    It's not Chelsea's fault that the rest of the league aren't investing as much money. City, Arsenal and United are richer clubs, Arsenal W generate more revenue. Its about investment, recruitment and a culture of winning. As long as we're sustainable and consistent, no problem with spending some of The Toddfather's cash

    I have no sympathy for the other clubs complaining about chelsea investing into its squad. Arsenal flirted with keria for over a year and " supposedly " offered a million dollars. Yet she goes to chelsea for half that? What was the point of selling out the emirates if you weren't going to reinvest that money? I believe chelsea is exposing the lack of investment and care that the other clubs have for their own futures. It's time to put your money where your mouth is or introduce a salary cap to make the league " fair ".

      As an Arsenal fan I agree with you. If the clubs with the money step up, it'll be a 3 or 4 club league, but that leaves 3/4 of the table in the dust.
      Those teams will never get the overseas following and will take years to bring in a good crowd. They can try the recruit/develop/sell model but that's also tricky.
      The lads' point that a million for a class player is chicken feed for the high profile clubs is dead right. That's 1% of Declan Rice's transfer fee and it'll look really cheap in a year or two.

      @@lllordllloyd i completely agree with most of this except for the idea that not all clubs in the WSL can’t afford to invest like a Chelsea. Crystal Palace the bottom of the table team is worth £2.44 billion. There first WSL player is worth £364k. All the teams in the WSL are run by premier league giants. This extends to the championship as well. Newcastle is literally the most expensive football club in the world. FFP doesn’t work if all the clubs are owned by a load of billionaires.

      @riittarankinen4749 the players are paid employees. They're not a family, we're not running a charity. The goal is to get bigger and better - not everyone will be apart of that journey. According to her interview published on Chelsea's website, Walsh is sure her " dad’s looking forward to watching [her] play every week" That presumptuous statement alone would not sit well with me if I were in the Chelsea squad. Eve Perisset just left the club because she wasn't featuring and Zecira Musevic hasn't played a minute in the WSL all season. Both are established internationals who could lose their positions in their respective countries' tournament line-ups as a result of limited playing time and yet here comes a former adversary (who will have gloated at Chelsea's expense in the past) expecting to stroll in and play for them every week? I know she probably didn't mean to be taken literally but it's a sensitive topic when you aren't getting on the pitch week after week.

    • @TheWomensFootballChat
      @TheWomensFootballChat  3 дні тому +7

      I think you're digging too much into it tbh. It reads to me more like she's happy her Dad can come and watch all of her games rather than only the occasional matches in Barcelona, because he lives in England

    • @way2deep100
      @way2deep100 3 дні тому

      @TheWomensFootballChat Like I said, I'm sure she won't expect to be taken at her word but players whose families only get to see them warm the bench every week if they're lucky might be less understanding than you or I as they perceive themselves moving further down the pecking order.

      Walsh will play every week. Zee and Eve are just not good enough as Chelsea improve

    • @way2deep100
      @way2deep100 3 дні тому +1

      @@wilsonfamily1762 Even if I agree with you, they will be saying they are not getting any opportunities to prove they can cut it amongst the improved Chelsea but that's not my central point. For Walsh to play every week, someone other than those two, a midfielder, has also to be deemed not good enough. More to the point though, whoever is in the crosshairs to perhaps make way for Walsh would have to feel like they're not good enough for her comment to not come across as arrogant. "I want to play every week" is fine and may even motivate her competition. "I'm going to play every week" might instead motivate someone to accidentally give her a tap during training. But again, I doubt she meant it to come across the way it may do to squad players who rarely get to even warm up.

    • @cfcriley
      @cfcriley 3 дні тому

      No one has a divine right to start every game or play every game. The manager will pick an 11 and pick her subs. The players who feel like they need to leave in order to get minutes elsewhere are free to seek out other opportunities.
      Fans, especially of women's football, tend to get super attached to their players, but at the end of the day the players are paid employees. And some will leave. Others will come in. And yes, some will play more games because they're better players or because they fit the system better. And let's get real here, if a club legend like Guro can hold bench, then ZM, JRK, Bjorn, Nusken can all have a seat.

    The cynic in me believes the Chelsea owners see so much growth potential in the women’s team because they are one of the biggest 3 teams in the sport. The sport is so young and they can create a legacy similar to the Reals, Barc, Bayern or utd on the men side.But with the men’s team with the smaller stadium and huge wage bills and transfers they are deciding to be Brighton until they can grow the business side more.

It's great for Chelsea fans and the team but it has me concerned for the sustainability of the league. It will be difficult to raise the popularity of yet another women's league with a clear top team every year. The popularity of the wsl started growing when Chelsea and city started competing with arsenal and made things interesting then the euros win brought a massive wave of interest that stuck because the league was interesting. Chelsea women only turned over around £11m last season with a loss of 5 million. How much will they lose this year ? Just don't think the men's clubs should keep subbing the WSL.
