- Granblue Fantasy Relink Review: Is It Worth It?
This Granblue Fantasy Relink Review is going to cover how good Granblue Fantasy Relink is. We've waited 7+ years for Granblue Fantasy Relink and now it's time to decide, was it worth the wait? I've put 20+ Hours into Granblue Fantasy Relink over 2 days and these are my thoughts so far.

If you're hesitant about buying Granblue Fantasy Relink, what is stopping you?
Hey man... off question... Do you happen to know how to get Zeta's final weapon lmao? Unsure if you can disclose this yet. I'm still unsure myself.
Steam doesn't have preorders... zzz
Steam lol
Sony and its exclusive deal, I will need to wait a couple more days before I can buy from steam store >_>
steam...
What’s stopping me? Steam.
same
Same. Surprised no reviews have dropped yet.
@@CertifiedLemonMan yeah I need to know if the pc ports good
@@CertifiedLemonMan because it unlocks a bit later for Steam. Its timed exclusive release for digital copies, for PS4 PS5
@@CertifiedLemonManOn Metacritic "Come back to review it starting at 12:00pm PST on Jan 30, 2024"
7hrs in, ITS FUCKING AMAZING. Graphics, story, no micro transactions, rpg progression, huge list of characters with their own unique gameplay.
I highly recommend switching to Japanese VA before starting.
They got fking KENJIRO TSUDA, one of the best VA in the industry
The point made about the playerbase being the defining factor for the longevity of the game highlights the most concerning issue with the game currently: the lack of crossplay between PC and PS5. The game is essentially splitting its playerbase exclusively in half between the two platforms. For a game the depends so much on a thriving multiplayer community, not having crossplay on launch is a major oversight and blunder. Hopefully it is implemented very soon.
I rather the gaming economy just make consoles play with consoles and keep PC separate. Them PC dudes love finding ways to hack games.
🤔 Multiplayer isn't the driving force behind Granblue Fantasy Relink though, you can play the game solo with nobody if you want. I'm having a blast playing it solo and enjoy JRPG games solo.
You might be getting it mixed with GranBlue Fantasy Verses which is a fighting game that does thrive off of online multiplayer.
@@ogbreeze1081 Completely agree with you here. I am so sick of this crossplay crap. Just make good games, that's all I want.
It is for Post-game. I am also well aware of the game that is clearly shown in the video, too.@@shushyshushy6762
Hmmm. I was looking forward to this but if the endgame is just selecting from an menu and doing an instance over and over i gotta admit, that does not sound exciting at all
*Definitely* need to get this!
I hope they fix the lock on soon 🎃
Nice informative video, good format, good job!
Great review, downloading now.
just finished the story and damn the main story was so fucking good hope the post content is good
Can't wait for this to go on sale. Can't see myself picking it up at full price for how short it is.
Good video! I love the game so far. Don’t have a ton of time in it yet.
I think dissuading solo players is a little unfair albeit true that I understand where you are coming from. There are AI companions and difficulty settings though. I could be wrong. Definitely agree on story-driven players. I’m a bit disappointed the story isn’t just a little bit more of a focus considering how awesome the characters are. In the end, not a big deal. Still a really fun game!
Nice review! Game is gonna be so fun. I saw an interview few days ago and the director said it will receive continual support. For challenge he said they will add harder quests and fights starting with Lucilius that was recently revealed. This is awesome.
Which interview, fam?
It was the granblue interview.

@@somedude1324
@@somedude1324 You can find an interview about the game in Cygames' UA-cam channel. Is like an hour and a half long talking about the game and the plans for its future.
I loved Tales of Arise but the dialog became a little too much especially towards the end. I feel like this game has great pacing when it comes to dialog and combat. The characters feel different in a lot of ways. I like that they reward you for watching a short “Fate” video of each character’s backstory with attribute upgrades. It makes me want to go watch the original anime show. Great game!
Yeah same here I think I like the combat in here more than tales of arise and this is coming from someone who loved tales of arise and 100% everything
Looks absolutely stunning and i dont really play these games. I got into tales of vesperia and felt like i was making myself play it for the 15 hours I did. This looks like it adds that extra piece of action for my add brain to enjoy.
Does this game have any type of loot based system or a system that makes acquiring certain rare gear worth it, especially in raid stages?
i'm here for the grind! i do miss jrpg games.
I bought this game on a whim. Never heard of the franchise and didn't even know this game was dropping.
Holy shit the first fifteen minutes are epic. The battle with bahamut then the forest battle before getting into town. The whole team does epic attacks that litter the screen with dazzling effects.
My eyes were watering at the colors and beautiful animation.
I'm busy with work and playing like a dragon: infinite wealth, plus persona 3 drops Friday but man that first section before getting to town is amazing. I'm sold. I hope this isn't a one and done and we get sequels.
I am now a granblue fantasy fan.
Had 15+ hours on the demo version, pre-ordered the game to get the early access, have been playing the game since (the only thing that's stopping from grinding the shit out of the game is work).
I actually can't believe how good the game truly is. Everything from visuals, music, character design, content, world-buliding, boss fights, combat system, character variety (visually and mechanically), the banter between the crew, etc. is top notch.
Monster Hunter meets Devil May Cry meets Tales of Arise meets GBF Rising is probably the best way to describe Relink IMO
An excellent start to 2024 🎉
Question: How long does it take you to max out one character? Kind of don't mind grinding, but I plan on playing most of the characters and solo too.
This video overall is a good take. Fair and balanced. My own hesitation is the following - There's so many red flags that this whole game design was made for a mobile gatcha game and then reformatted for the west. 20 hr story content 80 hr sidequests... Most streamers are overhyping and not being critical and too in love with the honeymoon phase of the game. I liked how you actually tried to evaluate the longevity of the game and its worth.
Great review, thank you.
Im taking my time with the story I wished ot was at least 25 hour's but uts okay im loving the game
This will be my first grandblue fantasy game. Looks amazing, cant wait
How have you found the challenge? I'm interested in challenging quests and deep gameplay. I love monster hunter, so I don't mind a grind, but there's gotta be a challenge to back it up.
I found a certain story quest, caused me a challenge because my npcs kept dying and caused me to fail the mission. Was only until I picked "Story" difficulty for the boss fight that I didn't have this issue. Not a challenge persay, but a challenge in making sure the npc's didn't die all the time... lol.
im playing on hard and there are moments where you can just get one shot depending on some circumstances...but id say monster hunter is much more difficult to pick up.
From the demo, it felt like a button smasher for me. Endless same combos and special attacks until health bar was empty. I really missed tactic and weight to fights. :/
@@Seitenwerk this too. I want to play for the story since I have been playing shadowverse for some time and have always been curious about the granblue characters and their backstory but the combo mashing battles are just not my cup of tea. The battle animation and effects is awesome I won't deny that but to grind levels through mashing buttons seems daunting for me. Might pick it up later when there is sale I guess
I'm buying it for endgame, so excited for steam launch
Are you able to do side-quests in tandem with the main story at your leisure? Also, is there a Hard mode starting out?
yes there is a hard mode. and side quests are just things like “get this item”. and the item can be found by simply playing through any mission u do. like for example one side quest tells u to get griffin feathers. u just gotta boot up a mission with a griffin feather as a reward. another side quest tells u to get cobble stones and u just get those by walking around a level and picking it up while doing a story mission.
Yes you can do the hunt quests by going to the quest counter in the town. Mind you once you depart to continue the main story on each chapter you can't easily return to town once you start.
In terms of difficulty, i wouldn't advice in your first run to go on harder difficulties. This is not an easy game per se. The big bosses have some wipe mechanics and hit quite hard. Also in your first run your resources to upgrade and etc are very limited.
i wish there was a way to toggle off cooldowns among all the accessibility options, as a hack n slash fan it always bothers me when my combos are limited by having my abilities locked behind a timer
If I wanted to could I do a big portion of the grinding done before I complete the main story? I'd prefer to do that. Usually with these JRPGs once I wrap up their postgame story and big (secret) boss, I like to set it down. But I also want to get a good sampling of all the characters too
I think the main story is where you sample different characters. It's basically easy mode. The real challenge happens after you finish the story.
game wont let you level past certain points until you progress the story, you can lvl ip but skill tree wont be fully open
I feel like the way you're talking about the endgame experience might give viewers the wrong impression. I had a friend watch this and he got the idea that buying the game would be pointless if he doesn't play online. Firstly, considering how quickly you put together this review, I'm not entirely convinced that your characters are optimized enough to confidently say that solo play is too hard. I have friends who are almost at the endgame, and they haven't had the same issues (I'm still in the middle of the story, so I can't speak from personal experience yet). While playing with others can undoubtedly make fights easier due to coordination, it sounds like you're saying it's either play online with friends or don't bother with the endgame at all.
I believe there will be challenging fights designed for multiplayer or well-optimized NPC parties, but aside from those extreme quests, I think there will still be plenty of others that are enjoyable and manageable for solo players.
To optimize a full party offline is gonna be a definite grind. Do-able tho.
@ogbreeze1081 From your experience, how long does it take to grind one character to max? I enjoy playing as the majority of characters from the demo so I do plan grinding them
@@PATOfThePAT probably around 2 weeks if your gonna play 2-4 hours a day.
@ogbreeze1081 2 WEEKS! I know you have four characters in your party, but does this only apply to the character you're playing as or for everyone in your party?
@@PATOfThePAT if you play offline all your characters will level up with you. If you play online only 1 will level up. Leveling up is the easy part. You have to spend the msp to make them actually stronger. And that’s the grind.
Reminds me of Ys7. Can't wait to try it.
You got me at Grindy !!! I thrive at maxing my stats, maxing my skill trees 🎄, upgrading my gear, farming quest for mats, 😂 I'm all in !
I work 11 hours today I can't wait to get out of work pick up the game play it for 23 minutes and then fall asleep.
welcome to our world
Great review! The story is short but sweet, with some great moments sprinkled in, but the lore and world building is top notch!
You do level up your active party along with your main, and if you're playing through the main story chapters, even your inactive party members level up along side your active party.
And while this is the case, managing multiple cpu characters, their gear & skills is gonna take time. Endgame will be tough going solo, but still doable. And besides, it's more fun with friends.
Either way, gameplay is very satisfying!
Is background music from Persona ? :D
It's worth it no video needed. The boss fights are insane. It was in developement for 7 years.
Yes its the best game ive ever played we have Kaiba,Akainu,Sanji and More characters in🗣🗣🗣💥💥💥
I'm a bit conflicted whether or not I want to buy the game now.
I do own a PS4 but I'd rather play it on Steam (I have my reasons) but I've read a lot of bad Reviews about the Steam-Release and on top of that my PC specs are just slightly above the Minimum requirement so I'm not sure if that would cause even more problems.
I (was) and am still looking forward to playing the game but it's a huge investment for something I'm not even sure I could play at least in its current state.
Probably other people might have (or have had) the same issue - but that's a problem with freshly released games in general nowadays.
sad to hear as solo player. had fun with the demo but if i can not progress solo with the AI i sadly pass.
thanks for the information
My wife REALLY likes Ys series (specifically VIII). Would this be a good gift? Looks really impressive and liked the demo.
She would only play solo, but the lower hour mark is not that much of an issue since we're both busy with kids and have less time to play those long RPG games anyways. So we prefer quality over quantity. Thanks :)
Not surely if you already bought it but a brief opinion: pacing is mostly excellent. There's little to no dull moments in the main campaign. The story is okay but the actual missions and gameplay are so diverse and entertaining you won't be bored.
Most of the game is after the game ends. Harder missions, more bosses and characters to unlock. So, if you want a game to hop back once in a while to kill am hour of play, you don't lose anything.
@@enman009 Thanks alot for your reply! Just bought the game. Hoping for the best. I'm looking forward to playing it myself as well :)
@@JanezKrnc-San I hope you love it! Some characters will feel right at home since your wife loves Lacrimosa of Dana (excellent game btw); just take your time and enjoy the smooth gameplay.
hi , anyone playing granblue on steam ? and i wanna know the feedback on the coop on steam , since its different than the ps5 right ? i really wanna know the online experience on steam before im buying this game . thanks
It's going to be a wait for sale for me. Already got Persona 3, Final Fantasy VII and Dragon's Dogma II to tide me over for a long while.
I'm playing Enshrouded and Palworld, but Still gonna be getting this. I want to play Persona 3 again, but too many good games coming out all at once. Good taste in waifu btw.
Any recommendations on what character to start with or fun to play with?
Legit depends on what playstyle you like.
There is something for everyone.
He isn't wrong, there's a character for just about every playstyle. Zeta is a reeeally good character for new players tho who want someone who's easy to use but has a SUPREMELY high skill ceiling. She is a dragoon who can buff her whole team and has a built in parry in her kit.
Io is not too mobile at the start but her damage is ludicrously high
@@mwbwyatt I opted for Cagliostro. Reason being, idea of traps, and mid-short range, paired with sigils that boost overall damage for how high of a health she has, lets me sustain high output longer :)
@@nathanrideout6126 I have 3 "mains" for different things.
1: Narmahya is waifu, and she does gain a LOT of skill expression later on.
2:Charlotta is probably the highest sustained dps if you manage to stay at 100% hp so for large, slow moving bosses she's killer.
3: Io is my 3rd when I need large amounts of aoe or crowd control. Gravity well OP for mobbing.
But I will likely pick up someone for each element for endgame content and maybe drop some , it remains to be seen
Play with whoever u enjoy
does the gear actually visually change the look of your char?
The weapon does yea
Its gonna be hard to decide what to buy. Persona 3 Reloaded, Granblue F Relink or Suicide Squad :D
That grinding really makes me not wanna buy it anymore, even though i like Zeta so much.
Thanks for the review.
I definitely need to find people to play with
That's a really good way to summarize it. It's a fun game to play unless you care about the story😂
11 hour story?...8 years development...damm
Much like MH it's got a story with endgame intentions.
Wish the story was also very long but it’s a good story for sure
The ONE and only drawback that I'm irritated with in Grandblue Fantasy Relink, is the lock-on mechanic. That thing drives me nuts when I'm fighting more then one enemy. And for what ever reason it likes to lock onto things that are like 50 feet away, instead of the dude that's literally bashing my head into the ground.
How does multi-player work in this game?
Kinda like Monster Hunter. You have a lobby, you pick your character, you pick, your sigils, everyone agrees that they're ready and then you go into the fight.
I like online. Soon on pc. Finally
I just finished the story, any longer and it would have dragged. I love MonHun so looking forward to post game.
So the story is short but would you say it short but intense to make up for the length?
@@koladearasanmi2005 The last few chapters are definitely intense. Especially if you just go through
Bro really sat there for 20 straight hours to play this game. I can never no longer do that since I only used to do that as a kid...for maybe 10 or so hours during the summer. Anyway ignoring that I already bought this game a while back and played it, but I'm still on the story. Almost done though. I heavily disagree with anyone that says "the story is easy" and always will. Gameplay experience between everyone differs since I almost had game overs about three times so far on just the normal difficulty. The bosses are no joke. Very fun game regardless of player skill and content and I'm getting very close to endgame.
I was so hyped when I played the demo and was going to pre-order the full game. However, I'm very disappointed with the full-game story. It's just one of Gran&Lyria never-ending journeys, and it's too short that it's not worth the price. The main story puzzles are preserved to milk the franchise for future games. I might have set too high expectations for the quality of its story to be as good as Final Fantasy's. Gonna put my purchase on wait for now.
It's amazing
idk devs said 20 hour story, most people need like 10 hours so the 100 hour endgame seems also really stretched especially since a lot of people already cleared the hardest boss in this game in roughly 25-30 hours.
alot of people sit at home and dont do shit 24/7 im maybe 30/40 percent in the game
So basically its like an MMO but solo?
So you can play offline?
Yes, you can.
I just reached level 30 for the first 6 characters in one day
That’s some slow progression
What up with this review embargo being 3 days after the release of the game? Why would any video game media agree to that in exchange for being able to play the game not say nothing until the a large chunk of the player base has already beat the story? Noisy pixel that defeats the purpose of being independent
They didn't give any press or creators early copies of the game. Everyone is experiencing the game at the same time so most people were holding off on reviews.
@@TagTheLegend Well, actually that's not true since ArekkzGaming got a PC copy and posted a video 2 hours ago.
Mostly spoilers, as that was the reason they gave during their live stream a while back.
Yes. A lot. 10/10 game
The progression sounds like Monster Hunter, which seems fun
Best game of the year só far. Im having a blast
The short campaign sounds like a bummer. I like that there's online stuff for people post game, but I would have liked at least 25 hours of main quest.
This game is amazing!
I feel like there s a lack of variety in bosses and enemies. I feel like I’m always fighting the same stuff
Even though the game is beautiful i feel like it will suffer the same as any anime game and loose its player base with in a months time, and since the story takes place later on in the main stories time line and the past part of the story is hard to experience since most of the story is only really on the Japanese mobile game people wont know whats going on.
Very disappointed to hear that the story is short, and nothing to write home about, but I think maybe everything else could make up for it. Art is beautiful, music is gorgeous, and the gameplay looks fun. As someone who has put a fair amount of time into Monster Hunter World, I could see finding the end game content enjoyable. I'll probably buy this when it drops.
Story seems way too short for a game that’s been in the works for nearly a decade. Ten hours of main game and 10 more hours of post game missions. Feels suspicious to me, like they’ve purposely cut story content to sale as DLC or even as a sequel later down the line. Tales of Arise is my gold standard for these kind of JRPGs, I’ve got 180 hours in it and I’ve only done New Game + and the DLC once. So I’m thinking Granblue Relink is a Black Friday sale game for ME personally.
it’s designed that way intentionally. the story isn’t long, but it’s all killer no filler. the meat of the game is the questing after. hundreds of hours of play.
@@kollatt I didn’t find any filler in Tales of Arise though. Every part of the story felt organic and authentic.
Dam 8h of story??kinda disappointed, still day one, but i was hoping for a longer story as it looks at its core a jrpg.
I do see myself to get hooked to the gameplay and stick to it for a while
Wait, everything is available just by playing? whhhhaaat
6 years playing GBF till now and fhe story is eeehh ... Kill , rescue someone , kill more , fight soldiers and armies , and kill more monsters ... But , yeah , some chars have great background (anthuria❤) hahahah
It’s so fun
I cant decide whether to buy Like a Dragon IW or Granblue Fantasy relink. Advice anyone? Granblue looks too much like a gotcha mobile game so im kinda weary on its future.
Well it has nothing of a gacha in it, so don't let that stop you at least. No microtransactions either. It's a legit, full experience.
I think the choice comes down to - do you want a long, deep story focused experience with the usual Yakuza charm or do you want an action focused experience more akin to Monster Hunter? Because the two games are basically on the different sides of the JRPG spectrum.
Just because the original game is a browser mobage game, doesn't mean there's also gacha elements in Relink. There was a free demo of this game, why not try it to get a feel for this game so you can decide whether you want to buy it or not?
there is zero percent gacha in this game so that already concludes one concern you have in your comment lol.
@@razzildarkbrew1952 Cool thx
RPG that isn't bloated but has great replay value > padded 70+ hour RPG
Think I’ll be getting Persona 3 R then maybe get this after
You did not do a good job at selling this game to people. If people didn’t want to buy it before, they’re not going to buy it now.
i dont think thats his job lol. hes just saying it how it is.
Aww.. I'm sad that it's so multiplayer focused. Guess I'll stick with Persona 3 Reload and Yakuza 8 for now until FF7: Rebirth. Nice review. Hopefully, it still has a player-base when I find time to get to it. Maybe that will add ways to grind faster as a solo player later on, but I hope they don't have the gall to make it mtx. Would be the ultimate deal-breaker.
It's really not. You can play solo, no CPUs if you want to during quests.
Sierro chan is not a guy :p
The only things stopping me from buying this game are 3 questions
1: how difficult it is/ are there different difficulty options?
2: is it too much grindy?
3: are there some minigames in it?
It get difficult as you progress in the story but not to broken I’m playing it on normal mode but there is a hard mode which I haven’t played yet , as far as grindy I would say it depends becuz there are a variety of different missions (quests) that you can play with or with ppl so depends on how much time you wanna invest in maxing out your character but it does take that long , and no there aren’t any mini games not that I know of
No mini-games per say, but you could argue that certain missions function like them? There are few where you have to man a turret and fire at ranged enemies or targets, among some other things. It won't likely be grinding to finish the story but the whole point of the game is playing through content to grind progression into your characters to eventually complete harder content. The missions have multiple difficulties and you'll be expected to play a lot to fully max your characters. It is effectively like a gacha game in that you spend a lot of time repeating content so you can get better materials and weapons to make your character better. Like an old school loot chase rpg, or better yet, Monster Hunter and games like it where you repeated complete the game's content to get materials for better armor and weapons.
the grind is only if you are trying to do end game content and maxing out ur characters and gear. as for simply beating the story mode it seems like anywhere from 8-20 hours depending on difficuly skill level and if you do side missions. and no there are no mini games like in the style of yakuza games for example.
@@Shad0wmoses another 2 questions
1: since this is a ps5 game does it have the support for adaptive triggers?
2: how long does it take to get max level with 1 character?
damn what a letdown, cus i would ve bought it 80% for the story, damn
So it's a gotcha game that was delayed and changed to be a rpg jrpg then delayed again to be a empty mmo...looks and plays like a mobile game and they cut it up to give 20 hours of story then grinding items...seems like a genshin impact game to me...and wants to charge full price...stop the bull.
nowhere near genshin combat here is much more fluid, in depth mechanics and etc. in gacha games you spend 500$ but you still not unlock the characters you like while here you can enjoy it in few hours
Lol steam really got a chokehold
This game has got me to stop playing palworld.
Without crossplay, this game will be dead on arrival for PC. Rip co-op
why does bro keep saying "ghandaNgoza"😭
Hard Pass.👎🏾
