    Fun fact: so I work for the largest automotive glass installation company in the world, and cleaning the glass for preparation is the most important step to get a good seal on any vehicle. We use a foaming glass cleaner that is made by the makers of ‘Sprayway’, who hold the patent on creating a formula for a foaming glass cleaner. They literally make the solution that goes into the Amsoil glass cleaner cans Cody is using, except the Sprayway cans at your local grocery, convenience, hardware, or auto parts store is roughly 1/3 the price. And it’s the same stuff. Amsoil is a good brand but I know there are lots of people out there, like myself, who can appreciate getting the exact same results for a fraction of the price.

    • @berryreading4809
      @berryreading4809 2 роки тому +6

      I was gonna say that looks an awful lot like the classic worlds best glass cleaner, you have confirmed my suspicions!
      I guess they must still have an active patent or no other company can quite get there because I haven't come across a similar product that foams in that specific way, yet doesn't stain or streak terribly 🤔 Every time I'm at a hardware store, supply store etc. that sells it and see someone reach beside and grab something like windex or ammonia glass cleaner I just quietly watch in disappointment 😆

    One thing Ive learned from you and try to emulate is your care and maintenance of everything you own. I think that getting lost in the care and maintenance of things is truly fulfilling and an essential aspect of enjoying life. It may seem dull and boring to some, but cleaning the grime off of something or sanding and oiling a tool handle or cleaning a pair of leather work boots is a very satisfactory feeling and it gives you a fresh jolt of pleasure every time you look at your well kept possession.

      @@chriscroley9279 I agree but it's impossible once you have a garage to then downsize with intentions to get a garage. It's been one of the most disorganized disasters I've ever had to deal with. My tools are scattered in bags among vehicles and in tubs. Thankfully I'm in the right direction to have a 32x48 shop built. I've dealt with this for going on 6 years with this agony.

    As I see other men posting tips, here’s one: always open valves all the way and then 1/4 back. This way when someone tries to open it they feel that it is already open, and won’t damage the seals by applying too much torque. (English is not my first language so) I hope this made sense! Thanks for the video’s Mr W, all the best. Love the community that has been established here.

      I've habitually done this for years, also keeps the tensions off the valve stem. But it bit me a few years ago when I shut down the gate valve between my home heating oil tank and furnace to replace the inline filter. All went well, spun the gate valve back open, then cracked it back a quarter turn. Well, a month later I couldn't figure out why my furnace was running rough, sounded terrible, tech was pouring over the whole thing couldn't figure out what was wrong until he found that gate valve almost closed. The vibration from the furnace had slowly spun it down until it was starving the blower.

    • @caseyryan228
      @caseyryan228 2 роки тому +3

      Yeah. That is a good one. You don't have to go a full quarter turn usually but at least a little bit. Even temperature change can cause valves to jam when they are all the way open.

      I was taught this except for gas bottles. Like propane, acetylene, butane, ect. Only open those a one full turn, since their pressure is regulated down right away one full turn is plenty and it's way faster to turn off if something gets out of control.

    When I was still working in the wrecking yard in Portland, I used alot of Amsoil Power Foam. It worked good for freeing up stuck engine valves and removing carbon build up in the cyl head that was so bad at times you couldn't get engines to fully turn over without locking up. It was a great engine degreaser also when I had to get a engine out the door quick and didn't have time to use the Storm Vulcan parts washer. I liked their synthetic grease also.

    That's a nice cart configuration. I got a small makerspace, can't compare it to that nice big space. A cart won't work in my situation. I keep everything in clear plastic crates I bought at a cheap store. Super nice with folding attached lids. I got one with safety gear, so different styles of eye protection, hearing protection, masks, gloves. I got 30 crates in a rack, all labelled, super nice. Then under the workbenches are the bigger ones. My workshop is 3 by 6 meters, or about 10 by 20 feet. Everything has to be compact. If I need anything, I just grab the crate, get the stuff out, go to work. But still enough room to build custom bikes, knives, furniture, all sorts of stuff. You don't need much room if you organize.

      Try an elastopolymer E6000 or gorillas version along with clear Lexel, lexel sticks to everything... or even better some loctite polyurethane construction adhesive, the "3x blah blah blah" is the best version for the money/versatility... The basic stuff doesn't flex well and the higher end overpriced stuff is only useful for immediate tack, not ultimate strength. Happy adhering 😉👍

    • @gexploits
      @gexploits 2 роки тому

      @@berryreading4809 unfortunately I've tried gorilla glue and PL Premium (both max and 3). As well as T-88. I have probably 4 or 5 of those trays from various brands over the years. Relatives consider them an easy gift idea. I'm just hard on them. They bounce around in toolboxes and bags, trucks, tractors, etc and eventually break, or get stuck to and pulled from different components so many times it eventually breaks free. I'm sure temp expansion and contraction in the tray doesn't help.

    • @berryreading4809
      @berryreading4809 2 роки тому +1

      @@gexploits not gorilla glue, gorillas version of E6000 (similar to shoegoo) Lexel doesn't have the ultimate shear strength, but has incredible bond strength and sealant properties, honestly better than E6000 although not rated for the same industrial applications... But as you say nothing beats mechanical fastening at the end of the day 😉👍 also my favorite fastener trays lately have become the silicone style collapsible with embedded magnets, both kinds have their place, but for my service boxes/any travel tool boxes I have the collapsible trays are invaluable... They too though have a weak point across most brands, the top reinforcement ring tends to separate or fail after extended use, no great fix that will ever make it like new around chemicals and oil, so I usually rotate those to the "projects taken apart that I'll definitely get around to fixing later" shelves 😄🤦‍♂️ One day I'll have the time, maybe after I'm dead I'll get started on it 🤣

    hey,
    doubt you'll answer, even so, if you see this I honestly enjoy your videos and don't know why I haven't subed sooner.
    Just as a quick background i grew up in a christian environment. (I'm not anymore for various reasons)
    I'm just curious if there was someone that lived his live as a moral man (not as a christian but similar principles) would he be someone that you could consider to be trusted and close to you?

    You can also get carts at harbor freight. I can tell you I own a Snap On cart and for the the normal home owner it will be fine for decades and you can probably buy 5 for a Snap On cost. I don't know what a Snap On us now but in thr late 80's I gave over 700.00 for mine if I remember correctly.

      >$700 in the 80s!?!? What?!?! That's equivalent to over $2k today. That's insane. You'd have to be dropped on your head to buy that simple cart with some bent tubing and sheet metal pans for >$700 30+ years ago. I buy stupid expensive tools, but that's almost like snap on us using it to figure out who they can really sink their teeth into. If they buy that, snap on knows they'll buy ANYTHING.

    Where did you get your shirt and what type of shirt is it? For example just a standard western shirt or is it an FR welding shirt?

    Is the mud slinger any good for motorcycles.
    We get a lot of salt down over the winter which corrodes fasteners etc.
    I use a product called ACF 50 which works well but is awful to clean off come springtime.

    All of you lowly amateur homeowners can also use these or any other products not mentioned in this video. You don’t have to be a Pompous Professional Homeowner.
