The word "Dollar" comes from the word "Tolar" which was shortened form of "Joachimstahler" this was the name given to coins minted in the town of "Joachimstahl." Joachimstahl is today know as Jáchymov. It is in the northwest of Czech Republic, near Karlovy Vary. Kubo, super job! I did not know origin of the word "howitzer" 👍

Etymology is endlessly fascinating, thank you for this. I learn something new in every video.
I liked this perspective. Also to me etymology has special place in my heart.
Thank you!
Very interesting points there. One thing I'd like clarified though: would a PÍŠŤALA be part of the arquebus family or something different again?

@@CzechoslovakGunStories If I hadn't already decided on moving over that would've been the deciding factor. As it is it's the cherry on the cake
Don't forget Zimbabwe!
Looks like Czechia needs to invent some words to communicate gun safety concepts.
Does "Houf" then again have German origins as in "Haufen"?
Yep, I suppose so... our two languages have been here side by side for centuries and Czech language uses a lot of German words even today :)
