A few years ago really I got into Gary V. As it happens, I run a world class company with world class IP and high end clients. I thought, “hey, whey don’t we get Vayner Media to do some stuff for us?”. So, I called and set up a meeting (by phone) which I was actually quite stoked for. Day comes and I dial into the call. The girl assigned to our account couldn’t have sounded more disinterested in talking to me. I thought, hey, maybe I can break the ice by telling her all the cool stuff I’ve seen Gary V say on his videos and in his books. Turns out she didn’t watch his videos and hadn’t read his books. The call lasted maybe 15 minutes. Quite frankly it was hugely disappointing. This was when I knew his organization was smoke and mirrors, that he had a huge problem in that his personality doesn’t scale to an industrial sized business. Anyway, my personal experience with Vayner Media.

His company also has an abysmal employee churn rate. Overworks them and spits them out, in exchange for the "privilege" of having Vayner Media on your CV. Quite pathetic really.

Yep! Watch Josh Flukes videos on him. There was one where his team was hiring an intern in the heart of New York City for somewhere about $40k or less a year. This creates an uproar just because it’s Gary V, yet his finance team still decides to exploit people. No way anyone can really live off of that in NY so what do they do? Use their name to leverage. They eventually changed and raised the price but I thought it was interesting that his company seems to be a lot of smoke and mirrors.

His whole company is based about personal branding and how to pivot that into streams of revenue. If you watched or listened to a few hours of his free content and read "crush it" or "crushing it" you would have picked up on this. His stuff is definitely not for global industrial businesses

My thoughts on Gary vee are as follows; although he is all over the place he has made 2 massive social media calls. I listened to the audiobook of crushing it when I tried starting a business at 21 (it didn’t work but I made a little money) although the instructions in crushing it were unclear he made the following calls 1. Get on musically, it’s the next social media boom. Musically was bought out and it now called tiktok. 2. Make videos for Facebook, they want to become like UA-cam and Netflix and will start monetising videos. I listened to crushing it back in 2017.

Mike is 100% spot on about Gary. He really isn't a contrepreneur. He doesn't sell courses, he gives you the pillars that you apply to your own stuff. But his attitude and identity absolutely gets eaten up by the biggest losers who then go on to actual con artists selling Amazon drop shipping courses. I stopped watching ages ago, back when he turned from helping businesses to becoming a call-in therapist, but I always hated how people acted like he was another Tai Lopez-type.

I like Gary and i do think his content's very valuable because he does know social media and is a practitioner, his "macro thesis" tend to be right and he's always seemed good hearted to me, but this is pretty sad to hear and it does take away a bit of credibility from him. Success resources etc suck and i hope he's dealing back on those kinds of events. I assume the tradeoff is that he gets to make "important looking content" or that maybe he's cultivating relationships with people who hooked him up in the past when he needed that "halo status" more and I do hope he pivots and ends these shady deals.

Bro if grown adults want to spend $2k on a course, that is their prerogative. You are really infantilizing adults, many of which, are already somewhat successful and know what they are investing in.
It is par for the course in the United States for 17-18yos to BORROW 5-6 figures for shittier material and the sales process usually starts 10 years earlier

MIke just proved that GaryV is a compassionate businessman. But has money on his mind, and is doing it as consciously as he can . Mike doesne'\t understand storytelling and drama, there has to be a danger to look out for some kind of risk it keeps you with the main character, so when Netflix told him , we need a villain, and you were like no, I want to do PBS, they were like turned off because they knew it would not get views.
