My stove has a hopper that holds a 40 lb. bag of pellets (actually a bag and a half) so my stove can run all night if need be. So far it heats the house up in a couple hours, then I usually shut the pellet feed off and let it go out. I can turn the air intake down to control the heat output and so the burn chamber doesn't glow red hot, which will save the steel from deteriorating over time. My next project (almost done building it) is a smaller version of the same stove, using a 3" square tube, smaller burner so I can let it run all night. The 4" tube setup I run now works very well, actually, too well.
My basket design is pretty much the same, only 5" long and it burns 1000 degrees+. A secondary air inlet just ahead of the burner makes it burn so much hotter.
After using that kind of burner design, I found the stainless steel rods begin to self destruct over a weeks burning, so I decided to change the design of my burner. I copied the design of the Riley camp stove burner, which works much better and lasts a long time. I've gone thru a ton of pellets (50 40 lb.bags) and everything works as planned. My stove runs at a constant 350 degrees and heats my home toasty warm. By my calculations, I should heat my home with 3 tons of pellets for the season, which is around $650.
Adding a finer grate just under your burner will keep the small pieces burning in the chamber and not able to fall into the ash pan. That will give you a more complete burn and a finer ash. I got the idea from the Riley stove which uses two grates, one course and one fine.
Painter D That's what I'm doing, and it is excellent advice. I use 3x3 stainless mesh with .047 wire for the main screen, with a 6x6x.035 screen underneath. Burning four pounds per hour.
Have you had any problems of burning the stove? What about smoke into the house? Thanks. I am afraid of this so I am adding to the rocket the screw for feeding and the outside air intake so copying the comercial safety systems from that normal ones.
I know how many baskets you must have gone through just to get something worthy of the video. But when you get it to perform wel beyond 2 hours please show your thoughts on that. Anything you learn will be like manna from heaven when you post it. Thanks Bro
Sorry a few other questions, you said you get about 45 min. burn out off a full tube, would a bigger say hopper work to give an over night (more than 6-8 hours) burn time I want to build one of these rocket stoves but I don't want to have to feed it every hour, and are they safe to use indoors and run the exhaust up my chimney?
I made a Rocket stove with basket with in one hour the ash in the basket puts out the fire ,,,how can I get the ash to fall out of the basket ,,,started with 1/4 " gap and went up to 3/4" I still have the same problem,,,did you run into the same problem ??
They are made from pine sawdust normally rests of wood factories. In Spain they are 4.2 euros 15kg... 30lb It is not too cheap but cheaper than other heating energy. Cuality A1 add some kind of resine to help burning and keeping the cilinder shaped, I think.
No, there is no problem. But when they burn they may fall to fast onto the floor. So the balance between to get stuck as ash and to bung the sytem and to fall throug the grid is hard to find.
Okay, thanks. I have made a pellet feeder recently. It is smaller than yours, as my rocket is a slightly modified replica of Zero's. I do have the problem. The pellets I use might be too small and light - 6 mm in D. Or on the contrary - big? The distance between the grid bars is 3 mm...
Grazie per le tue delucidazioni, è perfetto per la mia caldaia a gasolio, questo era il mio problema,ti ringrazio tantissimo 👍👍👍👍👍

How is your burner desing to avoid red temperature!?

Thanks for this information. I will try it…. :o)

When there is too much wind outside it might smoke. The exauste pressure is not strong enough.

is this ordinary combustion or gasification? regards
Gasification.
Nice
what are these pellets made from? how much are they sold?
It"s a kind of pressed wood. Like wood with glue.

I like it!
Looks like the slats up front are way too wide
Coal?
Hi my friend, very nice work. What is the dimentions of your feeding tube , and what is the consumption of pellets per hour?
Hi...the dimentions are 100x100 mm. I don't know exactly how much pellets he needs per hour!? But I think the filled tube burns 45 minutes... :o/

Have you done any testing with wood chips instead of pellets?

Hi has anyone tried using coal in these rocket stoves say like pee-coal if not why
Tiffany Boyd Probably burns too hot, it may be doable if you build it a half inch thick.
Coal may
