PMSL you know your video is getting a tiny bit of traction when folks start spamming with eBay links and fake likes to try and boost the comment up... I delete any spam I happen to see so don't waste your time lol
I've been buying 18650's now for about 5 years for my scuba touches. I've seen a few fakes in my time, cheap batteries are cheap for a reason. You put the vid together nicely and raise some good safety issues so I'm looking forward to you blowing up a proper Li-ion. Keep up the go work.
thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, I really appreciate it! This video has well over 1k views now which I never expected at all - and its thanks to yourself and everyone else who gave it a wee look! Yeah the problem is really massive - most people won't ever realise, because the battery works (sort of) and they haven't used a proper one to compare... but when you have to rely on them, these cheap ones will let you down - and in arenas such as yours, that alone could be dangerous!
Part of the issue just as I see it is people are too guided by their wallets - not experienced vapers obviously - but people new to it. They see terrible batteries like these for 3.99, and a listing beside it for some decent ones for £14 say, and to them its a no brainer. They don't even stop to question it. £3.99, AND being delivered from half way round the globe, included in that price. Logic just tells you they are going to be a disaster... maybe we as consumers (because goodness knows I've been guilty in the past too) need to just stop and think before being so mercenary on price? I don't know if regulation/standards would change things - the crap quality ones would still find a way in. If you look for camera batteries (for example) on ebay, it is the exact same. Energiser NB 4Ls for 3.99 delivered... clearly fake... but at least those don't tend to get a high current draw...
I have learned my lesson the hard way!. Don't buy any vape products such as batteries 18560 (spoke about in this video) or vape coils. I have purchased both and received fake Products both fake batteries and vape coils. I even had a seller contact me when I left negative feedback asking what he could do to get me to change my negative rating!! REALLY! Thanks for the video - great job and being Scottish I loved the accent too!
Thanks for taking the time to drop by and comment, really appreciated! The biggest annoyance I have is there are still plenty of these crap batteries populating the market - not so bad on Amazon now as it was when I made this vid, but eBay still has a lot last time I checked. I suppose it's consumerist societies fault. "We" want everything as cheap as possible, so somewhere, someone will be trying to exploit that!
Thankyou very much for those kind comments buddy! I like the look of your channel, I have subbed and going to start working through your videos - might take me a while though, you have loads :D
Thanks mate. It's good to get this info out there! I bought 6 on ebay, thought i was getting a bargain at $2 each for 6000mah. Thankfully no harm done.
My e-cig has an internal Li-ion battery but I did rip an old dumpster battery apart a few years back to power a large laser pen that I bought online. I've never charged the battery up as I don't have a charger so I might pass it over the fence for you to have a play with.
Nice one! I was asking Vicki earlier if yous have any old laptop batteries kicking around? I'm wanting to harvest a few of these cells, even apparently dead laptop batteries sometimes have usable cells :D I need to make pals with someone that works at the tip I think hahaha
Nice work! Well done for highlighting this issue. Alot of these batteries are used in star wars lightsabre replicas and slot if sabre Smith's here in the UK are ordering them from eBay and Amazon because there affordable to buy in bulk for private seller updgrades but as you have shown there not always genuine and can potential be dangerous. Alot us will use these at conventions where you can be in large crowds of people and if you buy a sabre for your kids if it's a fake and dangerous battery then I dread to think of the dreadful possibilities.
I finally found an outdoor battery operated security camera that actually works and would like to know if the Samsung 35E 3500mAh batteries that I chose for it are good batteries. I do not know if they are protected or not and also would like your opinion on using my solar panel 3.3W, 5.5V to continuous charge the batteries. Also, are the LG MJ1 3500mAh comparable or better/worse than the Samsung. Thank You
I'll be honest I'm not familiar with that cell at all. Usually cameras run on 12v - is this model different? If it is 12v you'll need 3 in series, but with balance connections to each cell - some sort of battery management system - between your solar cell and the battery cell array. Sorry I can't be more specific - I'm no expert - oh, Google says those cells are not protected. They might not need to be for that application 🙂
@@PurpleHelmet Thanks. It is a basic WiFi camera that requires 2 18650 and it will also charge them when connected to micro usb power. This versatility is why I chose it. Yeah, I found out right after posting those are unprotected. I am only finding protected batteries that are NOT made by the big 4 but are created with their cells by other companies. Are those safe? I thought the protection was by a computer chip, not a strip going down the side. Thanks for helping!
My first ever dislike!!! Surprised it took so long tbh, I don't even like my videos myself :D So, whoever disliked this from Spain, on the 31st Jan, after watching only 2min 46sec... fuck you in the ass hahahahaha Analytics are great
Purple helmet You do realize there's something really wrong with you? But it's a good warning, although by now people should know better because it's actually old news. Btw, You forgot to mention the fact that big companies who make 18650's have many times big batches of 18650's that don't meet the expectations. They are sold to chinese companies. They rewrap these batteries and sell them under their own "brand". Keep up the good work please.
Hey buddy - cheers for taking the time to comment, can't believe this terrible video is still getting views and comments!! I'm not sure - it may be this type (18650) as they do get used in ebikes etc - but I'd hope Segway would use quality genuine cells! But you never know, so are right to wonder. I've heard of terrible quality cells like these making it into many things, because the manufacturers just buy them in and believe them to be genuine...
OMG! Just seen these batteries on BBC Fake Britain. I have the same head torch and and two bike torches all with BRC 18650, ALL are fake and potentially lethal. Thanks for the video!
I've had black Ultrafire batteries for years, maybe five years... I always thought they were fake but guess what! They are real! Both still working great! ! yes Exclamation maRKS!
Hey buddy, I prob won't be testing any more batteries any time soon. If it helps I did test EBL 3000mAh 18650 (didn't make a video) - and they came out at around 2200mAh on a drain to 2.5V. You'd never drag them that low in normal usage, so you won't even get the 2200 from them. So those one's did have exaggerated figures for sure - I can't speak for other EBL cells tho
Thank you so much, really helpful. I brought some 'UltraFire' on ebay & they loose their charge so quickly so started to look for ways to check if they were fake. First & easiest way for me (in the absence of scales) was checking the spelling & heyho same spelling mistake you pointed out (sheef-life!), damn, I've clearly been had!
Thanks for taking the time to comment :) Don't feel bad, the scale of this problem is huge, I wonder how many house fires have been caused by these... interesting factoid, mass shipment of lithium ion cells is now restricted on aircraft because they have been suspected to have caused incidents... that MH370 that went missing had a load in its cargo hold. And, by logic, poor quality ones like these are more likely to go wrong than good quality ones... speculation, but interesting nonetheless!!
And, in my other video - the GTF9900 battery test - they had been declared as NIMH batteries when they left China, clearly to circumvent the LiIon restrictions... makes you think
Awesome stuff! Are you going to be able to test one of these GTF 12000mAh batteries that are now being sold? They have now broken the 10,000mah limit yet still are probably garbage
+spotify95 - hey buddy - I might do for a laugh... they will be garbage. Panasonic haven't stabilised a 4000mAh cell even yet, so you just know they are going to be BS!
spotify95 - don't know if you are still around, or will even get a notification of this comment because UA-cam = broken... but I did test a couple of 12,000mAh in the end up, check my most recent uploaded video... or if you CBA doing that, they were every bit as terrible as I thought lol
+IGSPOWERD - that's shocking - actual fake copy cells! At least the crap cells I've been playing with, haven't been pretending to be a big brand cell! Did you capacity test them?
Thank you i just got that dang Ultrafire 18650 4200 mAH 3.7V Li-ion for my flashlight i bought and i was gonna check up on it before i actually bought more of those batteries
Thing is they DO work. And on a low draw device like a flashlight, will work for a while. Not a fraction of the time a genuine cell like a Samsung 30q will - but they do work. The main worry for me is safety during charging etc. Then there is just the principal of the blatant lies!
Hey buddy it's hard to say because generally, every cheap one lies about its specifications. The only cheaper end on I've found that met its specifications so far is the PKCell, but that was a while back, I have no idea what the current ones are like. Someone suggested EBL, I got some (haven't made video yet) and they claimed 3000mAh. Struggled to get 2200. But that's not bad if you ignore the lies. However, they came with absolutely no specs for current, and had a lot of the same warning signs as ultrafire etc. Probably ok for low current devices, but just untrustworthy
There are a lot of cheapish cells from the good brands. Like the LG HE4 (2500mAh) is about 2.50$. LG MJ1 (3500mAh) is around 3.50$. Sanyo UR18650AAN (2250mAh) around 2.50$. Samsung 25R (2500mAh) around 3.50$.
Yeah man, I've seen that in other videos and websites - never came across it myself (yet!) - the ones I've got have just been extremely poor quality with nowhere near the amount of chemical material to make a half decent cell in the first instance. Avoid! I'm still seeing folks buying these for vaping!
+Mark Ayt thanks for that - really appreciated! I know I'm extremely nooby but gimme a little time, got some good ideas rattling about in this dusty old brain haha
Great video, I have 2 ultrafire 4000mah batteries that came with a torch from Amazon, they both have those little dimples on the + end, hadn't noticed them before, and have sometimes left them charging over night. Won't be doing that again. Big thanks.
Sometimes, ironically, this could mean you have better cells than the typical ones I tested here and in the GTF video! It means they have been recycled from a laptop or similar, so although used, may be decent cells. The problem is, you can never know... and also there are cheap laptop packs being punted on eBay, that are filled with new but terrible cells... so if it's THOSE that have been recycled, it's double bad. The problem is you just don't know - so for safety sake, don't leave charging unattended!
@@PurpleHelmet I think I have the bad ones, they work fine in the torch, but when I tried them in a vape mod, they didn't last as long as the Samsung 25R 18650 (2500mah) batteries I have, and the ultrafires don't charge at a steady rate, they can jump from 85% to 100% in a minute. I've ordered some replacements, not worth the risk! Thanks for the info though, much appreciated.
@@kam0999 - yeah just not worth the risk in something like a vape mods that's high draw. If it was me, I'd prob keep them for low draw flashlights as a back up, but that's just because I find it hard to throw stuff away 😂😂😂 Thank YOU for taking the time to chat on this old (and pretty terrible lol) video, really appreciate the interaction 💜
@@PurpleHelmet the video might be old but it far from terrible, and it's still relavent, I searched online and watched quite a few videos about ultrafires before this, but not many went into detail about them or how to spot the fakes. I agree with you about keeping them as backups for the torch 👍🏾
Well thanks again. I guess it's just because I know if I made the video now, it would be so much better with more info, it's kinda why I done the group test on the supposed 12,000 mAh cells, and included a cheeky ultrafire 😂 But I suppose the important thing is regardless you and others are still finding the video useful, I suppose that's all that matters!
I started out buying the Ultrafire for my high power flashlights but wasn't happy with the runtimes, so I started buying better brands and doing more research. After a while I bought a battery analyzer, which tests and also charges most battery types and sizes. The Ultrafires all tested very bad. One was labeled as 8000mAh and tested at 340mAh. I threw all the Ultrafire batteries out. The good brands such as Nirecore, EagleTac, Olight, A&W, Samsung, and some unprotected cells I salvaged from battery packs all tested at or even slightly above their rated capacities. Ultrafire may be inexpensive, but why pay anything for garbage? I wouldn't use cheap chargers either. Nitecore Intellicharger is inexpensive but works great for Li-ion and NiMH.
Hey fella - thanks for dropping by and commenting plus sharing info, sincerely appreciated! I see people defending ultra fire all the time - "so what, they are cheap" - but I mean there are cheap things in this world that are acceptable because you still get usable quality... and then there are cheap things that are just garbage, false economy and give more grief than function... Ultrafire, GTF and so on are the latter for me!
Lets also not forget dangerous. I don't want my house burning down because i wanted to save a few bucks on batteries! People that have experienced hazardous problems with these cells should sue the companies selling them. Watch the "fakes" stop real fast when they start loosing millions in lawsuits.
generally no as they are very bulky - but in theory you could use them yeah. Allthough these are called Lithium Ion, they are the exact same tech as Lithium Polymer which ARE used in airsoft and although I can't prove, I do think there are poor quality ones of those too. I have a video coming up where I will short one of those out, even a small one goes off impressively... they demand more respect than any other battery type IMO
Its China. These fakes I suppose arent strictly fakes as extremely low quality counterfiets. A genuine 18650 battery has a lot of material in there, wound extremely tightly to get the capacity quoted, and they max out at say 3300 to 3700mah currently. These chinese rip offs have a fraction of the material, looks like far lower quality of material, and they are loosely wound by hand. So yeah, they will cost cents to make; a genuine quality 18650 costs maybe 20-30 dollars per battery (estimated, I'm in the UK so work in GBP) and will give superb performance ad reliability. These rip offs will give poor performance, poor reliability and could be potentially very dangerous. They quote capacities of as high as 9800 mah, when in reality, you'll be lucky if they are 500. So even though they sell them cheaply - a few bucks for 4 shipped in some cases - its almost all profit - its free money to them, and they sell HUGE numbers of them. All online markets are FLOODED with them. They are enterprising little buggers, and know that the best way to make lots of money isn't necessarily to sell at high markup/price - because the volume of sale goes down. They go for low markup, low cost, but get insane sales volumes. Not everything that comes from those channels is crap - you just need to pick and choose, and use common sense. I wouldn't knowingly touch batteries, chargers etc - just too risky. I do however use a lot of parts, sights and so on from China, because for airsoft, it does the job very well. In fact I have a review of an Molle type assault vest/plate carrier I got from China coming up soon - delivered, including a 3x M4 mag pouch, a medkit pouch and an ID panel (with flashlight pocket) for just £22 GBP - and it is absolutely superb
Just come across the fact that these 18650's are massively faked now I have started using them in electronics other than just powering Cree LED torches. Can you give me some suggestions of where to purchase GENUINE ones and maybe a quality charger for them. Thanks
+BigPinkJohn - hey buddy cheers for dropping by, really appreciated. Unfortunately I don't know many places, if you are in the UK I've had great product from Torchy (find him on eBay) but there will be others too. I done another video on PKCell, those tested out well and lived up to their claims, those are on eBay - durnergy is one of their official accounts, they have another but the name escapes me right now. I've been told EBL are supposed to be good too, but although I bought some I haven't had time to do anything with them yet. They are still in their box! Those would be medium to low drain options, perfect for most projects (and, obviously you could connect a few in parallel to improve your safe current availability) - for higher drain applications you'd be wanting to stick to genuine Sony, Samsung, LG etc rated for your usage. There are fakes of those in circulation though... bit of a minefield I'm afraid.
Cheer mate. Yes I am in the uk. Just started using these to power some amateur radio devices and already had them from bike lights so have fallen foul of the fakes. Just ordered some more, 8800mAh yesterday off eBay, lol lol lol but only paid £6. Have now learnt lol. Any genuine makes to look out for. I have 2 ultrafire that seem to be ok, weigh 40g, take a good time to charge and hold for about 4-5hrs use. Others are all crap
+Mark r - Hey fella - unfortunately its hard to say - they could be, but they could just as easily be fake. You can buy counterfeit wraps for pretty much any popular battery from China. Only advice is to read around and see what feedback you can get on individual retailers, especially on eBay. You see, on eBay, someone buys a batter for a torch. The torch lights. They assume battery is good - but it isn't that simple, because the fakes will work, for a little while. Best place to look for recommendations is on vaping forums, diving forums etc. There are people on those forums that teat these batteries fully. Sorry I can't give you a more definite answer, but it is a very messy situation - and eBay don't care about fixing it - fake or real, they make a fortune from sales in fees
+Grace Caymo - thanks for dropping by - I'm not sure what could be causing that but it doesn't sound good! First thing I'd do is get rid of the UltraFire though because regardless what is causing your issue, they are terrible and potentially very dangerous 😀
+Grace Caymo - it might say 7800 but it won't be. That's not possible with current tech anyway, but ultrafire are generally terrible - the best ones I have seen tested haven't even got to 2000 and the ones I've tested myself have been even worse. I just tested one in my latest video, it said it was 3000mAh - but was only 350mAh. They are terrible
Cheers Martin, good to hear from you mate! Yeah its ridiculous... this one IS a li Ion, just a ridiculously low quality and low capacity one - apparently some folk have been getting a li Ion can with a smaller battery inside connected up PMSL
Fantastic tidy workshop wow!. I have a few bad 18650's here and a recent pair I purchased from eBay were the yellow GTF 9800mAh although mine were marked as GiF. Yes I knew they were fake and they were only 99p and free post so god knows how much they make them for. I bought them just to test and make a prototype phone charger. I managed to make one using a plastic Battery holder for 4 x 18650's. I only used 2 fake yellow GTF (GiF) batteries and a charging circuit and of course a boost converter too and all was going well but these 2 batteries charged the phone to 25% and died a death and that took 2 hours. I then used 2 x Efest Japanese 18650's which were £6 each and OMG!!! What a difference in weight and charging of phone times. Charged my phone up just over 2 times and that is great for only 2 batteries (parallel connected). They were only 2500mAh too but that was actually 2550 when tested. So go for the Panasonic, Samsung, Eset or any of the Japanese batteries as these are the best and you do have to pay for a good battery but it will last you many many years and will be safe. I have actually purchased laptop batteries just to take out the 18650's but. The last laptop battery I purchased was a 6 cell (yes there were 6 x 18650's in there) all of which were tested at 2000mAh. This was a Chinese produced laptop battery for £7 on eBay but the batteries inside were great. Also you will have to get a reputable charger too and please do not charge these with the cheap nasty cheap Chinese Chargers. I am not saying all Chinese chargers are cheap because I have a genuine Imax B6 and this was made in China but are one of the best chargers on the market today.
You make a great point Sir! Even folks that know to pay a little more for good batteries, still seem to scrimp on charger... a battery, no matter how good, is nothing without a proper charger! I have some GTF 9900mah coming to have a look at. I already know the score, but am trying to remain unbiased... its difficult. That capacity claim is beyond unrealistic, it is absurd. But, a lot of people will be seeing these on eBay, seeing the 9900mah quote, and, assuming bigger number = better, opting for these over all the other fakes quoting stupid numbers. They are coming from China, x4, delivered AND with a charger for £9.99. Ridiculous. I'm looking forward to cracking the cover off the charger and seeing what delights await inside; one thing for sure, it will not be used.
My 9800 GTF's were only 99p each with free postage from China. I knew too like you they were not good but I just wanted to try them for my own curiosity. I use them now purely for an home made power bank but not good even for that. The sellers know they are in the wrong because I complained to the seller and almost immediately they told me to keep the batteries and they would send a refund. I wasn't bothered about a refund, I told them to give it to charity.
I wonder which ebay seller will be brave enough to break into that 10,000mah rating on their crap products pmsl, they all seem a little scared, as if they are getting away with edging toward it - but if they break it, folk will suddenly be like "nah that sounds fishy" lol!!
Actually you can buy the heat shrinking plastic covers now for these batteries and you can get all sorts of designs. Maybe I can buy a job lot of laptop batteries and take out the batteries, clean them up and charge them all and get them all looking like new with the new covers, then sell them as 20,000mAh roflmao. Let's go even one better than the Chinese.
Awessome Review, Really I liked what you have said and its very informative, I have one question. I have just ordered a vaping machine name Tesla Nano 120W kit, which use 18650 Battery 30A, I am not sure from where I can buy as it is not available in india and on other websites their are many options and I am not able to decide, it would be great if my battery actually have protection, please answer to my please.
Hi - thankyou for commenting buddy! There are batteries available that could cope with that spec - Samsung 25R possibly one good choice, but the LG HB6 might be better as it can supply 30A plus all day long - but it seems you are always going to be limited by what you can get in India unfortunately!
Purple Helmet thanks again, as per your suggestion I am glad that I have already made up mind for buying between these two batteries but after your suggestion I am more than confident, thanks for taking this up on priority, great job, people like you really making a difference in whole community
just for laughs I purchase 4 ultrafilre 18650 batteries . I weighed 1 and it was 38 grams . not sure what that means if ts fake or not . I will be testing capacity shortly
Thanks for taking the time to comment buddy, can't believe this terrible video is still getting views hahaha You do get some with "decent" capacity - I've seen some tested at 2000mAh ish online. But it's still nowhere near what they claim on the wrapper, and still mis-selling. Also, there is never any info about what current they can handle, which is more concerning! I've never seen one of these "good" ones IRL though, every one I've tested has been ~600mAh capacity or much less! Will be interesting to see how yours are - could you please message back once you have tested please? Would really appreciate it!
Jonathan Herr - I'm really sorry buddy this comment completely slipped past me! try to do my best to reply to all if I can! I think that is the first time I've heard anyone describe my kind of accent as sounding cool lol - but its the only one I have so I'm stuck with it :-)
Thanks for commenting buddy - it isn't your friends fault, they are completely mis sold - its a scam!! Get them to buy some genuine Sony, Samsun, Panasonic, LG etc that are current rated for the job and the difference will be night and day :). Glad to be of help!!
l did the weight comparison so yes fake batteries. l plug in the vaporizer unit to a usb port on my desktop to charge it had it 3 days vapes herb really good it's a new vivant alternate.
They don't explode they vent! When in a closed compartment and the gasses can't escape that's when explosions happen. When a short circuit happens (battery in your pocket with loose change or keys) it will vent then the gasses can ignite violently due to sparks caused by these metal objects in your pocket or bag.
Absolutely right - for a properly made 18650, with burst disc etc. That kinda goes off the table with the worst ones, made with zero QC or spec. I've personally seen some pop - like they haven't been built with the ability to vent. Always the cheap, horrid, no-name ones. Just such a minefield!
@@taunteratwill1787 - nah, not to harsh - I can see your point. But many folks just don't know any better unfortunately... hence why myself and others try to do our little bit to raise at least some awareness. And if you think you are harsh, you could actually say they bring it all upon themselves anyway - by always looking for the very cheapest they can find, rather than paying for quality! 😀
@@PurpleHelmet Have to agree with you! Check out this site please and tell me what you think of the price of their batteries. This company is trustworthy i'll buy anything from them. Greetz. www.nkon.nl/
@@PurpleHelmet Also modern genuine cells won't even vent anymore when short circuited. The technology really has improved a lot, atleast that goes to the trusted manufacturers. If you look up any datasheet of cells released in lets say the last 5 years, every one of them states that it guarantees no venting or explosion when short circuited for over a hour.
+David Oliveira - totally right buddy! But low quality counterfeits claiming to be something they are not obviously carry far higher risk if someone uses them to the limits they claim on the listing or packaging, and they just outright lied 😀
I Bought an LED Flashlight that came with an 18650 Ultrafire Cell claims to have a capacity of 4200mAh and the only "that I currently have access to" find out if the thing is charged is to grab a multimeter and test it's voltage the charger has no indicators on it what so ever either. You would have no clue if it's even charging The only thing written on the battery aside from the biggest logo on earth is " Warning, The voltage of full charge and cut-off Charge is 4.2v and 2.75v. Don't heat, incinerate or reverse polarity"
Hey buddy, thanks for taking the time to comment! You are probably of the same mindset, but I'd happily bet a lot of cash that it is nowhere near 4200mAh. Also, depending what country you are in, it could be outright illegal due to not having the correct markings. Here in the UK I believe Trading Standards are at last preparing to crack down on this issue. I'd also wager that your charger has some issues in it that could make it potentially dangerous - I opened a far eastern one in another video, and it was a housefire waiting to happen!
Purple Helmet indeed it's why i decided to buy keep power batteries a charger with a charge display. Yeah has less charge but at least I dont have a pipe bomb in hand.
I found 6PCS 18650 3.7V 3800mAh Batteries high-Capacity Rechargeable Battery and Battery Charger. for 10 bucks around 1.60 a piece. thay say they weigh 34 grams
Well straight away, at that wieght I'd be impressed if they were even 2000 mAh but I suspect being so cheap - and lying about capacity (no way they are 3800, especially being so light - capacity is tied to the mass of chemical materials inside) I'd be concerned they are maybe more like some of the terrible ones I've reviewed.... way sub 1000mAh. They'll still power some low drain devices for a while, but they have still blatantly lied about their specs, that's what annoys me. Then there is the risk factor that comes with poor cells, fire, explosion etc
The physical capacity of 18650 batteries is 3500 mAh. Any claims above that mAh are false. The 18650 cell is not capable of producing more then that. The typical average priced name brand 18650 is 2000- 2500 mAh.Premium high capacity name brands go up to 3500 mAh
+Burntwolf Airsoft - I just cringe at it now lol - but, at the time with what I had and zero comfort on front of a camera... I know I done my best at that point. Plus ultimately its been helpful for folks which is kinda the point I suppose!
Ah weve all got them videos man, still shows the progression, people dont realize how strange it is to be infront of the camra.somthing that im not planning on doing me self so fair play to ya.and yeah its helpfull tbh as soon as i watched this i gave me mate a ring to get ride of his shitty vape batterys that where a "bargin"
I needed some of these batteries for my new tac light, saw all be people talking about issues, so I said fuck it and took two CR123A batteries and put them in where you’re supposed to use one of these.
Good Job @Purple_Helmet, why are all big internet sales companies still offering those fake batteries? Checked some: eBay.com, checked Amazon.com, checked Walmart.com: all sell incredible batteries. But then checked alibaba.com (of all sites) and they seem to have checked their suppliers. Nothing more than 4000mAh there it seems?! Let's start batterycapacityclaim.com!
Hey thanks buddy! I'm not sure. Its mostly coming from China, and they don't care, they are untouchable pretty much legally. They sell them on ebay/amazon etc, and even if they got shut down would just keep popping up again. Ebay don't care, they are making a fortune in commision from the huge sales of these. Legit companies selling them is rarer and more likely down to the fact they have no clue what they are selling, just out to make money - and people buying them aren't clued up enough to know they are buying crap; they have nothing really to compare against. I have seen a move recently for less exagerated claims on some Eastern batteries, maybe they are getting the message that people are growing wise to them?
Yeah Tesla too, 1000s of them in each vehicle. Although I heard they are switching to 20700cells instead of 18650, not sure how accurate that is! Thanks for commenting buddy :)
Thanks, can't believe people are still watching it - but mind you, these fake and terrible quality cells sold on pure lies are still out there unfortunately! Cheers for taking the time to comment buddy!
Hey buddy - thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it. I can't say for certain he is an out and out scammer, but the ultrafires I got from him were terrible terrible batteries, and potentially dangerous. I reported him and the battery situ to eBay but they done nothing - too much money being made no doubt.
Purple Helmet yeah true he may be a total fool and not realise but l checked his negative comments on eBay and plenty of battery related issues being raised (so he must know) , don't know how eBay let's the guy sell stuff that can potentially cause house fires etc . crazy man. Peace from UK !
Not all UltraFire batteries are fake. I have a genuine UltraFire 9900mAH battery that needs over 20 hours to charge with a 450mA charger (20x450=9000mAH)
In the 18650 size? It just isn't possible physically buddy, have you measured the output of your charger with a meter? Theres a reason huge companies like Panasonic who lead the technology can only manage to squeeze 3400mAh into that size of casing. Send me one and I'll do a video on it :D
yeah. That's a fake battery. Weigh it on a digital scale, and tell us its mass in grams please. Put it on a constant current load tester and try discharging it at 0.5 Amps from full charge (4.2V) to dead (3.0V). Please report back the actual capacity you measure. It won't actually take the 18 hours to discharge as the capacity claims it would. I got a box for 40 of these things on eBay a few weeks ago. I tested 4 of them before declaring the entire box to be garbage. They weighed 27 grams each, and had between 300 - 450 mAh of capacity from 4.2V to 3.0V. The listing advertised them at 2500 mAh capacity, 35A discharge. Needless to say, I got a refund on these fake cells.
+basshead - you don't get 1amp resistors. Resistors are measured in ohms, and the current expended depends on the voltage from the battery. Since R is fixed, the current will diminish over time as the battery is flattened; you can't actually determine drain time on that basis I'm afraid. 9900mAh isn't possible in an 18650 right now, as I say Panasonic are leading the way with 3400ish mah, if anyone could push more out of their cells it would be big companies like that, with millions of $ of R&D and the resources; not some unknown brand from the backstreets of China lol You don't sell these batteries by any chance lol
+Warren Garabrandt - fairly typical buddy - what brand were they? I have some Chinese "PKCell" to test next, I have no idea how they will be but they wiegh good and interestingly make zero stupid claims. They even say they aren't high drain, so not for vaping etc. Think they claim 2000mah too, so achievable enough, will be interesting
_me and Purple Helmet are in my boat spot light fishing for reds_ me - hey man, turn that torch up so we can catch some fish. PH - I've given her all she's got captain.if i push it any harder it's gonna blow! me - ROFL
your comment has got me thinking...starting a couple of months ago i have noticed that i am getting almost no replies to my comments on youtube..you said that my comment went into spam.i wonder if that is what is happening to all my other comments on other channels...is there anything that i can do to,A-confirm that that is indeed the problem and B- fix it?
This one didn't go into spam :) Mate, UA-cams comment system is broken, obviously they have things in place to catch spam, but it needs work big time. I comment on a lot of channels, especially when my back is wrecked and I'm basically lying flat out unable to do anything, I keep sane by watching and interacting on UA-cam. Well, because of this, I've often got in early enough on a new upload to get top comments, sometimes on some big channels. But then, it magically disappears - not deleted, I've checked - just falls out of top. Pain in the arse, getting some great conversation (which UA-cam says they want to encourage) then boom, for no reason I can tell, its gone. So I wouldn't worry about it too much - one way you can check is sign out of youtube, and go to the video you commented on - if your comment is nowhere to be seen, its probably been picked up as spam, for whatever reason. Sucks balls tbh
You know, I had that for a while - my autism couldn't handle it. Lot of bargains on there obviously, but a lot of plain bullshit, the powerbanks are even worse for stupid claims! I mean, if someone COULD make a 9900mAh 18650, it certainly wouldn't be 2 bucks FFS lol
Yea, I seen a few good deals on there but a lot of the batteries are way over rated for 18650. I seen some coils I wanta try from it and a rda set up, but watching a lot of it cause domes fake. Smok Big Baby Beast cloud coils for $3 is a steal
Thanks for posting this video. There are a lot of videos out there about fake lithium batteries but you explain the issues better than most, by far.
+Spacegoat92 - cheers for dropping a comment - love your username lol
Hahaha. Cheers man!!
I'm wanting to harvest a few of these cells, even apparently dead laptop batteries sometimes have usable cells :D
I need to make pals with someone that works at the tip I think hahaha
Purple Helmet I have a few old laptop battery pack batteries if you are after them
Surprised it took so long tbh, I don't even like my videos myself :D
So, whoever disliked this from Spain, on the 31st Jan, after watching only 2min 46sec... fuck you in the ass hahahahaha
Analytics are great
Purple helmet You do realize there's something really wrong with you? But it's a good warning, although by now people should know better because it's actually old news. Btw, You forgot to mention the fact that big companies who make 18650's have many times big batches of 18650's that don't meet the expectations. They are sold to chinese companies. They rewrap these batteries and sell them under their own "brand". Keep up the good work please.
Hahaha I've known long and weary that there is something wrong with me lol!!
Yes I didn't touch on that, did someone say eFest :D
Hahahaha... savage!
are these the ones in segways? Im getting one Friday and its very worrying that the battery will be under my foot
About time they got talked about mainstream!! The problem is huge, and not going away - if anything getting worse! Good on the BBC!
Quality content mate! Best regards from Poland.
I've had black Ultrafire batteries for years, maybe five years... I always thought they were fake but guess what! They are real! Both still working great! ! yes Exclamation maRKS!
Can you test EBL 14500 2800MAH battery Thank you Ben
Purple Helmet b
b?
Awesome stuff! Are you going to be able to test one of these GTF 12000mAh batteries that are now being sold? They have now broken the 10,000mah limit yet still are probably garbage
+spotify95 - hey buddy - I might do for a laugh... they will be garbage. Panasonic haven't stabilised a 4000mAh cell even yet, so you just know they are going to be BS!
The highest mah in any 18650 battery is 3700, period. As of this date 12/9/17.
spotify95 - don't know if you are still around, or will even get a notification of this comment because UA-cam = broken... but I did test a couple of 12,000mAh in the end up, check my most recent uploaded video... or if you CBA doing that, they were every bit as terrible as I thought lol
I’ve seen some of these batteries say 18000mAH which is obviously not true for R20 about $2 that not true at all
some battery packs sold have fake 18650s sold in scooters in this case samsung 22p cells
+IGSPOWERD - that's shocking - actual fake copy cells! At least the crap cells I've been playing with, haven't been pretending to be a big brand cell! Did you capacity test them?
love your videos and your accent! Very informative thanks!
Thanks very much! Many don't like the accent, but I only do me so, yeah 😂
Thanks for the video, I am shopping for a few batteries right now and your information has likely diverted a bad purchase. LOVE the accent. LOL
Glad to be of assistance... and cheers for the nice comment on the accent 😂😂😂
Nice video. What is the best by chipest 18650 battery?
Hey buddy it's hard to say because generally, every cheap one lies about its specifications.
The only cheaper end on I've found that met its specifications so far is the PKCell, but that was a while back, I have no idea what the current ones are like.
Someone suggested EBL, I got some (haven't made video yet) and they claimed 3000mAh. Struggled to get 2200. But that's not bad if you ignore the lies. However, they came with absolutely no specs for current, and had a lot of the same warning signs as ultrafire etc.
Probably ok for low current devices, but just untrustworthy
Purple Helmet Iv found you can use two CR123A batteries in place of one of these.
@@RekzysTheTitan Not rechargeble and about the price of a decent single genuine 18650, not a good deal IMO.
The trick is to spot fakes on ebay before you buy them! Hard to do.
Great information mate! I heard some found sand in fake batteries to make up for the weight!
Yeah man, I've seen that in other videos and websites - never came across it myself (yet!) - the ones I've got have just been extremely poor quality with nowhere near the amount of chemical material to make a half decent cell in the first instance. Avoid! I'm still seeing folks buying these for vaping!
Its just much safer to never ever buy baterries with the word FIRE on them
Absolutely agree, just not worth the risk!
Great Video lad, very informative. Gained a subscriber!
If it was me, I'd prob keep them for low draw flashlights as a back up, but that's just because I find it hard to throw stuff away 😂😂😂
Thank YOU for taking the time to chat on this old (and pretty terrible lol) video, really appreciate the interaction 💜
I guess it's just because I know if I made the video now, it would be so much better with more info, it's kinda why I done the group test on the supposed 12,000 mAh cells, and included a cheeky ultrafire 😂
But I suppose the important thing is regardless you and others are still finding the video useful, I suppose that's all that matters!
I say you grow out the beard and put purple horns on your helmet and become a Viking, lol. Great Video!
+Deadpool10737 the beard used to be a lot longer and it will be again... Makes me look more like a tramp than a viking though pmsl
are these batteries used in automatic airsoft rifles? I'm not entirely sure.
generally no as they are very bulky - but in theory you could use them yeah.
One last thing why would people fake these. They don't cost that much so why would someone try to fake them?
+BigPinkJohn - my latest video compares some of the common ones going around eBay and their absolute lies and potential danger - avoid!!
A company in the Netherlands called NKON (City of Eindhoven NL) delivers the real goods 18650 for low prices. Don't believe me? Check it out!
if your in the states orbtronics
www.orbtronic.com
no fake BS ever from this seller.
are the panasonic batteries on ebay real?
Why if I touch the wire on ultra fire battery my finger is burn
+Grace Caymo - thanks for dropping by - I'm not sure what could be causing that but it doesn't sound good! First thing I'd do is get rid of the UltraFire though because regardless what is causing your issue, they are terrible and potentially very dangerous 😀
Its 7800 battery
+Grace Caymo - it might say 7800 but it won't be. That's not possible with current tech anyway, but ultrafire are generally terrible - the best ones I have seen tested haven't even got to 2000 and the ones I've tested myself have been even worse. I just tested one in my latest video, it said it was 3000mAh - but was only 350mAh. They are terrible
Very good video sir. Kudos to you.
Thankyou Vic! I take that as a great honour coming from yourself, very much appreciated, and thanks for the comment!
Hello Ramsay , good video . I have been trying to buy a decent battery for months but there all shite . Martin (mini centre )
Cheers Martin, good to hear from you mate! Yeah its ridiculous... this one IS a li Ion, just a ridiculously low quality and low capacity one - apparently some folk have been getting a li Ion can with a smaller battery inside connected up PMSL
You can also buy them from local mobile phone repair shops
LOL!!! That would be superb, put them on eBay, SURELY folks would realise it was a windup?
+prashant utneja - thankyou buddy your comments mean a lot to me 😀
Mine got PCB on them,,,?????
just for laughs I purchase 4 ultrafilre 18650 batteries . I weighed 1 and it was 38 grams . not sure what that means if ts fake or not . I will be testing capacity shortly
Thanks for taking the time to comment buddy, can't believe this terrible video is still getting views hahaha
You do get some with "decent" capacity - I've seen some tested at 2000mAh ish online.
This is a really good video.very helpful and useful
thankyou buddy!
Your from Canada 🇨🇦 I'm thinking about moving there is it a good idea ps.i know the airsoft laws in Canada
No unfortunately not - I'm from Scotland! Would love to move to somewhere on the North American continent - hey we can all dream :)
Purple Helmet ok 🌮
Blaine Live life He sounds nothing like a Canadian. Have you ever heard a Canadian accent?
Purple Helmet naw, I pegged that accent as Scottish quite early, and honestly, I think that short of accent sounds kinda cool IMHO.
Jonathan Herr - I'm really sorry buddy this comment completely slipped past me! try to do my best to reply to all if I can! I think that is the first time I've heard anyone describe my kind of accent as sounding cool lol - but its the only one I have so I'm stuck with it :-)
Thank you a friend bought some of those fake batteries for my new vaporizer it got very hot did not hold charge omg in the rubbish they go cheers.
Thanks for commenting buddy - it isn't your friends fault, they are completely mis sold - its a scam!! Get them to buy some genuine Sony, Samsun, Panasonic, LG etc that are current rated for the job and the difference will be night and day :). Glad to be of help!!
l did the weight comparison so yes fake batteries. l plug in the vaporizer unit to a usb port on my desktop to charge it had it 3 days vapes herb really good it's a new vivant alternate.
buy 100 of them and if they dont have rated capacity just ask for a refound and you can probaly keep them
Hey buddy - that would be awesome, like a huge test with a bigger sample... maybe in the future, great idea!
@@PurpleHelmet People who these day still buying batteries in China deserve everything they get . . . . . . or am i too harsh now? :-)
Any batery can explode! Even the ones in your telefone! Thanks for the video!
You would have no clue if it's even charging
The only thing written on the battery aside from the biggest logo on earth is " Warning, The voltage of full charge and cut-off Charge is 4.2v and 2.75v.
Yeah has less charge but at least I dont have a pipe bomb in hand.
i think your accent made me finish the video but thanks for making it I wanted to make sure I got the right one
Fair play for making video like this
+Burntwolf Airsoft - I just cringe at it now lol - but, at the time with what I had and zero comfort on front of a camera...
Thank you for this informations ! GREAT !!!
I needed some of these batteries for my new tac light, saw all be people talking about issues, so I said fuck it and took two CR123A batteries and put them in where you’re supposed to use one of these.
That will work - but you are almost doubling the voltage to the flashlight module running 2 in series - so it might cause it to fail prematurely.
Purple Helmet it lasted almost a year and a half, and in the end it was the pressure pad that failed. Still have the standard button part.
They vent and they are so much for mah and we only buy them from reputable companies. They are 40mah max
Thanks very much, you saved me a lot of money.
+Leandro Gonzalez - absolutely no problem, glad to help - and thankyou for taking the time to watch and leave a comment :-)
They are used in Nissan electric cars.
Yeah Tesla too, 1000s of them in each vehicle. Although I heard they are switching to 20700cells instead of 18650, not sure how accurate that is! Thanks for commenting buddy :)
good video mate
Thanks, can't believe people are still watching it - but mind you, these fake and terrible quality cells sold on pure lies are still out there unfortunately!
Cheers for taking the time to comment buddy!
Dude i got screwed by that exact same Ebay seller " 3liquid" , hes a total scam artist .
+Jonny Parker aye so he knows fine he is selling shite then!
Purple Helmet aye brother , shocking
@@PurpleHelmet - old thread but he's still selling them now.... nothing changes.
have one "Uitra Flrc" rated at 4000. Probably gonna run it over with a car, or charge, then short it and throw somewhere for fun...
You've got to video this process for us to enjoy bud lol!

I have discharged my battery with a 1amp resistor and it took about 9 hours to drop 2.8v
+basshead - you don't get 1amp resistors. Resistors are measured in ohms, and the current expended depends on the voltage from the battery. Since R is fixed, the current will diminish over time as the battery is flattened; you can't actually determine drain time on that basis I'm afraid.
9900mAh isn't possible in an 18650 right now, as I say Panasonic are leading the way with 3400ish mah, if anyone could push more out of their cells it would be big companies like that, with millions of $ of R&D and the resources; not some unknown brand from the backstreets of China lol
You don't sell these batteries by any chance lol
+Warren Garabrandt - fairly typical buddy - what brand were they? I have some Chinese "PKCell" to test next, I have no idea how they will be but they wiegh good and interestingly make zero stupid claims. They even say they aren't high drain, so not for vaping etc. Think they claim 2000mah too, so achievable enough, will be interesting

hahaha I only just saw this, superb comment lol - for some reason it went into spam.
I need to use Scottys line in a video, that needs to happen lol
your comment has got me thinking...starting a couple of months ago i have noticed that i am getting almost no replies to my comments on youtube..you said that my comment went into spam.i wonder if that is what is happening to all my other comments on other channels...is there anything that i can do to,A-confirm that that is indeed the problem and B- fix it?
This one didn't go into spam :)
Mate, UA-cams comment system is broken, obviously they have things in place to catch spam, but it needs work big time.
Get the Wish phone app, get a good laugh at 9900 mah batteries for $2
You know, I had that for a while - my autism couldn't handle it.
