First, I would watch a million of these, so please do make more! This comes at a great time since I have a huge project coming up that involves me creating a large moth piece, and while I had already decided against painting it, I was still waffling between whether to embroider or bead it, and now I see I could do both! It's likely going to be about 11" in length, and I'm so glad I saw this, because now I know I can work on it as a patch completely separate from the garment it's going to be attached to.
@@TheClosetHistorian It turned out wonderfully! She took much longer than I anticipated, but I always underestimate the time projects are going to take me, so that was almost a given. There are probably a few things I would do a bit differently (namely not making it so large!) but overall I'm happy with the results and will definitely be doing more in the future. I'm very excited to see you continue all of your projects. Perhaps a happy jewel bug friend for every completed ensemble?
This is like a really sophisticated version of those bead pets I used to make all the time in elementary school. Now that I've said that I feel an intense need to make a beaded frog to put on my jean jacket.
The universe must be channeling embroidery bc I have started trying my hand at embroidery… I am making a cape out of an old wool blanket, so I thought putting an embroidery design as a way to cover the, ehem, moth holes, would be quite clever. It is, in fact, incredibly time consuming! Yours looks fantastic, and I wish I had some beads on hand.
It is clever, and it's also a "thing." Lots of thrifty folk like to patch rather than replace. It used to be looked down upon because it showed the world you were too poor and low class to afford nice things. Now most people don't give a flying hockey puck what others think, and love to use their creativity to enhance their world.
@@bunhelsingslegacy3549 actually chain stitch is incredibly versatile. Just by varying the thickness of the thread and size of your stitch you can make anything from a heavy thick line to a fine whispy one. If you lay your heavy chain stitch close together it’s an effective fill stitch and it has the advantage of being great around curves, even tight ones. If you do a fairly large chain stitch in a fairly (not too fine or you won’t see it) fine metallic thread it looks like real chain laid onto your fabric, and because it handles curves with ease it’s a fantastic outline and/or lettering stitch. Chinese embroideries using just chain stitch and silk thread are amazing, and while I can’t aspire to those heights, I’ve embroidered many a motif using just chain stitch.
Very cool! I feel like you could do this very thing and make them into holiday ornaments. I have some vintage ornaments my grandmother made in the 1950s of things like little wreaths, other holiday themed items, out of felt, embroidered and sparkly with sequins and beads! Your project reminds me so much of those ornaments! :)
@@hanananah Cool! They really are the cutest ornaments, and I love that my grandmother made them by hand in the 40s & 50s. Some are felt shapes that she put a little stuffing in, then embellished with sequins & beads. Some are a ball shape, which I think are styrofoam spheres, and she made these cool patterns with ribbon & sequins by sticking pins into the balls. Just the coolest vintage ornament crafting. It's a testament to their longevity that in 2021, I'm still using them on my very own tree :)
Thank you! Ornaments sound super cute! It would be so fun to do a crafting night with friends with supplies and have everyone make a few over cookies and a nice fire in the hearth ❤
So pretty. I love these, they’re gorgeous. I’d love to see more….that beetle looks fabulous. I’ve needle woven butterflys’ with seed beads before but the embroidery adds a lovely textural note that’s very effective. Also just a note, and you may already be aware of this Bianca, and may just prefer to do it the way you did, in which case, cool bananas, but you don’t have to remove the paper loops from embroidery threads. Keeping them on just makes it a little easier to store the threads. The trick is, you don’t pull from the longer free end that’s towards the outside of the skein cos that’ll tangle. You need to use the shorter end that’s on the inside of the skein, which will pull thru cleanly. I absolutely love your embrodered, beaded brooches. The moths, both of them, are lovely. But what surprised me the most was the beetle. I wasn't expecting much. I mean, a beetle? It is exquisite!!! As much as I frown upon the cultural theft from the actual digs that happened in the 1920s, one must admit that the Archeologist look has been a major historical fashion icon. I think this video is also a great example of why handmade items like these are so "expensive". I don't think the average person realizes the immense amount of time and effort that goes into these gorgeous tiny pieces.

I am amazed! I tried to avoid watching this video, as I have had an irrational fear of moths since childhood. Early this morning, the house was quiet so I decided to take a peek at it. Seeing the images while listening to your calm voice and informative narrative allowed me to appreciate the beauty of moths which has resulted in a lessening of my fear of them. I was able to watch the entire video! Your moth pins (as well as the beetle pin) are exquisite. I especially like how you mixed beads, sequins and embroidery. Have you considered adding moths to hair accessories (e.g. making decorative moth hair combs, hair clips or a tiara)? You have inspired me to make a hummingbird pin using the techniques you employed making the moth and beetle pins. I already have beads, sequins, embroidery thread, felt and the necessary notions sitting in my sewing/craft room. I anticipate starting my hummingbird pin after the holidays. I have collected a small assortment of hummingbird pins, most of which are affixed to my hats. We are lucky to have hummingbirds year-round and I so enjoy watching them zoom around the feeders on our balcony.
Thank you for watching past the fear Janet! The best bugs are ones that don't move becuase they are jewelry I always say 😅❤ And hummingbirds are gorgeous!

Oh my goodness, this is so inspiring. I've been swooning over those travel lore brooches since you featured them a while back but it will be a while before I can afford one of those lovelies. I did come across some embroidered felt bug ornaments at Target a week or so ago and grabbed a couple to make into brooches. I may have to pull those out and get them converted this weekend. I can not thank you enough for making these videos. You have sparked my creativity and I am having a blast sewing beads and nailheads on to felt. You are a fabulous inspiration.
I loved this even though I'm terrified of moths! I wouldn't mind one of those brooches landing on me at all. Please do show us the making of the beetle brooch, it looks stunning!
In the past I have used a beading needle to quilt. It much easier to keep your stitches even. Neat and tidy. And I have lost track of how many of those I have snapped in half. Embroidery is so beautiful! I had never even thought of making a pin.
Yes. Please do make videos of Beatles and other bugs. Such pretty things to wear is fun and so worth the time to make. Thank you for the extra details and explanation!
Your videos are very relaxing and bring a smile to my face. Yes, please make as many of these videos as your time permits! Thank you for keeping life interesting and unique!
They are all beautiful! I'm always up for crafty videos. I've seen some adorable bee embroidery using that Turkish stitch, I will have to try it sometime :)
Hi, That, Ms. Historian, is almost even more impressive than your regular art. Those moths are fantastic. However the beatle!!! Almost unfair to just get a quick glimpse and then it's put it away. Is that what you native English speakers call a tease? Unless I'm too subtle here; YES! I would love seeing you make one of those. Yours, Ann
Please make more of these. You could do a whole beaded specimen frame of beetles, moths, and other winged insects. The ones you made in this video are beautiful.
Love love love these, and thank you for all the details on how to make them. Now I want two like the faces of my dogs. And thanks for making me yell at the screen, "where are the antennae?" until you kindly ended my neurotic fit.
Of course we want a beetle video 🖤🪲🖤 These turned out beautifully. Thank you for always sharing your creativity. I think I might have to make a Christmas moth for my dress this year!
You are so creative! Your timing on this is perfect for me because I need to repair some beadwork on a sweater and was looking for some techniques to make my work look less like "repair". I would totally sport the moths and beetles you made on all types of wearables - pin 'em to a purse, pin 'em to a hair tie, pin 'em on a hat, pin 'em on a lapel, pin 'em to socks, pin 'em to a scarf, pin 'em on shoelaces... so many ways to wear them. Thanks for this!
Absolutely amazing as always!!! 😍👏 I so wish “work” life didn’t interrupt craft and creating life as nothing would make me happier than doing just that😃😍
Unbelievably beautiful!!!!!!!! One of daughters will be interested in this as she loves butterflies and does amazing hand work. I hope that you wear these ALL the time xxxxxxxx
Yes to the question of would I like to see how the beetle was made! You have so much patience to work on one thing, especially a small item for 10 hours. You also have great eyesight! The male moth pin came out beautifully and will look so pretty on your various gowns or dresses. Looking forward to more of this type of video along with your dress/costume videos. Take Good Care
. Love love LOVE!! I have a chiffon "burnout " with giant moths that I used for the lining of my American Duchess 1910 cape. Now I think I know what I must do!
Please make more videos like this when you can. Love how the moths and their little beetle friend turned out.

I would definitely like to see a beetle video.
I loved this even though I'm terrified of moths! I wouldn't mind one of those brooches landing on me at all. Please do show us the making of the beetle brooch, it looks stunning!
Thank you! I think all bugs are best admired from a distance lol
In the past I have used a beading needle to quilt. It much easier to keep your stitches even. Neat and tidy. And I have lost track of how many of those I have snapped in half.
Embroidery is so beautiful! I had never even thought of making a pin.
They are so beautiful! Love seeing you making a beetle, too. 🤗
Thank you!
This is beautiful, I haven't embroidered in ages, but may have to get my supplies out & make something. So creative as always, bravo!
Thank you Julie! Break out those supplies!
Yes. Please do make videos of Beatles and other bugs. Such pretty things to wear is fun and so worth the time to make. Thank you for the extra details and explanation!
Thank you!
I would enjoy seeing a video on how you made that beetle. I love having these craftier videos worked in among the regular sewing videos, too.
Thank you!
*goes into the basement storage to retrieve my embroidery kit* such a fun hobby thanks for an inspiration refresher!
Um, you are a genius and we are not worthy of your glory. But holy cow, when you make accessories my mind explodes!! Huzza! Brava!
Thank you Thea!! 💚
Your videos are very relaxing and bring a smile to my face. Yes, please make as many of these videos as your time permits! Thank you for keeping life interesting and unique!
Thank you Kathryn!
They are all beautiful! I'm always up for crafty videos.
I've seen some adorable bee embroidery using that Turkish stitch, I will have to try it sometime :)
Thank you!
You are so talented! So beautiful!
Thank you Christena!
Yours, Ann
Thank you Ann!
Please make more of these. You could do a whole beaded specimen frame of beetles, moths, and other winged insects. The ones you made in this video are beautiful.
Thank you Alex!
Love love love these, and thank you for all the details on how to make them. Now I want two like the faces of my dogs. And thanks for making me yell at the screen, "where are the antennae?" until you kindly ended my neurotic fit.
Thank you! Must include antennae I agree!
Beautiful moths! Please show us how you made the beetle, it's so pretty!
Thank you Jane!
You don't lack patience at all my dear!!! Oh my goodness! this was FANTASTIC! Would love to see you make the beetle!!!!
Thank you Marie!
Of course we want a beetle video 🖤🪲🖤 These turned out beautifully. Thank you for always sharing your creativity. I think I might have to make a Christmas moth for my dress this year!
Thank you Natalie! Must have Christmas moths!! ✨
Thank you! ✨🧵
Yes to any andall videos about embroidery! I love embroidery
Absolutely amazing as always!!! 😍👏 I so wish “work” life didn’t interrupt craft and creating life as nothing would make me happier than doing just that😃😍
Thank you Norma! If I didn't have to sleep I could get so much more made 😅
Ooooo I’d love to see a praying mantis!!!!!!!!! These are fantaaastic!
Love it! Would be interested in seeing your take on a bee broach.
Thank you Emily! I think a blue carpenter bee first ✨
They are GORGEOUS. I don't know how you have that kind of patience, but my god it was worth it.
Thank you! I just get a sort of zone 😂✨
Love them definitely want to see a beetle video
Thank you Stacey!
I adore watching you beading/embellishing and would watch as many videos on this that you would care to make
Thank you Emma!

This is wonderful, to look at, to listen to, and hopefully to emulate!! A resounding yes to a beetle video, too.
Thank you!
Unbelievably beautiful!!!!!!!! One of daughters will be interested in this as she loves butterflies and does amazing hand work. I hope that you wear these ALL the time xxxxxxxx
Thank you Alexandra!
Oh gosh, they are so beautiful! Have to say I love the female moth most, so chonky and yet delicate and pretty :)
Thank you!
Wow! Your beading is always so fine and well thought out. I would love a beetle beading video!
Thank you Flynn!
Thank you Peggy! ❤ My eyes work great for close up, far away not so much 😅
Moths are my very favorite insect! I think you'd like the Spanish Moon Moth, because of their shade of green and elegant, almost art nouveau lines.
Oh, love it. The fluffyness of the moth is such a nice touch. I'm just starting with embroidery myself.
Thank you Rara! I had to make it floofy 😂
.
Love love LOVE!! I have a chiffon "burnout " with giant moths that I used for the lining of my American Duchess 1910 cape. I've been wanting to showcase the fabric in something else and just found out that a family wedding this summer is black tie, so I wanted to make lace or beaded moths to complement the fabric. Now I think I know what I must do!
OMG. Please make more! Would love to watch you make the beetle! It's so satisfying to watch :)
Thank you!
So beautiful. And so is your dress!!! You should produce these and sell them on etsy .I would buy them for sure!!!
Thank you Heather!
Yes to the beetle! I don’t know how to embroider and have never attempted beadwork but suddenly I need them all
Do ittt!
You are too modest. These are every bit as stunning as Trovelore!
Thank you James! If I took a whole week away from work I could make one as fine as theirs perhaps 😂❤
You've got me obsessed with insect art, and I would LOVE to see how you made the beetle. So inspiring!!!
Thank you Rachel!
This was so great! I would love to watch more bug brooches and bead work.
Thank you Charlene!
Very lovely! Impressive. I am mesmerized, so please do make beetles, bees, butterflies, bats, barnacles, oops, got carried away. But do make more, ok?
Thank you Elaine!
