My man! I fell in love with comeback kid back in 2004/2005 and wake the dead was my intro to them. Still rock that song in the gym today. That entire CD is amazing!

Yes, I admit it, I was one of the ones who turned it off and checked back on the NHL app and tuned back in.
I think the Avs saw all the fun the Broncos were having with their defensively loose, high scoring game and wanted their own version.
This team just can never show up when the game starts. Exciting comeback, though.
I miss Frankie. Can we just add some mechanical parts and have a Robo-Frankie?

The turning point was the goalie change. It allowed the Avs to play comfortably in their d-zone, and that also gave them confidence to play Avs hockey. The first two goals on Georgie were demoralizing; they were soft.

To me, this game was the exact same performance as the 2-8 loss to Tampa from the team. The difference here being a lower ranked team that couldn't fend off an avs comeback attempt and a goalie that hasn't been haunted by struggles all season coming in to control the Avs D zone.
Strong first showing from Wedgewood and a 0-4 comeback is super exciting, but they really need to figure out whatever is happening here. This lazy, injured puppy start twice in a little over a week is absurd from such a high powered roster (even considering injuries).

I will admit, I did turn it off at the end of the first and through the second. We were having dinner and I decided to save my family from my frustration and anger temporarily. I turned it back on in the 3rd, partially because I know there's always a chance that they will rock it in the third. I wish we could get that kind of intensity for 60 minutes, but I guess beggars can't be choosers at this point. I was very impressed with Wedgewood and thank he really ingratiated himself to the fan base with that win. Poor guy needs some new pads and a new helmet though! The abs sticker they put on the front of his helmet cracked me up!😜

Soundcheck: Depth Charge by The Devin Townsend Band.
(why? it goes both ways: delayed explosion and bottom 6 appreciation)
It is way to early to say such things, but let me throw it out there: it would be kinda ironic if the biggest winner of the recent trade was Wedgewood. You don't have to be a great or even very good goalie. It's enough for him to play decent and reliable hockey to get #1 spot on a contending team. At least till for some time...
The Fourgiev nickname always looked offensive to me, but here it happened again... The team looks dispirited, or even demoralised in front of him. Time for a change.

I was supposed to be at the game but couldn't make it. The only thing that would've made it more disappointing is if mack had a hat trick and I wasn't there to throw my hat. Also I think the goalie interference has been called consistently this year so I was surprised to see a failed challenge, I'll have to go back and watch closer, the game was blocked in my area.

the last 2 years we out scored his(georgies) bad play only reason he won as many games as he did , its the reason we were the highest scoring team in the nhl but we were also like 9th in goals allowed ,i can really only think of maybe 3 games that georgie didnt let in 3 plus goals ,and i think one was the first game of the season vs the sharks when blackwood had himself a night and we won in overtime ,this isnt beer league we cant expect to keep scoring 5 plus a game and win .its time to pull the trigger and trade him to sharks possibly for blackwood give up picks if we have to , the longer we wait the bigger hole we get into , barly clinging to a wild card spot as it is and most of the teams ahead of us have games in hand that b2b vs dallas and oilers were must wins and yea :(

Request for the podcast: What would you be prepared to trade for a better goalie? Do you think there is some area of depth that the Avs can afford to trade? Would you give up a top 6 forward - say Nichushkin? The team has already made two low-risk moves to improve that position since the start of the year. It seems like you want the team to do something more drastic. What? This would be better content than repeating....and repeating...and repeating....that the team needs to "do something." Thanks.

Georgiev is DONE! He should not be allowed to play another game unless he's the backup goalie and HAS to come in due to an injury to Wedgewood. Since no one in their right mind would trade for Georgiev, just waive him and bring up another goalie from the Eagles.
At this stage, who cares why Georgiev is not making the saves. The bottom line is, he has NOT been making the saves for the second year in a row. When Georgiev is in net, you can almost feel that the Avs players expect him to lose the game for them regardless of how many goals they score, so they do not put in the effort. I even wonder if the Avs malaise (that has been very evident this year) is the team's way of trying to send a message to the front office!?!

Wasn’t it that the same old thing happened Georgiev being himself again and the team you can see that they don’t trust him anymore and they are just waiting for him to allow goals that shouldn’t go in! I believe that in the 2nd int , Bednar probably told them Wedgewood hasn’t given up , you have no right to,,, that what I think happened! I’m sorry Georgiev hasn’t looked good in 2 years! Look at the stats it’s not is it a bad game or good game he’s the worst starter in the NHL!

The Avs made a comeback against the bottom dweller Buffalo Sabres. YIPPEE. Should never have needed a comeback against such a team. This Avalanche team feels like such primadonnas--the defending sucked ass to start and they literally refuse to play in front of Georgiev (I'd be pissed about that if I was Georgiev). If this team expects to keep doing this all season they will have no legs (no speed) and be exhausted going in to playoffs. Not a good strategy for a very undersized, speed only team...good luck with that. This type of play has them out by round 2

@@jcrotty18 Ohhh sorry I didn't say it exactly right to your liking, my bad. Are the Sabres dead last this year in standings? No. Over the last several seasons have they appeared in playoffs? BIG No. My hyperbolic statement putting them in the bottom is really just pointing out the Avalanche are far superior in talent on the roster and should NOT be in the same class as the Sabres or losing to them 4-0 at any point.

Ill put it this way, wedgewood is a great backup goalie when people in front of him are also playing well and he absolutely has the ability to steal games. We miss him in dallas and he was real good when he took over after Oettinger got injured. Take care of him over there he is great to have on the team.
