    you sir deserve more viewership. Short and straight to the point with lots of very useful info I appreciate it. I think the language barrier is the biggest barrier to entry for a lot of people and channels like yours will help a lot.

    Yes! Good recommendations. Sadly the Japanese language might scare people off.
    Community project in the future: making an English shogi bot beginner friendly??

      I have bookmarked Steam game "Shogi!" although we have yet to see whether it will provide a beginner-friendly AI.

    Wow thank you. I played several low lvl games on Piyoshogi and never lost. I feel like shogi expert now.
    Too bad I'm already bald from playing vs lvl1 lishogi bot :/

    If playing lishogi AI at lvl 1 is bad for new players, does playing lishogi AI at lvl 1 + a handicap make it good for new players. If so, what handicap is recommended?

      Playing handicap against it is better than playing an even game I suppose, but if you're going to go the handicap route I would actually recommend playing against a person rather than a bot But if someone insists, I would say at least a 2 piece handicap for beginners, that way they don't have to worry about sudden major piece moves while learning.

    The funny thing is that the Lishogi bot used to be worse. It was originally using the shogi variant of pychess, but later moved to Yaneura Ou, one of the new NNUE-based engines, because people complained the bot was too weak! I personally think the newer, stronger engine is better: a beginner is supposed to quickly lose a hundred games, and observe closely the better moves and strategies that the opponent used to beat them, and copy them in their own games.
    The point is well taken about PiyoShogi though: two things missing from LIshogi are a wider range of engine strengths and better computer-aided post-game analysis. (There is an Analysis board you can use after a game, but its client-side engine doesn't work in all browsers, and its features are limited.) There is a reason even the top pros analyze the game after their matches, that is where all the learning happens.

    two more options I would like to suggest to beginners (newbie myself):
    - lishogi -> Search (top-right corner) - BOT random
    - lishogi -> Plan with computer -> Handicap (4 pieces)

    Oh wow, I somehow managed to brute force my way to the level 2 AI but the same complaints apply. I've just never voiced them because I thought I was stupid for not progressing.

    my point is:
    With shogi whatever you do in the beginning you are going to lose majority of the games and it takes a lot of time and effort before you can really have fun from playing. Only the patient people do not give up at that stage. Or maybe geniuses who catch everything so quickly. But obviously this is not the topic o f the video

    It took me a while to beat it; it is totally not level 1. Lichess level 1 is literally stupid, lishogi level 1 never misses a chance to punish you.
