I'm guessing that some of the lore around Tiamat and Apsu will change, but I'm not sure, it hasn't really been disclosed. Although Tiamat is technically a mythological figure, and not D&D IP, its become so closely tied to D&D product identity that I think Paizo will want to put some distance between them and the progenitor brand. That's one hell of a plausable deniability claim for the Andoran government. "Act of Dragon", only one step below "Act of God" on the scale of good excuses.
It's not exactly difficult to find out how the word for (or concept of) dragon originated in languages other than english in todays world. It originated in the concept of snakes for cultures as diverse as Sumer, Egypt, China and Schytia. Snakes have been mythologically important for humans as long as we have evidence and are important adversaries of monkeys to this day. Clearly we have evolutionarily developed to view snakes with suspicion and fear and it is no surprise that they hold such a prominent place in our mythology world-wide.
Combined the obsession with order of pathfinder's silver dragons, with the zenophobia against chromatics of D&D's silvers, but colored like whites, and you get Wings of Fire's icewings. ... The bronze dragons sound just like the sea-wing royal fammily, except they are blue, and have no breath weapon. ... Night wings are edict dragons who look like black dragons. ... coppers are like the sand wings from the squarpion's den, who tend to look more like gold dragons. (edit: clerification: sand wings are abit like a gold/copper/psutodraon hybred. With the personality of the copper, the gold's firebreath and yellow(ish) scales, and the psutodragon's tail-stinger.)
It’s sad future pathfinder books are gonna basically need to be treated like a new timeline because of how much lore Paizo is stripping to avoid any WotC drama.
I actually love the lore of the dragons and it’s really refreshing. Though a religious creation story, it’s very impressive. I didn’t know there’s a Draconic God in hell.
This is imminently doable IMO. Dragon bloodline sorcerer or some similar myserty for Oracle, and the story is you were cursed to stay out of your dragon form. Eventually you'll pick up the right spells to be in your 'true form' for longer stretches of the game.
I like the many horns on black dragons, and the design of white and blue dragons. But... Hard disagree on the red and green dragons. They need proper horns, and I like their DnD counterparts better I know must of this is filing the serial number off, still. I'll just homebrew my own combo when I switch to Pathfinder 2e
Just found your channel and it's great; I'd love to see a creature feature on ulgolthu masters, vidileths and their minions; I'm having trouble finding much on them and I'd like to use them in a campaign.
I'm actually working on an Alkenstar video as I type this, but its going to be a bit of wait before it hits the channel. I have a few other videos still to release between now and then. As for gargoyles, there are few PC races that have wings from the get-go. You might consider looking at something like The Strix and reflavoring that as a gargoyle if you want to play a gargoyle character. Or perhaps even better would be an Oread if you don't mind playing a gargoyle without wings.
It should be mentioned that dragon lore in Pathfinder is getting a rework. The rework in autumn is to avoid conflicts and to disconnect it completely from dnd and future prof it away from the OGL. Guess that means we are getting another dragon creature feature in autumn? :P
I wonder how will Paizo handle continuity changes with chromatic and metallic dragons going away with revision of 2e Pathfinder. Remastered edition will no logier have OGL dragons, but Paizo will make new dragons flavored as according to pathfinder magic traditions: occult, arcane, divine and primal.
I am guessing that the named dragons I've listed, especially important figures like Mengkare, will just be ported over to the new canon with new identities. We'll have to wait and see though.
If *sky* dragons have a *metalic* aspect, dosn't that just make them airplanes? I can't really think of any other way to bridge the relitively opposite ideas of "sky," and "metal."
Sometimes I think that the idea of a dragon is too compelling. Whenever a dragon presence is known in the game, the PCs will either immediately consider it a challenge to defeat (in case of evil ones) or a tourist atraction to visit (in case of a good ones). I think it would be cool to have dragons as just a part of the ecosystem, shaping the world around them without immediately becoming the focus of the adventure, but that's difficult to do. Assuming that adult dragons usually live alone, don't want to share territory, and don't like to spend night outside their lair (or leave the lair unattended for a longer time), I conclude that a dragon would control a territory with a radius being the distance they can fly in half a day (so that they could scout any place within their territory and return to their lair for the night). Considering the speed of dragon flight listed in Bestiary, it would mean teritorries around 100-150 miles in diameter. As there are many types of dragons, for almost any type of the terrain there's a type of dragon which would enjoy living there. As a result, the dragons would divide the land between them, reaching the maximal density. Only events like Dragonplague or mass dragon hunts could prevent them from doing this. Considering the sizes of countries, that's a lot of dragons, much more than there are mentioned in the gazeteers. Imagine that wherever you are, it's likely that there is a dragon lair within 50-70 miles from you, even if it's not known to the public.
That's a good analysis and if that sounds like an appealing detail for your gameworld, remember its your game and you can run it your own way. Because of the power of dragons, I do tend to make them a rarity, even though you're right that logistically, creatures of this power would probably spread to maximal distribution.
I love these lore videos. it has allowed me to learn more about the lore, I've actually gotten the Pathfinder Starter Box and after we finish moving I'd like to play it with my family. Really though the real thing that got me into the franchise were the two video games which are interpretations of Adventure Paths by the same name. I'd love to see a future series where you cover the various adventure paths chronologically: starting with the ones in First Edition and moving on to second edition. Also videos comparing the video games of Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous to their original adventure paths to see how they stack up in terms of adaptations of the two. For me I love Dragons. But I'm fairly certain we can all agree that the best dragon in Pathfinder is Aivu, Aivu is the best Dragon and I will die on that hill.
I will definitely do Adventure Path summaries on this channel eventually. My plan is to get through most of my region deep dives before I do that as I think those will be a lot of work. The video games are great adaptations, and an excellent entry point to the game. I think you and family will have a lot of fun with the tabletop game.
1:00:23 this reminds me of how humans react to animals, either in zoos or in the wild, killing humans. Most of it I'm sure is so the behavior doesn't spread, but I'm sure part of it is to show them who the dominant species really is.

I think a lot of things get renamed, but I don't think the setting requires a whole new timeline.
I actually love the lore of the dragons and it’s really refreshing. Though a religious creation story, it’s very impressive. I didn’t know there’s a Draconic God in hell.
Dragon 🐲
Hell yeah, brother! Nice work. Love the lore!
Thanks and you're welcome!
WOW EPIC LENGTH
Hehe! And this is only Part 1!
I wish i could play a true dragon in pathfinder. Quest alongside human companions and talk their ears off... i could only dream
This is imminently doable IMO. Dragon bloodline sorcerer or some similar myserty for Oracle, and the story is you were cursed to stay out of your dragon form. Eventually you'll pick up the right spells to be in your 'true form' for longer stretches of the game.
Will you make another video when the update core books launches? Paizo said they would add new dragons
Yes I will!
another great video keep up the great work
Thanks!
Thank you so much for the support Fangoros! Really appreciate the tip.
Red Dragons think their so badass until a Gold shows up and makes them piss themselves. Haha
poor hermeaians why cant the dragons just leave them alone on there peacefull island
❤
I like the many horns on black dragons, and the design of white and blue dragons. But... Hard disagree on the red and green dragons. They need proper horns, and I like their DnD counterparts better
I know must of this is filing the serial number off, still.
I'll just homebrew my own combo when I switch to Pathfinder 2e
Do it! It’s your game after all!
Although the rhino horn green dragons are the best!
You did grant my wish for dragons so now I must request a creature feature on golems.
Well you're in luck, that's something I'm working on right now...
eastern dragons make great friends on your journey to become a better person in mind and body
your preamble is top-notch
Thank you sir! I appreciate that :-)
Just found your channel and it's great; I'd love to see a creature feature on ulgolthu masters, vidileths and their minions; I'm having trouble finding much on them and I'd like to use them in a campaign.
That is definitely something I’m working on!
@@TheMythKeeper thats awesome, I'll keep my eye out for it :)
Thank you!
Hey mythkeeper are gargoyles a type of playable race in pathfinder?
Also can you do a lore video on alkenstar
Yep! I'll do a lore conversion video when the new canon comes out.
@@TheMythKeeper BTW When do we get the Azata video? They have always been my favorite of the heavenly trio. :)
Amazing and thorough as usual !Excellent work !
AMAZING CONTENT...I dont even play Pathfinder n Ive watched alot of your videos ...TY
Haha! Awesome, glad you're getting something out of the vids even if you don't play the game!
Wasn't Terendelev killed by the The Storm King in the Adventure Path, but by Deskari in Owlcat's videogame (primarliy to get the secret ending)?
That is correct
Excellent. I am playing a homebrew gold dragonborn. I need this info for character reasons.
Awesome, dig it!
Anxious to see the PFc (PathFinder Core) changes for Dragons.
They are moving away from D&D's metallic & chromatic dragons.
Yeah me too. I'll be doing a new dragons video after Remaster comes out, don't worry ;-)
I guess metal conducts electricity which can also be found in the air? I don't know, its weird.
Dude, where did you get that map?
Its the old Rob McCaleb original (plus my dragons) but I don't think that map is publicly available any more
I love these lore videos. it has allowed me to learn more about the lore, I've actually gotten the Pathfinder Starter Box and after we finish moving I'd like to play it with my family.
1:04:08 The auto-subs has this as Carl the Conqueror. lol. I imagine other dragons would be like "Oh. There's goes Carl again."
🤣🤣🤣
I love dragons, so this is great!
Thank you!
pd.
UA-cam does not notify me of this video.....
That's really annoying. You get the bell icon and everything?
@@TheMythKeeper Yep, to be fair it's the first time it happent to me with your channel.
@@israelmorales4249 Okay, good to know.
It woud be lovely for a change meet a dragon who's bake maffin's, not barbeсue with yuo as a main dish.
🤣
1:00:23 this reminds me of how humans react to animals, either in zoos or in the wild, killing humans. Most of it I'm sure is so the behavior doesn't spread, but I'm sure part of it is to show them who the dominant species really is.
Yeah true enough
Do you think we could ever get a video on dragons from other planes? (like havoc dragons for example)
Of course, I have Dragons P2 video not far out now.
I appreciate the veiled reference ca. 16:00 to the _Muffin Dragon_, one of my favourite illustrated books as a small child. I loved it when my mom would read that to me.
🤣
Weird, some of those breath weapons don't match what's in the bestiary. Edition variance?
130 comments and you're the first person to comment on this creator error. I have accidentally swapped breath weapons on brass and copper dragons. I wasn't able to re-record by I do not this on the video itself with a footnote.
You'd think that green dragon acids could generate heat because sulfuric acid does.
It probably does generate some heat now that you mention it...
Wait a minute, there’s fantasy depictions of China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam? I’m so confusing.
A lot of the pathfinder world is heavily inspired by real-word locations and history
Question : is there a way to get this notable dragon location map somewhere ? :)
really nice video
I shared it to my MythWatchers club members. That’s the UA-cam membership right here on UA-cam.
