The way you started laughing in the silence following the False Knight's breaking through the floor suggests that Noobus Humanus' subsequent expression must have a real sight to behold - which, I mean, fair. I think I responded the exact same way.
I know it’s a great game and I love it so far but I keep getting distracted by other great games or I don’t have time I wAnt to play it but I don’t but I’m still very early in my adventure so I need to just get to the good part yk
It's telling how fair/ballanced the early bosses are in this games. On my second playthrough I didn't die once until my battle with the Soul Master in City of Tears, and even then it only took me around 4 attempts due to the long trek to get to him. Really glad Noobus Humanus enjoyed her run with the game
Yeah my first time I died a lot. My second time, it was a breeze. Just goes to show how the game telegraphs every incoming attack, and once you learn the tells and how to cope with the attacks and the timing, it's just a matter of reaction
You're right about that. I likened the boss battles (especially the ones in the later half of the game) to the fast paced head-to-head fighting games, like MvC2, BlazeBlue, Skullgirls, or even some of the faster moving Street Fighter games (all examples minus combo systems and juggles, of course).
I honestly didn't expect hornet to be such a wall. Also, is it just me or did it feel weird to actually hear the voice lines spoken instead of the normal hollow knight speaking sounds.
Hornet is a pretty difficult boss, especially if you rely on healing during combat. I was forced to limit my heals to the phase transitions before I managed to beat her during my second session tackling that single arena.
I know personally my strategy (which has lined up with other less game experienced players) is to throw myself face first at a problem till it gets solved which yeah creates this wall. The full soul meter I also get as I still do that for Soul Master making sure I’m topped off. Now I use it for spells but previously it was for heals to compliment a nail first playstyle
@@kabouterlui5935 Omg same. Putting it down to sheer bull-headedness in my case tho. That said, I really refined my combat and traversal abilities in the process so it was honestly time well spent. Once you get into the flow state it feels like a beautiful (if deadly) dance
I traversed the game up until having all three of the dreamers masks, before I notice I didn’t switch the thingy that opens up the ceiling back in mantis village. So when I came back fully upgraded with shadow cloak and twi time upgraded nail. I beat them super easily.
I would love to see how she would react to the dash. The dash feels like Hollow Knight's signature ability and is so much fun. It makes traveling and battling much more fun. And fast. A+ video once again. It's so much fun seeing you two have fun like this!
That's something lovely about hearing music from Cult of the Lamb being used as background in a Hollow Knight vid. Really shows Cult of the Lamb is also getting the attention it deserves~ Hollow Knight is in a class all it's own, but they're both gems!
Watching this, I saw myself in the Noobus when I had first played through Hollow Knight, since I didn't see her doing any upwards strikes or downward strikes in her fighting. Learning that was one of the biggest game-changers for me (even more so than the dash or double jump). I don't remember exactly when I found out that I could nail-strike downwards, but I think it was when I had to reach that one grub in forgotten crossroads with all of the spikes, and the only way to reach it is by nail-hopping. Learning that one mechanic changed how I fought *most* of the flying mobs, and helped me deal with others that would move quickly beneath me. I don't think it's ever told to the player in-game, but it's practically a requirement for later portions of the game (Queen's Garden and so on).
i love her bit about the game being fair after you talk about the vocal cues from hornet telegraphing her moves (even though her voice lines aren't specific to moves). wait till she finds out that 99% of the dark souls fan base would describe those games as "tough but fair."
That was a lot of fun to watch! The next game she should play is Ori and the Will of the Wisps/Blind Forest. Both are amazing games and given how much she loved Hollow Knight, I feel she love those games too.
I know it's not feasible to have her play all the way through Deepnest just for a video, but man I'd love to see her reaction to the trap bench at the top of Deepnest.

I spent the whole video thinking that it would have been a shame not giving credit to all the music, and I was so very pleasantly surprised by the very detailed list at the end!
The observation about the cute factor is right on the money. I fully blame Hollow Knight for getting me into games that kick my ass from one side of the map to the other. There's nothing quite like that feeling of overcoming something that seems impossible (i.e, Best insect Dad's murder-saw extravaganza.) The cute presentation (and music) was a big part of suckering me in to that mindset.
I can't stop laughing at the fact that she managed to cheese the first act of the big vengefly boss fight 😂 bec she couldnt stay at the platform long enough for it to lunge at her
One thing I noticed about her playstyle with bosses is that she'd correctly evade the attack, then move back into the place where the attack lands, getting hit. If she had committed to the action she'd already reflexively taken, she would've been fine.
