My grandma bought us beer. She let me smoke cigarettes. While driving us home from school she bought me my first BB-gun when my parents woulden't let me. She let us lean out of the car to make snowballs off of the snow on the roof and chuck them at moving cars.

When I was 16/17 a new girl moved to our town and we started dating. Her mom was super hot and was always going on vacations and traveling with her fiancé, so we had the whole house to ourselves most of the time. That's where we, and all of my friends hung out, and then we all became friends. That's where we partied. That's where I tried LSD and salvia and ecstasy and all of the things. Virginities were lost there. But it was a safe zone, and a very important place to have at that age. Not having to hide your weed or worry about some parent walking in and screaming and kicking everyone out. It was just chill. We socialized. We listened to new music. We expanded our social circles. We learned what to do and what not to do. We rarely drank alcohol. Just lots of psychedelics. It's so important for humans, not quite adults, but not children anymore, to have a place of their own to experiment and learn what not to do before college or moving out on their own. This lady took it too far, but I get where she's coming from. Kids these days are so neutered by the internet and not being able to say the "r" word. Everything is whitewashed nonsense. It doesn't feel like kids even go outside anymore to get stoned and go on adventures with all their pals. It's just crazy that 30 years ago, this wouldn't even be a story, but now this lady is probably going to prison, which she should, because hosting sex parties for minors is fucked. But, man. The internet has changed everything. I feel bad for kids growing up right now, each one having the answer to every question in their pocket, instead of just having a conversation and wondering what the answer was, and trying to remember something you read, instead of Google it immediately. Our brains are becoming wired more for a hivemind, reliant on the internet, and we're losing short term memory because we don't need it anymore. What happens when the internet isn't there? People won't know how to breathe. People won't know how to lick their thumb to turn the page of a book.... I guess what I'm trying to say is we're changing as a society, and losing a very important element of our youth, and I don't think it's a good thing. These kids, turning into adults, are going to be weak, because of stuff like this. Because of correctness. Because of their reliance on potentially nothing. You can't magically learn how bad or good something is because you read about it on Wikipedia. You have to do the things. And you need "cool moms" for that.

@mrshs4332 lol no I was working for rent a center and she ordered a washing machine. But when I was there her son got a leg cramp and literally started crying and screaming for his mom.
I went to high school in the 80s. (An hour north of Los Gatos) Do you know how many parents went away on weekends and left their teenagers alone? A lot! We were drinking in houses where no adults were present. I did have one friend whose dad got her a keg of beer for her senior year party. He was Norwegian and was there for the party. Everyone was cool and no one got more than a little buzzed. I absolutely believe that Americans should treat alcohol like they do in Europe. Let teens have a glass of wine or beer with dinner. And they have low alcohol beer too. Then kids don’t get alcohol poisoning in college because alcohol isn’t a big deal.

Jesus, at 15 we were smoking dust and sneaking in to see Texas Chain saw massacre.
