  • Broadway Flyer, who spent much of his career in Europe racing on soft courses, had no problems handling the spongy going at Saratoga Race Course today, rallying in the stretch to overtake Kiri's Clown and go on to a six-length victory in the $250,000 Sword Dancer Invitational.
Trained by Bill Mott for Sultan al Kabeer and Frederick Bienstock, the 5-year-old Broadway Flyer settled in fifth, well off the pace set by Kiri's Clown, who opened up eight lengths on the field as he rolled through fractions of :493/5 , 1:133/5 and 1:39. On the far turn, under urging from Mike Smith, Broadway Flyer began moving up steadily on the leader, catching him in midstretch and pulling away to hit the wire in 2:32 for the one and a half miles.
