I tried to pay for the Rolex over the phone with my credit card, but they would only let me put a deposit down. I told my boss I had to go take care of something very important. I left work and drove straight to the AD. It was a really nice day.

This isn't just the supply/demand imbalance being rectified. It goes to show why many don't like Rolex. One person asks and ends up on a list forever. A prior customer (that they just happened to disappoint) gets one that they hide in the back for the right people. I have heard plenty of stories like this. One person gets laughed at, another has everything to choose from in the safe in the back.
I think some people do not pick up what they ordered. Especially when market value is below official distribution price. I saw recently white gold submariner available in AD.
Super late comment, but the video points in this direction lol. Guy walks into AD, says he has a history with Patek Philippe, AD says the store is losing their license, brings out the Submariner so he won't lose the customer. It works hook line and sinker.
I don't want to "build a relationship" with my AD by purchasing jewelry from them that I don't want. Just take my money and give me the watch that I want.
Do not go to an AD that is also a jeweler. They will almost always entice you (subtlety or overtly) to buy diamonds. If you have only one target Rolex in mind, then go to a gray dealer and pay the premium. Once and done.

The Submariner No-date is certainly one of the most beautiful and clean watches from Rolex. You can wear it every day and it also looks fine with a tuxedo. Congrats 🎉

Congratulations on your Rolex purchase. This corresponds with the continued decline in luxury watch prices. The more pain (rapid price decline)we can inflict on the watch flippers and that are not true watch enthusiast the better.
The flippers are inactive now. No profit anymore for most Rolex. I wonder how many people on “the list” are getting the call then declining it. It might pick up in demand this fall/ winter.
Been on "The List" for under 4 years with my Rolex AD. Finally today I received an email telling me she hopes to be calling me soon with good news and of course I responded immediately. I think after almost 4 years of no word she is telling me get your money ready.
One of the AD’s I use, which is the largest one in my country, is saying something similar about the personal experience, and allocations. He also told me that Rolex expect the AD’s to carry les stock and rely more on specific request, which correlates with the personal experience. However, they don’t expect significant changes in the secondary market. They usually see a lot of business during summer from Asian tourists, but this summer has been very slow, which give them headache in relation to bringing the inventory down as requested by Rolex. They are normally stocking about 50 Rolex watches. He told me that they mainly see interest in watches during spring and fall from locals. He does however say that Christmas isn’t the time for watches. During December, they sell jewellery and not watches, which was a bit of a surprise to me.
Interesting information. The ADs I have seen here still have display models, but very few in stock. The number of exhibition pieces correlates with the size of the store. The one at Short Hills Mall in New Jersey is huge. With dozens and dozens of display models in several different rooms (but only 3 left out for sale). I normally expect Summer to be slow for demand, but I always assumed Christmas would be very bust with demand.
This is the game which is sickening. A similar thing happened to me with an AD in TX, which was great for me, but when I first walked in the AD swore up and down they have nothing for sale other than the 31mm ladies OP at the front. Finally deciding to do establish business with this AD, I bought the OP for my wife. Load and behold as we were sizing her watch the guy pulled me aside and asked me if I would be interested in a nondate Sub (which he swore was impossible to get because so many people wanted it). I left with 2 rolexes that evening

My junior SA was seemingly instructed to say that nothing is available for sale. But once my purchase history is recognized, things open up. It’s a game that has to be played… If you want that watch bad enough.
Of course here in Europe Rolex has or is purchasing Bucherer which is a very posh high end watch and jewellery retail group. I went into their store in Paris to try and order/get a Submariner date green bezel. They had already called me and invited me to visit them so I was welcomed by a lovely lady who smiled lots and kept thanking me for choosing Bucherer to buy my Rolex from. She showed me several watches and I tried on the one I would like to buy. She assured me they would be able to obtain one for me in due course. That was in September this year and so far I have heard nothing. Not sure I expected anything this side of Christmas but we live in hope.
If she seemed genuine, then it may still be possible within the next 6-12 months. But I would recommend revisiting them before that, to re-express your interest.
I also have the blue bezel White Gold Sub, the so called BlueBerry. She’s a beautiful model, but heavy and needs to be fitted properly to not have it move around and feel uncomfortable. The Blueberry was my second purchase at my local AD, a milestone celebration piece. Congratulations on the piece and wear and enjoy her in good health.
I was offered the Blue Bezel White Gold Sub recently while picking up my Explorer 36. They brought it out from "the back". I was BLOWN AWAY by how stunning it looked under the AD lights. I had to do a double-take, it looked amazing in person, better than pictures. I just wasn't ready to drop that amount of cash at the time. But good pick-up!
I saw this piece on display for sale in Gothenburg, Sweden recently. It was stunning and so very heavy in a great way. I was so tempted but reluctant to deal with customs so I let it go....

I recently did an exchange deal, my 'Smurf' Submariner for a black ceramic Daytona. That was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life and I regret it every day!

I walked into the AD at Mohegan Sun in Ct just looking they had some Rolex models on display nothing for sale i liked the 2 tone Sub black and yellow,,I had previously owned 2 black and stainless over the years and sold both, they said they could order me a 2 tone black and yellow but no guarantee it could be delivered , they took my info and said they would call if one came in,, 6 weeks later they called and had one for me, regrettably i paid full retail plus tax. retiring in Sept so it is my retirement gift ,i love it.....
How do you go about accessing the most senior person in the store when you are newly developing the relationship? The way I have seen dialogues play out is, walk up to velvet rope and speak to whomever they assign to greet you. Do you suggest asking that person to go fetch the owner? Maybe? but it seems like it could alienate them off the bat....
You need to be delicate about it, but I think it can be done. After you finish speaking to the Sales Associate, perhaps just ask in a gentle and nice way, "May I also introduce myself to the manager/owner?" Just make it look like you want to get to know everyone in the store.
Love to hear the feedback. My buying experience was 'different'. Very efficient, in and out. Good, but then again not much of any prolonged chit-chat... The watch is superb. Excellent watch.

Congrats! I’ve heard a few stories like these in the last few weeks. I know someone who is a secondary dealer and said they are now buying Submariners at retail which hopefully weeds the flippers off since there’s no profit. I also heard Patek is closing more doors which is really unfortunate. There’s only one Patek AD in my state. Best of luck on your journey and enjoy the Sub!
I have heard the Rolex stories too. Submariner supply coming in. It might be due to the lower seasonal demand in summer, combined with the recent price increases, which deters the flippers because of lower margins. It Could change during the Christmas season if demand picks up. But I'll enjoy my Sub right now, I did not hear about the Patek consolidation until now, so it was a shock to me. Bad news for me, but I'm looking for a new Patek AD.
In time, their greed will get tge better of them, and inventory will be up to where they cannot even back door it to greys. Then we can laugh at them. What a system.
Congrats! The graduation from Rolex to Patek is natural but I think many fall back to Rolex eventually as you cannot beat the quality and overall usability for the price. Still I also plan to graduate to Patek one day soon!

I think my purchase history helped, but MORE than that, talking directly to the Owner of the store made it happen. The first salesperson had no authority to make the sale, and she told me it was not available, even though she must have known it was sitting in the back. Only after talking to the Owner, he was able to release it to me. Having connections really helps with getting in-demand pieces. I'm thinking this is mostly how people get the steel Daytona and steel Pepsi. Purchasing an Explorer and Datejust will certainly help, but talking directly to the senior Manager/Owner will speed things up immensely.
Same here! I have a relationship with an AD and got a Rolex. They also sold Patek. My goal was to collect various time pieces Rolex + Patek. However, in February of this year, their Patek account was closed as well. Unfortunate, but I still have a great relationship with them.
That's a good coincidence. I had a one prior Patek purchase, and was trying to get a second Patek. But no prior Rolex purchase. I was sorry to see the loss of future Patek from here, but I was then able to look for another Patek AD.
The only other Patek dealer is also associated with Rolex in the main part of the city. However, I have had not so great experiences with them. Twice, the associates I worked with left and was not informed. Very dry interactions. Was your Patek purchase because you had other purchases with them? I did notice their associates on the Patek side were a bit more warm than those on the Rolex side.@@sc1
With my First Original Patek Purchase, I had no prior purchase history. I explained that this is the closest Patek AD to me and I would like to start a Patek collection. I dealt Directly with the Owner of the store. The other sales associates were not authorized to deal with Patek sales. (Even on the Rolex side, the sales associates are not authorized to reveal what stock they have "in the back") I was lucky that he had a Patek 5205G on display and he agreed to sell it to me. That is why I always recommend to speak with the o\Owner or the most Senior sales manager. The junior sales people will not be able to help you, unless they later get permission from management. With my Second Patek Purchase at my Next AD, I also did not have any purchase history. But I came in wearing a Rolex. I dealt directly with the Assistant Manager and he agreed to sell me something else they had on display... My video on this is coming up.
I was at my Rolex AD yesterday. They had 2 women’s watches that had very small faces and were in the $40,000 range. Congratulations. The AD doesn’t want to lose you as a customer, since you won’t be buying any Pateks there. Why would Rolex have to reward an AD? The AD sells every watch.
@@sc1 What angers me is there are pages full of Daytonas on the Grey market. Somebody is getting these watches. I have a 30 year relationship with my Rolex AD. I went to buy a watch for my wife. Despite our relationship, he wanted a $5,000 deposit and promised me the watch in a month. 6 months pass, no watch. I took my deposit back. I bought her another watch, for a ridiculous amount of money, from another store, that wanted my business. After 14 months the original AD calls and has the watch. I told him no. I actually felt guilty, because I might want something in the future.
@@rickjason215 There must be some way to track down where these Daytonas are coming from. For instance, I heard Rolex is buying these watches from the grey dealer site and checking the serial number to find out which flipper it was sold to. especially the "new with stickers" Daytonas. I hope it's true and they are doing that. btw, you should still be able to go back to your AD if you want something else later. they can't blacklist you for saying no to an offer of a watch.
@sc1 I was glad to see your AD wanted to keep you happy. He could have sold that watch in a minute to anyone. I am sure Rolex could stop the grey market in a month. I found it distasteful that the AD made me put up a deposit. I bought watches from them when they were discounting them. No loyalty.
People need to realise that it ISN'T ROLEX who decides who buys their watches - it's the individual dealerships. There is a huge shortage of supply for Rolex watches but the dealerships reserve what they get for their best customer's and "reward" them.with first choice on what comes in. There is no "list" or Rolex purchase history necessary. If you've bought a tonne of jewellery from the dealership or a bunch of other non Rolex watches, chances are if you want a Rolex model they'll either give you one they have "in the back" or the next one they get in from Rolex.
That matches what my AD (in Germany) told me last week: The situation with the black Submariners - date and no date - is easing. There is little to no waiting time at the moment.

On topic: I was considering getting a submariner like yours, but it does sort of clash with my black dial explorer ii which looks and wears sort of different (though I admit the big plus point of the sub is the smaller size compared to the explorer ii). I've actually been wearing a Breitling diver (Superocean Heritage II) all summer as a beater watch and I loved it - actually got more compliments than a Rolex! But its a big watch, a bit like a SD43 actually, and I struggle to fit it under a shirt and jumper.

The PP purchase request is an important caveat, since the value of that purchase. But, as an apology, since he is no longer a PP AD, here's a Rolex. So, people ought not infer from your experience that Rolex sports models are available to anyone. I just conducted a three-watch trade for a 2023 126660, so I have no complaints about the AD drama that persist to this day.
I went into my Omega AD, and asked about buying a watch. He said they didn't have any watches, and I ended up buying a kind of plastic copy of an Omega. It was brightly coloured, and some of the colour liked me so much, it left the watch, and stayed on my wrist. As I was talking to the AD, my plastic Omega broke, so I informed the assistant, and he said that mine had lasted 20 minutes before breaking, which was a record for his dealership. The assistant said he would put me on the list, for one of the Omega watches, made of metal. It's like a parallel Universe!!!
It’s so strange that these dealers have this control over a watch brand. . Somehow the AD dealers had no Rolex but the grey market is with a healthy stock . It’s obvious that the AD dealers were selling the watches for bigger profits .

Umm yes they do. You should of gotten your white hang tag. That has your serial number and the exact reference number on it. That's considered a part of the full set. As of a week ago our ADs are giving the white hang tags out with purchases at least. And that last few days with the Bucherer purchase they are going to have their own ADs.

Picked up my 124060 on grey market, ADs here are a joke. It is a phenomenal watch, a work of minimalistic art, the one watch that elevates my collection
I bought a couple of watches that I liked at my AD. Next visit I asked for a Sub and walked out with one on my wrist. That is the current game. If you have a history at your AD, you’ll be surprised about how many desired Rolex models he has hidden somewhere.

Hey @sc1 - I have an AirKing 126900 dated Jan 16 2023 with the old style warranty booklet, and a new Explorer 224270 dated July 22 2023 with the new booklet/QR code.
That narrows it down. My Explorer 36 dated Feb 13 2023 had the old style service booklet. They must have switched it between 2/13/2023 and 7/22/2023. Thanks.

Congratulations, great watch. Now you can wear your Patek when you visit new ADs and just explain that your old AD has lost their Patek AD status. Rolex will come out with new models so you will probably want to buy more in the future.
Good point! Two-edged sword. I totally lost my established purchase history with my original Patek AD, but now I felt free to wear my 5205G to the new Patek AD and explained that my previous AD has gone. I hope they will take me on as a new client. It will keep Rolex open, but it will take a very special new release. I should focus on Patek.
I wore my 5205 to a new Patek AD in New Jersey. He kept pressing me on where I got it, so I eventually was obliged to tell him I got it elsewhere in New Jersey, and they are losing their license. I am not sure if disclosing this information is helpful to me or not.

SC, congratulations! For the price, quality, and ruggedness of the Rolex submariner 124060 A symmetrical design! In relation to your 5205 Patek, which is 6 times the price of Rolex! Submariner looks robust and high quality, Sub. Dwarfs the Patek in overall size! AP is higher quality and more Robust than Patek, by a mile! Your acquisition’s are getting to extreme, try to be minimalistic! It’s an addiction, without an end! Be contemplative and humble of what you have, 22 watches are extreme, good luck!
I have already let go of some of my Rolex pieces. More to go this year. I have an appointment with the AP boutique tomorrow. I have extremely little hope of getting anything there. But doesn't hurt to try. More robust than Patek? yes. Higher Quality? I can't agree to that yet.

But you were already their customer with several prior purchases and you already own a Sub so selling to you was a good/easy decision for them. If you hadn't had several prior purchases from them (even non Rolex) I wonder if you would have got it from what I hear. Good for you though, enjoy!
I am a NEW customer, since January 2023. I only purchased ONE watch from him, the Patek Philippe 5205G. Nothing else, no jewelry. My older Sub Date (pre-ceramic) was purchased from a different AD in another state, eight years ago. I tried to explain this in my video. I am very sure that I would NOT have gotten this new Submariner, if I did not have a prior purchase of a Patek Philippe from this store. He might have showed some sympathy because no more Patek was available, But that is what it happened, and I am happy to enjoy my new Rolex Submariner!
I mean, you have a Patek purchase history. So there’s that. My purchase history with my AD is for my wife’s Cartier. So I don’t think I’ll be getting the same deal.
I can't believe you went for the SD43 if you are resorting to removing 2 or even 3 links from your submariner. You need a big wrist to carry it off. I have the SD43 myself, but I use all the links - ergo it is correctly proportional to my 8-inch/20cm wrist. Clearly, the Submariner is the biggest size you should be considering. Also, you speak of stopping your Rolex collecting in favor of Patek. It depends on how many, and which pieces you already have, but for me Rolex should be the backbone of a good collection, augmented by some high-end watches (e.g. Patek or AP - I favor AP). Because Rolex are robust, iconic, and excellent stores of value. Only certain, very hard to get Pateks are decent stores of value, and they are delicate and need to be protected and fussed over. Rolex for daily, A.P. for fancy - that's my motto. FYI, I currently have 4 Rolexes and 2 A.P.s, and some others. BTW, if you want a fancy watch that is not delicate, consider a JLC Reverso. I have the 976 (for a big wrist), I had it serviced recently and it is like new - you can polish it until the cows come home, and you get a free polish with the service. Enjoy you no-date sub, it's a gem!
"Always speak to the owner or the most senior person in the store" is probably the most poignant point of this video. Speaking to the rarity and shortage, 1M doesn't sound like a lot of watches per year to meet the demand. If we assume half are "ladies" models and half of the other half are models without the oysterlock (non-sport) then that's about 250K sport models. I don't know the distribution of steel vs precious metal, but we're already subsetting on just 250K sport models, so the full steel models are going to be a much smaller % of the total. So I fully still believe the demand outstrips the supply many times over. That said, it's still quite paradoxical to think about the lack of supply when we see oyster bracelets everywhere. Familiarity bias perhaps?

Notjhing unusual about this. You are an existing PATEK client. Without argument, Patek is a more exclusive brand vs Rolex. So if you've already established a relationship as a Patek client, it's a no-brainer to sell you a Ref 124060.
Congratulations! But how can a Daytona allocation be an AD incentive if every model is continuously sold out? 🤷🏼♂️Supply determines sales, not the sales efforts of the AD in case of shortage.
it's what they told me, but you are correct. doesn't make sense. That AD already has more clients than they know what to do with. makes more sense that the Daytona is a reward incentive to the end- customer to remain loyal and long-term.

Very easy message here: You got the cash for another Patek (probably you were wearing it) and he wanted to win you over as a regular customer, therefore he offered you the Sub. When someone comes in who „just“ wants a Rolex, he is not gonna offer it. Money attracts money, global rule that applies everywhere!
I actually WAS wearing my Patek 5205G, and he noticed. But by the look of the exquisite store, he seems to be doing just fine without needing my business. Maybe he conceded the Submariner to keep the door open for me to come back…
@@sc1 that’s what I was thinking. He saw you obviously having the means to buy another Patek and gave you the Sub for purchase to win you as a customer as he wouldn’t be able to sell you a Patek as he is as losing his license for the brand. This way you are more likely to return to the store.

5:15 when you buy a 8k watch, I believe you should be picky and demanding on the service you recive. Not being given the whole packaging is unacceptable for a luxury brand like rolex.
He could sell have sold it to Joe Soap who may or may not go off and sell it; or he could sell it to this guy who is clearly a monied and proper collector and who may well turn out to be a very good customer. I mean really, what would you do? I can't see the problem really.

I think Rolex AD market has gone back closer to 2018, but who knows how long it will last. It could become tighter during the next holiday season. I'm just glad I got the Submariner, so I can wear it right now! Patek Philippe is a longer term proposition, like you said. I need to be more careful for exactly what I ask for...

Better to go back and ask to also meet the senior manager if possible. So they know your face. And to make sure they did not forget about you. I think my AD forgot that I wanted an Explorer for a long time (2 years!)

I am stuck between my next rolex. I have a 2006 Pepsi and a 2023 Sub Bluesy. Having a hard time committing to a daily black diver. Submariner or SD43? You're videos make it hard to choose, lol
The SD43 has a much thicker case, but I like its bezel better: graduated marking all around, and an even better clicky bezel action sound than the Sub. But unless you have a 7.5 inch wrist, stick with the Submariner. A cleaner dial, better fit for my small wrist, still has Glide Lock, and cheaper if gotten from the AD!

Yes, but they had not changed the website yet. The Patek section was still open in the store with a few display pieces, but no more new Patek pieces would be coming in.
Good for you my friend. I’m glad you got the ROLEX you wanted. When I get the call from my A.D., I nearly jumped out of my seat. I tried to pay for the Rolex over the phone with my credit card, but they would only let me put a deposit down. I told my boss I had to go take care of something very important. I left work and drove straight to the AD. It was a really nice day.

In this story; a VIP walks into his AD, where he spent 5, if not 6 figures and unsurprisingly gets offered a no-date.
This isn't just the supply/demand imbalance being rectified. It goes to show why many don't like Rolex. One person asks and ends up on a list forever. A prior customer (that they just happened to disappoint) gets one that they hide in the back for the right people. I have heard plenty of stories like this. One person gets laughed at, another has everything to choose from in the safe in the back.

He already bought a patek from this AD. He is already on the list as a spender. This is a sweetheart deal, not a message of hope for commoners.
I don't want to "build a relationship" with my AD by purchasing jewelry from them that I don't want. Just take my money and give me the watch that I want.
Do not go to an AD that is also a jeweler. They will almost always entice you (subtlety or overtly) to buy diamonds.
If you have only one target Rolex in mind, then go to a gray dealer and pay the premium. Once and done.
The Submariner No-date is certainly one of the most beautiful and clean watches from Rolex. You can wear it every day and it also looks fine with a tuxedo. Congrats 🎉

Congratulations on your Rolex purchase. This corresponds with the continued decline in luxury watch prices. The more pain (rapid price decline)we can inflict on the watch flippers and that are not true watch enthusiast the better.
The flippers are inactive now. No profit anymore for most Rolex. I wonder how many people on “the list” are getting the call then declining it.
It might pick up in demand this fall/ winter.

Been on "The List" for under 4 years with my Rolex AD. Finally today I received an email telling me she hopes to be calling me soon with good news and of course I responded immediately. I think after almost 4 years of no word she is telling me get your money ready.

One of the AD’s I use, which is the largest one in my country, is saying something similar about the personal experience, and allocations. He also told me that Rolex expect the AD’s to carry les stock and rely more on specific request, which correlates with the personal experience. However, they don’t expect significant changes in the secondary market. They usually see a lot of business during summer from Asian tourists, but this summer has been very slow, which give them headache in relation to bringing the inventory down as requested by Rolex. They are normally stocking about 50 Rolex watches. He told me that they mainly see interest in watches during spring and fall from locals. He does however say that Christmas isn’t the time for watches. During December, they sell jewellery and not watches, which was a bit of a surprise to me.
Interesting information. The ADs I have seen here still have display models, but very few in stock. The number of exhibition pieces correlates with the size of the store. The one at Short Hills Mall in New Jersey is huge. With dozens and dozens of display models in several different rooms (but only 3 left out for sale).
I normally expect Summer to be slow for demand, but I always assumed Christmas would be very bust with demand.

I picked up the same model after a 4 week wait from my AD. I have a purchase history of two watches from them, however, this was my first Rolex.

This is the game which is sickening. A similar thing happened to me with an AD in TX, which was great for me, but when I first walked in the AD swore up and down they have nothing for sale other than the 31mm ladies OP at the front. Finally deciding to do establish business with this AD, I bought the OP for my wife. Load and behold as we were sizing her watch the guy pulled me aside and asked me if I would be interested in a nondate Sub (which he swore was impossible to get because so many people wanted it). I left with 2 rolexes that evening

My junior SA was seemingly instructed to say that nothing is available for sale. But once my purchase history is recognized, things open up. It’s a game that has to be played… If you want that watch bad enough.

Of course here in Europe Rolex has or is purchasing Bucherer which is a very posh high end watch and jewellery retail group. I went into their store in Paris to try and order/get a Submariner date green bezel. They had already called me and invited me to visit them so I was welcomed by a lovely lady who smiled lots and kept thanking me for choosing Bucherer to buy my Rolex from. She showed me several watches and I tried on the one I would like to buy. She assured me they would be able to obtain one for me in due course. That was in September this year and so far I have heard nothing. Not sure I expected anything this side of Christmas but we live in hope.
If she seemed genuine, then it may still be possible within the next 6-12 months. But I would recommend revisiting them before that, to re-express your interest.
I also have the blue bezel White Gold Sub, the so called BlueBerry. She’s a beautiful model, but heavy and needs to be fitted properly to not have it move around and feel uncomfortable.
The Blueberry was my second purchase at my local AD, a milestone celebration piece.

I was offered the Blue Bezel White Gold Sub recently while picking up my Explorer 36. They brought it out from "the back". I was BLOWN AWAY by how stunning it looked under the AD lights. I had to do a double-take, it looked amazing in person, better than pictures. I just wasn't ready to drop that amount of cash at the time. But good pick-up!
I saw this piece on display for sale in Gothenburg, Sweden recently. It was stunning and so very heavy in a great way. I was so tempted but reluctant to deal with customs so I let it go....

I recently did an exchange deal, my 'Smurf' Submariner for a black ceramic Daytona. That was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life and I regret it every day!

I recently purchased my 124060 from the AD (Late April 2024). Mine came with the full Warranty Booklet.
I walked into the AD at Mohegan Sun in Ct just looking they had some Rolex models on display nothing for sale i liked the 2 tone Sub black and yellow,,I had previously owned 2 black and stainless over the years and sold both, they said they could order me a 2 tone black and yellow but no guarantee it could be delivered , they took my info and said they would call if one came in,, 6 weeks later they called and had one for me, regrettably i paid full retail plus tax. retiring in Sept so it is my retirement gift ,i love it.....

How do you go about accessing the most senior person in the store when you are newly developing the relationship? The way I have seen dialogues play out is, walk up to velvet rope and speak to whomever they assign to greet you. Do you suggest asking that person to go fetch the owner? Maybe? but it seems like it could alienate them off the bat....
You need to be delicate about it, but I think it can be done. After you finish speaking to the Sales Associate, perhaps just ask in a gentle and nice way, "May I also introduce myself to the manager/owner?"
Just make it look like you want to get to know everyone in the store.

I know someone who is a secondary dealer and said they are now buying Submariners at retail which hopefully weeds the flippers off since there’s no profit. I have heard the Rolex stories too. Submariner supply coming in. It might be due to the lower seasonal demand in summer, combined with the recent price increases, which deters the flippers because of lower margins. It Could change during the Christmas season if demand picks up. But I'll enjoy my Sub right now,
I did not hear about the Patek consolidation until now, so it was a shock to me. Bad news for me, but I'm looking for a new Patek AD.

Congrats! The graduation from Rolex to Patek is natural but I think many fall back to Rolex eventually as you cannot beat the quality and overall usability for the price. Still I also plan to graduate to Patek one day soon!

I think my purchase history helped, but MORE than that, talking directly to the Owner of the store made it happen. The first salesperson had no authority to make the sale, and she told me it was not available, even though she must have known it was sitting in the back.
Only after talking to the Owner, he was able to release it to me.
Having connections really helps with getting in-demand pieces. I'm thinking this is mostly how people get the steel Daytona and steel Pepsi.
Purchasing an Explorer and Datejust will certainly help, but talking directly to the senior Manager/Owner will speed things up immensely.
This time next year 90% of Rolex references will be offered at 10-15% OFF MSRP.

Same here! I have a relationship with an AD and got a Rolex. They also sold Patek. My goal was to collect various time pieces Rolex + Patek. However, in February of this year, their Patek account was closed as well. Unfortunate, but I still have a great relationship with them.
That's a good coincidence. I had a one prior Patek purchase, and was trying to get a second Patek. But no prior Rolex purchase. I was sorry to see the loss of future Patek from here, but I was then able to look for another Patek AD.
The only other Patek dealer is also associated with Rolex in the main part of the city. However, I have had not so great experiences with them. Twice, the associates I worked with left and was not informed. Very dry interactions. Was your Patek purchase because you had other purchases with them? I did notice their associates on the Patek side were a bit more warm than those on the Rolex side.@@sc1
With my First Original Patek Purchase, I had no prior purchase history. I explained that this is the closest Patek AD to me and I would like to start a Patek collection. I dealt Directly with the Owner of the store. The other sales associates were not authorized to deal with Patek sales. (Even on the Rolex side, the sales associates are not authorized to reveal what stock they have "in the back")
I was lucky that he had a Patek 5205G on display and he agreed to sell it to me. That is why I always recommend to speak with the o\Owner or the most Senior sales manager.
The junior sales people will not be able to help you, unless they later get permission from management.
With my Second Patek Purchase at my Next AD, I also did not have any purchase history. But I came in wearing a Rolex. I dealt directly with the Assistant Manager and he agreed to sell me something else they had on display... My video on this is coming up.

I was at my Rolex AD yesterday. They had 2 women’s watches that had very small faces and were in the $40,000 range. Congratulations. The AD doesn’t want to lose you as a customer, since you won’t be buying any Pateks there. Why would Rolex have to reward an AD? The AD sells every watch.

@@sc1 What angers me is there are pages full of Daytonas on the Grey market. Somebody is getting these watches. I have a 30 year relationship with my Rolex AD. I went to buy a watch for my wife. Despite our relationship, he wanted a $5,000 deposit and promised me the watch in a month. 6 months pass, no watch. I took my deposit back. I bought her another watch, for a ridiculous amount of money, from another store, that wanted my business. After 14 months the original AD calls and has the watch. I told him no. I actually felt guilty, because I might want something in the future.
@@rickjason215 There must be some way to track down where these Daytonas are coming from. For instance, I heard Rolex is buying these watches from the grey dealer site and checking the serial number to find out which flipper it was sold to. especially the "new with stickers" Daytonas. I hope it's true and they are doing that.
btw, you should still be able to go back to your AD if you want something else later. they can't blacklist you for saying no to an offer of a watch.
@sc1 I was glad to see your AD wanted to keep you happy. He could have sold that watch in a minute to anyone. I am sure Rolex could stop the grey market in a month. I found it distasteful that the AD made me put up a deposit. I bought watches from them when they were discounting them. No loyalty.
People need to realise that it ISN'T ROLEX who decides who buys their watches - it's the individual dealerships. There is a huge shortage of supply for Rolex watches but the dealerships reserve what they get for their best customer's and "reward" them.with first choice on what comes in. There is no "list" or Rolex purchase history necessary. If you've bought a tonne of jewellery from the dealership or a bunch of other non Rolex watches, chances are if you want a Rolex model they'll either give you one they have "in the back" or the next one they get in from Rolex.

On topic: I was considering getting a submariner like yours, but it does sort of clash with my black dial explorer ii which looks and wears sort of different (though I admit the big plus point of the sub is the smaller size compared to the explorer ii). I've actually been wearing a Breitling diver (Superocean Heritage II) all summer as a beater watch and I loved it - actually got more compliments than a Rolex! But its a big watch, a bit like a SD43 actually, and I struggle to fit it under a shirt and jumper.

The PP purchase request is an important caveat, since the value of that purchase. But, as an apology, since he is no longer a PP AD, here's a Rolex. So, people ought not infer from your experience that Rolex sports models are available to anyone. I just conducted a three-watch trade for a 2023 126660, so I have no complaints about the AD drama that persist to this day.

I went into my Omega AD, and asked about buying a watch. He said they didn't have any watches, and I ended up buying a kind of plastic copy of an Omega. It was brightly coloured, and some of the colour liked me so much, it left the watch, and stayed on my wrist. As I was talking to the AD, my plastic Omega broke, so I informed the assistant, and he said that mine had lasted 20 minutes before breaking, which was a record for his dealership. The assistant said he would put me on the list, for one of the Omega watches, made of metal. It's like a parallel Universe!!!

It’s so strange that these dealers have this control over a watch brand. . Somehow the AD dealers had no Rolex but the grey market is with a healthy stock . It’s obvious that the AD dealers were selling the watches for bigger profits .

Umm yes they do. You should of gotten your white hang tag. That has your serial number and the exact reference number on it. That's considered a part of the full set. As of a week ago our ADs are giving the white hang tags out with purchases at least.
And that last few days with the Bucherer purchase they are going to have their own ADs.

Picked up my 124060 on grey market, ADs here are a joke. It is a phenomenal watch, a work of minimalistic art, the one watch that elevates my collection
The blue white gold sub trades below retail on the grey. I was offered one by the AD at the airport. These are not that hard to get
I turned down the white gold sub from my other AD, but picked up this Steel Sub instead.
I bought a couple of watches that I liked at my AD. Next visit I asked for a Sub and walked out with one on my wrist. That is the current game. If you have a history at your AD, you’ll be surprised about how many desired Rolex models he has hidden somewhere.
I like no date subs. But they are easier to get especially if your dealer already knows you’ll spend money.

Hey @sc1 - I have an AirKing 126900 dated Jan 16 2023 with the old style warranty booklet, and a new Explorer 224270 dated July 22 2023 with the new booklet/QR code.
That narrows it down. My Explorer 36 dated Feb 13 2023 had the old style service booklet. They must have switched it between 2/13/2023 and 7/22/2023. Thanks.

Congratulations, great watch. Now you can wear your Patek when you visit new ADs and just explain that your old AD has lost their Patek AD status. Rolex will come out with new models so you will probably want to buy more in the future.
Good point! Two-edged sword. I totally lost my established purchase history with my original Patek AD, but now I felt free to wear my 5205G to the new Patek AD and explained that my previous AD has gone. I hope they will take me on as a new client.
It will keep Rolex open, but it will take a very special new release. I should focus on Patek.
I wore my 5205 to a new Patek AD in New Jersey. He kept pressing me on where I got it, so I eventually was obliged to tell him I got it elsewhere in New Jersey, and they are losing their license. I am not sure if disclosing this information is helpful to me or not.

Submariner looks robust and high quality, Sub. Dwarfs the Patek in overall size! AP is higher quality and more Robust than Patek, by a mile! Your acquisition’s are getting to extreme, try to be minimalistic! It’s an addiction, without an end! Be contemplative and humble of what you have, 22 watches are extreme, good luck!

I am a NEW customer, since January 2023. I only purchased ONE watch from him, the Patek Philippe 5205G. Nothing else, no jewelry. My older Sub Date (pre-ceramic) was purchased from a different AD in another state, eight years ago. I tried to explain this in my video.
I am very sure that I would NOT have gotten this new Submariner, if I did not have a prior purchase of a Patek Philippe from this store. He might have showed some sympathy because no more Patek was available, But that is what it happened, and I am happy to enjoy my new Rolex Submariner!

I can't believe you went for the SD43 if you are resorting to removing 2 or even 3 links from your submariner. You need a big wrist to carry it off.
I have the SD43 myself, but I use all the links - ergo it is correctly proportional to my 8-inch/20cm wrist.
Clearly, the Submariner is the biggest size you should be considering.
Also, you speak of stopping your Rolex collecting in favor of Patek. It depends on how many, and which pieces you already have, but for me Rolex should be the backbone of a good collection, augmented by some high-end watches (e.g. Patek or AP - I favor AP). Because Rolex are robust, iconic, and excellent stores of value. Only certain, very hard to get Pateks are decent stores of value, and they are delicate and need to be protected and fussed over. Rolex for daily, A.P. for fancy - that's my motto. FYI, I currently have 4 Rolexes and 2 A.P.s, and some others. BTW, if you want a fancy watch that is not delicate, consider a JLC Reverso. I have the 976 (for a big wrist), I had it serviced recently and it is like new - you can polish it until the cows come home, and you get a free polish with the service. Enjoy you no-date sub, it's a gem!

Speaking to the rarity and shortage, 1M doesn't sound like a lot of watches per year to meet the demand. If we assume half are "ladies" models and half of the other half are models without the oysterlock (non-sport) then that's about 250K sport models. I don't know the distribution of steel vs precious metal, but we're already subsetting on just 250K sport models, so the full steel models are going to be a much smaller % of the total. So I fully still believe the demand outstrips the supply many times over.
That said, it's still quite paradoxical to think about the lack of supply when we see oyster bracelets everywhere. Familiarity bias perhaps?

Yeah, some one else commented on this. I can't explain it, but that's what he said. I suppose if they can sell out even faster than every other AD in the state, then they will get more allocation from the Rolex.

Notjhing unusual about this. You are an existing PATEK client. Without argument, Patek is a more exclusive brand vs Rolex. So if you've already established a relationship as a Patek client, it's a no-brainer to sell you a Ref 124060.
Congratulations! But how can a Daytona allocation be an AD incentive if every model is continuously sold out? 🤷🏼♂️Supply determines sales, not the sales efforts of the AD in case of shortage.
it's what they told me, but you are correct. doesn't make sense. That AD already has more clients than they know what to do with. makes more sense that the Daytona is a reward incentive to the end- customer to remain loyal and long-term.

@@sc1 that’s what I was thinking. He saw you obviously having the means to buy another Patek and gave you the Sub for purchase to win you as a customer as he wouldn’t be able to sell you a Patek as he is as losing his license for the brand. This way you are more likely to return to the store.

5:15 when you buy a 8k watch, I believe you should be picky and demanding on the service you recive. Not being given the whole packaging is unacceptable for a luxury brand like rolex.
He could sell have sold it to Joe Soap who may or may not go off and sell it; or he could sell it to this guy who is clearly a monied and proper collector and who may well turn out to be a very good customer. I mean really, what would you do? I can't see the problem really.

I think Rolex AD market has gone back closer to 2018, but who knows how long it will last. It could become tighter during the next holiday season. I'm just glad I got the Submariner, so I can wear it right now!

Better to go back and ask to also meet the senior manager if possible. So they know your face. And to make sure they did not forget about you. I think my AD forgot that I wanted an Explorer for a long time (2 years!)

I am stuck between my next rolex. I have a 2006 Pepsi and a 2023 Sub Bluesy. Having a hard time committing to a daily black diver. Submariner or SD43? You're videos make it hard to choose, lol
The SD43 has a much thicker case, but I like its bezel better: graduated marking all around, and an even better clicky bezel action sound than the Sub. But unless you have a 7.5 inch wrist, stick with the Submariner. A cleaner dial, better fit for my small wrist, still has Glide Lock, and cheaper if gotten from the AD!

Yes, but they had not changed the website yet. The Patek section was still open in the store with a few display pieces, but no more new Patek pieces would be coming in.
