This is actually true but on a much smaller scale. UK Veterans haven’t been in wars for a long time and British military has significantly downsized. Multiple British aircraft carriers are not manned by British soldiers but, American.
Veterans aren’t typically ruffing it out on the streets in the UK. Even finding a British veteran is rare. They are however giving priority to migrants for housing. But, this isn’t illegal migrants. These are migrants who have visa’s and made the journey legally. Including asylum seekers.
I think it sucks that migrants get so much preferential treatment. But, considering the labour market in the UK i see why they’re bringing in these low skilled workers. Its a major societal issue where the average British bloke is wasting his UC (Universal credit) on drinking at the pub rather than finding a job and contributing to the economy.
They say the migrants are taking the jobs. Yeah they are, since the people complaining aren’t taking those jobs anyways and high skilled jobs are out of their league.
The basic thing any country should look at is if you are bringing in migrants through law, do you know who are you bringing in, do you know their history and background. If not, you are doomed like UK, France, Sweden, etc and now America is on that path.

Can you elaborate on these “steps” to get legal? Because as far as I understand, these steps are pretty much non existent unless you have a family that sponsors you or if you win the diversity visa lottery. If not, you next best option is through asylum.

Having family here is the quickest way to get naturalised and even then like you said it takes 10 years, imagine what’s the process now for folks who don’t have that option. My wife came to america on a work visa paid all her lawyers etc it was thousands. for her to get a green card to get married i had to guarantee her financial support for 5 years. i signed a legal document for her support. She was NOT allowed govt support for 5 years I was responsible had to prove I had monies or job to do so..Who is sponsering these illegals support? No one is. plus no medical testing to insure they are healthy and mot carrying diseases. it was costly to do. Illegals pay nothing have no sponsor just get free everything. We have the same problem in the UK. 500 / 800 illegal immigrants come over the English Channel a day in Dinghies / Boats. They are then arrested and taken to posh Hotels. This has been costing the TAX payer around £6 million a day and has been happening for years.

This was after a civil war, and at the start of the industrial period for the U.S. not only were there less immigrants that came through then, but they were needed. It was on paper, a mutual relationship. My wife is Venezuelan and has been in our country for 6 years. So my biases are aligned with whats best for us. I can assure that all of the contributing people from her country, think the border should be controlled. They don’t support the violence that some of the immigrants are causing and they are embarrassed, as it is directly impacting them negatively.
