Great video, out of desperation I used a handle from a 5 gallon bucket. It was already bent perfectly and worked like a charm. Thanks for the video
Thanks. That handle idea is awesome. Thanks for sharing. #whateverittakes
Thanks brother for sharing the bucket handle trick! As you say it is pre bent for the job, second attempt at threading it in….POP ! Came right open!
Is this hood latch method work on a 1970s square body
No, the 70's models you can remove the grille to access the latch.
Could you possibly make a video of how to do this on a 1970s square body I would really appreciate it
I remember seeing this video a few years ago when you made it. A few weeks ago I replaced the old cable on my 86 C20 must have been rusty. It was the original. The end of the new cable came out of that spring clip. I played for an hour. Then I came in and found this video. I was close but I needed a heavier wire. Used the heaviest welding rod I had. Worked in about 20 seconds !!! Had to squeeze that clip closed to hold it in. Thx👍
Glad it helped out.
fantastic vid. got my 94 open in less than 5 min. I appreciate you man.
Surly nobody will have a video online of how to open squarebody hood with a broken cable, i thought! Boy was i wrong! First video that popped up and very informative. Got mine popped within 30 secs of watching this video with a coat hanger. Thank you got a new sub!!
Awesome, I'm glad it helped out. Thanks for letting me know that it did.
Seriously been trying to get my hood up for months, and get frustrated and just decide to mess with it later. Just achieved it in less than a minute with ur help! Thanks!
Glad the video helped.
Hey Squarebody Stuff, this idea worked on my 1994 Silverado, very much appreciated with this thought, thanks man.Have a safe, new week.
I'm glad it helped on your newer truck too.
Best video yet my cable broke and I was furious but after watching your video I calmed down and got my hood open thank you
Glad it helped.
I had my doubts after messing around and cussing around with a screwdriver and coat hanger. But, seeing the way the "tool" was shaped and watching it in use made all the difference. I'm a MIG guy so no rods but used a hoop from the kids croquet set and worked the first time. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!
You're welcome.
Great vid! You did an excellent job with the open hood demo and then the real-life scenario demo. Many thanks!
Thanks, I appreciate the feedback.
After struggling with my hood for about an hour and a half I came across your video and got it on the first try 🤦🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️ thanks for the info!
You're welcome, glad it worked for you.
Dude, AWESOME UNDER 7 MIN. THAT WAS WITH MAKING THE TOOL!!! THANK YOU
Glad to help
Brother... 1st and foremost... Thank you so much for taking the time to post this vid... It saved my ass! Big time! Truly appreciate it.... As far as I could see, you're the only one with the best suggestion... Disclaimer, I didn't feel the need to look any further after finding your vid so there nay be others.
That said... And please understand I say this 100% to help you out... And save you time... Which we all know is money.... This video could have been two... Maybe three minutes total.... Should have been I should say.... Brother.... Hopefully, you're secure enough in yourself to take constructive criticism... Many "strong, tough, badass men" cannot take any criticism... Me, for example. One could tell me that this comment could have been two or three sentences... And I would just flip the F out cause I'm weak and we'll.... Just an f'ing pussy.... Hahahahaha! I'm a funny f'ing pussy... And I am what I eat.... Love da kitty cats! Hahaha hahaha... Have no idea why I'm going off on tangent after tangent cause I am not bored...
Here's how it should have gone:
Good sir... Thank you so much for your vid... Totally helped me out of a bind. It was so helpful, I'm actually making this comment 24 hours after utilizing the content of your vid... How's that for impactful!?
Only thing I would suggest is making the vid about three minutes... Ats about 10 min too long... Hopefully, that helps you.
Again... Thank you so much... F yeah America! 🇺🇸! ✌🏽
Great video, got my hood open after the cable broke loose from the latch. Thanks for the video, new subscriber here.
Thanks, I'm glad it helped out.
Great video, and your a very creative man, to make a tool for this problem. I have
a 97 Chev Lumina, and my hood is stuck closed. I don't know if I can do what you
did, but it's worth a try. To do this though, you'd need to have your hood open the
1st time, to know where the latch is, and configure some kind of tool, where you
can see what your dealing with, for measurements. Maybe you should invent this
simple tool and make millions :)
I just tried this on my 89 chevy S10 and it worked thanks
Awesome, didn't know it would work on the s10 also.
Thank you, hopefully this will work on a '85 S10 I just bought and found out the hood release cable is broke and it has a dead battery...
I love the wrench tat on your wrist. Thanks for the video
Thanks
Dude,,, you are my Square body Hero. This is the second time you got me out of a major bind !!! The first time, was your timing mark video, with the dot on the cam gears .....Thanks for all your time Bruhda !!!!
I'm glad to help out buddy. I appreciate you letting me know I was able to help. Comments like this is what helps to keep me going.
This video was ridiculously helpful. Kind of stumbled on it in desperation and I'm happy I did. Keep up the good work
Awesome, I'm glad it helped
Thank you, I will give that a try. I was going nuts trying to open my 82 square c10 with a broken cable and dead battery, thanks again!
It might take a little bit to get it, just be patient.
That is the same latch my 89 cadillac deville has thanks I couldn't find anything even close to this. And the way you did it is just simple...i waisted a bunch of time before I decided to try your video...im happy now I gotta find my wire coat hanger...thanks so much
thanks King, saved my bacon.. dead battery needing a boost
Thank you for making this video! It just saved me so much time. I was able to us a metal shirt hanger and did it in the first try on my 89 OBS. You rock!!
Thanks, I'm glad it helped
Thanks for the video. My truck had a wiring fire inside the cab. I've been collecting parts for a while now, and the trucks just been sitting. I was going to work on it, and when I pulled the release something broke. I hope I can make a tool strong enough to overvome the rust.
Thanks!!! I watched the video and I thought well this is going to take me a while but surprising it only took a few seconds to pop my hood!
Hardest part was making the tool because all I had available was a heavy stanlesssteel coat hanger (hard to cut).
Glad it helped.
It work with this info took me a minute to open thé hood, thanks once again
Awesome, I'm glad it worked out for you. Thanks for letting me know.
THANK YOU , THANK YOU...YOUR HANGER TRICK WORKED LIKE IN 5 MINS..My cable had came unloose...I will keep my hanger just in case...Keep up the good work♤
I'm glad it worked for you. And thanks for letting me know.
You da man!!!!! I have a 89 Silverado and I just snapped my cable on box truck yesterday too!
Thanks, hope it helps
@@SquarebodyStuff
You'd have loved my 75 Chevy C50 with a PTO dump bed I sold a few months back. A tank of a truck!
First vid on this I saw was a guy with a heavy coat hanger, he came the long way from the right. I fashioned a wire much like yours with a sheep's hook end and the same short curve, 2 minutes and the hood popped. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome
I don't know what is underneath the hood latch on the square body, but on my S10 ... once I got the hood open with the wire ... I drilled a hole directly under the latch so that I could stick a small screw driver up from the bottom and release the latch.
Thanks I used an old paint roller worked great
Heck yeah, great idea, use whatever you have handy.
If you put 90 degree, 1/4 inch bend on the end of the wire, you can go through that small hole to the driver’s side of the latch above the core support. Something about the size of a hog wire panel works great. Your way works great too. I just figured that’s why that small hole is there. 👍
Great helpful video to those in need!
It's helped several.
You are the man. Video was thorough and precise. Thank you
Thanks.
Nice job! I was wondering when this video was gonna come out.
I was gonna message you to let you know it was up,. But you beat me to it.
Excellent Dental trick took me all of two tries at 5 minutes and most of that was finding a wire hanger and bending it but it worked perfectly in two tries
85 c-10 in the Dutch West Indies. Gallon paint can handle worked for the fist pop.Cable coating completely dissolved. Would not let the latch back for the second POP. That is where the hit on the hood usually pops it. Not this time. Same wire was used to grab the cable itself and wiggle the out of it. Worked to the safety latch . Have new cable.
Thanks, I needed that.
Only C10 on the Island running and at work.
Just run into this problem on a 1985 c10 defenitly im going to try this, thanks for the info
It's a little tricky, but be patient, and you will get it figured out
Works on a 1988 r3500 as well. Thanks man you saved me a lot of time. It worked first try with a cheap hanger!!
Glad it helped out.
Took me 20+ minutes of trying but it worked!! 🙌😁👍
Gonna try this tomorrow on my old 87. Hopefully it works cause my headlight just died tonight.
It may take a few tries but it'll work.
THANK YOU AND NATE! You saved us!
Make a video showing each truck take your time be cool to see all your square body’s even the really junk ones 🤞
I'll see what I can do.
That my man was very informative. Thanks for the video
Thanks, and you're welcome. I hope it helped
YOU! Are the MAN! 🤘🏽 Thank ya sir! I hope you hit the lottery man! Life saver!
Glad to help out
You can also just pry up on the hood just enough to access the bolts on the hood latch then unbolt it then voila its open
I really appreciated this video buddy. It definitely helped me get my hood open and I thank you very much
You're welcome. I'm glad it helped out
Thank you it worked on my 92 3500. didn't even have the spring in my way. used a hanger.
Awesome.
It worked thanks for showing the trick
Awesome
Thanks for posting. Looked around a bit and hit UA-cam after not seeing a quick solution. My cables clip had slid off the arm
You're welcome.
A million thumbs up!👍🏻 thanks my guy!!!!!🎉
Glad to help out. Thanks for joining in on the live.
Your a lifesaver man
Glad to help out
Worked perfectly thanks so much. I used 12 gauge ceiling wire.
Awesome, glad it worked out for you.
Man worked perfectly on my 85. Took maybe 20secs.
Awesome
Your instructions helped out perfectly
Wow... my new release mechanism...
make my day thank you
I have a question is there any method on preventing the crack on the center of the hood. I've mostly seen it happen on the 80's on up???
Adding a brace to the inside front center helps.
Cool stuff. Thanks for the information.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching
Thank you sir!!! Your instruction was excellent. Got her open first try. I am in your dedt.
Glad to help.
Overall that video was helpful to my friend thank you
Thank god for this channel! #becausehoodsbroke.
#becausecablesbreak

Thanks, and you're welcome.
Fantastic, man you’re a lifesaver
Hell yes thank you,it worked 💪
Good video but I have a bug deflector on mine. I eventually got it but I'm telling you almost impossible.
Always good content cheers.
Thank you 😁
Thank you for the info. I needed it.
No problem, glad to help.
Great, I have a 84 long wheel base
I'm in my 88 k5. Snowing in Colorado hit some black ice hit a curb and my battery got jogged. Can't open hood. I could freeze to death.
Could you possibly make a video of this on a 1970s square body Becuase I have a k35 crew cab and the hood cable won’t move I would really appreciate if you could sometime
It might be a few days.
Okay thanks for letting me know
hey, ill have a video out this evening at 6:30 central about the 77-80 hood latch. I hope it helps out.
Thank you sir!!!
You're welcome
Tks mine just broke!
I'm def a Square Body guy but that Dodge in the background is cool...ive got a 89 power ram with 360 and holley tbi
That's one of my boys friends truck. The rear end went out and ended up here. Lol.
@@SquarebodyStuff I just started a channel myself...just a couple guitar videos...gonna upload some of my Square Body's soon I need a better camera or phone...check it out if you want...thanks man love the content 😎🤘🇺🇸
How do I get my hood to flatten out. 1994 Chevy 1500 Pick up.
Not 100% sure on that body style. There should be a way to adjust the hinges
Thank you sir. Works great
Thank you
You're welcome
Works great thank you so damn much!
man we took the long way around for that
Hell yeah bro
Got a 91 burban with the same style latch. Cant get it to work though. The hanger just keeps bending around under the hood and wont get anywhere close to where i need it.
Sometimes it takes a little bit, but it can be done.
@@SquarebodyStuff asked my mom for help. Took her almost an hour but she got it open and helped me run a new cable.
Thanks for the vids. My 78 chevy has a stuck hood. Theres no hood release in the cab. It seems to have wedged itself shut. The ball looking bolt has wedged itself under the release. Any ideas? Thanks. Cutting it open seems better
The latch mechanism on those is behind the grille. You can remove the grille on it to get to the latch if you need to.
worked
I cant a hook on it because theres a spring in the front that keeps getting in the way
You have to get behind the latch from the side. It's doable.
Good stuff, now try it with a piece of flat sheet metal. You can make a cardboard cut of the tool 1st.Get fancy and put a wood handle on it,lol.
Anyone just trying to find out how to do this without wanting to hear a lot of comments just jump to 7:00 mark
does it work on gmc
Yes
I cannot find the cord to pull on my 2020 corvette to open the hood
what about for a 72 c-10?
Wasn't aware that they had inside hood release.
@@SquarebodyStuff oh well maybe mine was an aftermarket
I think so, but I'm not super familiar with the 67-72 trucks. I know that the squarebodys didn't get the inside hood latch option until '77. In 81 it became a standard option that all trucks had.
@@SquarebodyStuff well I guess I’ll have to give it a look again
😎 video
How bout latch on 04 s10 blazer?
I'm not familiar with them.
I found one n its pretty much same but the guy used the antenna off his ride 🙂
God damn just show me already
Did you get your hood open?
You talk way too long besides getting to the point ed from Maryland
I'm aware of my ability to talk alot. Most of my videos are like that. Probably not the channel for you.
You talk to much
Thanks
Thanks that is a good idea. Have a great day. Thanks again bye...
That my man was very informative. Thanks for the video
You're welcome.
Thanks for the help!
