Fun fact…..Rose’s Cantina is a REAL place in El Paso that’s been there forever. Rumor is Marty Robbins was on the road back in the 50s and stopped in to Rose’s Cantina for a bite to eat and got inspiration for the song by what he saw. Truly one of country’s greatest story teller artists there ever was and probably ever will be. He was also a nascar driver and served in the Navy during WW II. What an awesome man this guy was that left us wayyyy too soon when he died of a heart attack on December 8 1982 at the young age of 57. I guess God needed a story teller up in his heavenly band of angels.

He had a “concert” in Harlingen Texas back in the 50s except back then a concert wasn’t a big thing so he got off of a public bus and just walked up to all his fans with a Guitar and played in the middle of the square. No promotion except posters, no venue, just him and his guitar. An amazing guy

Marty was a great, true artist whose palette and brush were the words to the songs (most of which he wrote), and the emotions that he put into them. When you listen to a Marty Robbins western song -- or any genre, really -- a movie takes place in your mind. I've been watching these movies since I was 7 years old. Over 55 years later, they have never gotten old. His grandfather, a Texas Ranger, would be proud of him since he used to tell Marty of his adventures. 🙂

Imagine if music videos existed in the 60s. I wonder how many of the Western movie or tv directors would have wanted to be on that project. Or which Western movie or tv stars would have wanted to be in the video.

I wonder if they had any idea how far their stories would spread, here I am, born long after both Marty and his father passed and I'm listening to the stories he wrote so many years ago, I will be sure to have my children listen to Robin's if I ever have any. Music like this is a treasure from another era.

That being said, do you think that I could find the song on ANY Jukebox while I was there? I could not. Probably went to the wrong places. 😂

I’m in my seventies, grew up on Jim Reeves, Ray Price, Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Ray Charles and the other greats of the era. I’ve frequently sung them in my head over the years but now, in my own twilight years, I am enjoying that UA-cam has made it easy for us all to listen to whatever we wish, whenever we wish. It’s 9/1/24 and I’m listening to every song I can think of and pleased to see that additional favorites are popping up in the feed. God bless everyone here and try harder to forgive and love each other.

As a young kid, I grew up listening to Marty Robbins' Gunfighter Ballads album, a favorite of my dad's. By chance, he was stationed for a while at El Paso's Biggs Air Force Base. Handguns? Military weapons proficiency ratings range from Marksman, then Sharpshooter, to Expert (the highest). He was one of very few in the Air Force with an Expert rating for a 45-caliber handgun.
Years later, he "won" a Purple Heart in Vietnam. Before he passed on, he gave me his USAF combat flight uniform and this album. Thanks for posting it here. Every word of these songs I still know by heart.

This trilogy of songs is unique; There is not another set of songs in country and western music by one singer that surround and deepen a story the way these do. The first song,
"El Paso," a masterpiece of storytelling, became iconic as soon as it was released. The second song, "Feleena," is one of the most hauntingly eloquent ballads in country music. Listen to it more than once. With insight and empathy, with lovely, heart-wrenching lyrics, Marty Robbins gets inside the heart and mind of this beautiful, restless, searching young woman. You will never forget this song. The third song, "El Paso City," is a nice conclusion to this tale, adding a touch of mystery and faith. Taken together, these songs are absolutely wonderful! Mary Robbins was never better!

I first heard Marty Robbins in about 1964/65when I was about 13/14, Devil Woman was first songs of his I heard.
I had just been introduced to Country Music in the early 60's, I've been hooked.ever since.
I love songs of the 50's, 60' however, Country is the best.
I always pay attention to the lyrics, and try to picture in my mind the meaning, and try to envision the scenes.
Marty Robbins is one of the best "Story Teller's" I've listened to. ( When Music Videos first came out I was usually surprised and shock that most of my songs, in my minds version was nothing close to the video. 😳LOL 😂
The El Paso songs are among my favorites. I have to make sure I play them in order, and play them 6 or 7 times in a row.
I wonder if he had any idea how much his songs were loved, and his popularity is so wide. He truly made his mark in the Music World, and his songs are timeless, and will live on forever

They also have an annual music festival in Austin TX. Stevie Ray Vaughan may be the best blues/hard-rock guitarist Texas has ever produced; he was born in Dallas in 1954 but died in a helicopter crash in August 1990. This is how I picture the movie: A young Pilot is about to board his plane. He sees a tourism poster for El Paso. He stares at it in deep thought, and starts to him the song EL Paso. The movie then jumps to the back story of Felina, stopping before the death of Felina and her cowboy. The film jumps back to modern time as the young pilot is flying and looking down at EL Paso. The film then shows the remainder of the story, how the cowboy dies, and how grief stricken, she joins him in death. The film then jumps back to modern times, the pilot is sitting in the El Paso airport cafe, he is still humming EL Paso, like he did at the sight of the EL Paso poster, he then starts to say the lyrics, while looking out the window in deep thought. He sings softly, “night time would find me in Roses Cantina”.. he then hears a woman say “music would play and Felina would whirl.” The young pilot turns his head in suprise, taking his eyes off the window. Their smiling kindly at him is a young waitress, her name tags says, “Felina”.
