Crossover is for lovers of other music who need something uniquely pop to appeal to their tastes since they love another genre of music. So for my ear an artist's catalog matters, not their appeal to a nondancehall audience. Which is why I compared Aidonia and Cobra. Both kick down every riddim both are internationally known and perform outside of regular dancehall markets and both stay relevant in the dancehall. Both artists are easy fwds in a dance. Shaggy tunes don't have impact in dancehall like they do on kiss fm or iHeart. Nobody screws their face and beats the wall for a Shaggy. Big artist and world class talent yes of course but dancehall is a different genre. Not everyone can be Shabba Ranks these guys are uniquely special & should get their flowers now but that takes nothing away for year to year artists with hits and catalog that keep & kept dancehall hot thru out their careers.
